Cute, Cozy Private Beach House Directly on the Gulf

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

'Tween Waters Cottage' sits directly on the sugar sand between the Gulf of Mexico and the Intracoastal Waterway -- giving guests the opportunity to enjoy both beach and boating activities. This single-family, two-story Gulf-front home has all the charm of 'Old Florida' and all the comforts of the 21st century, including wi-fi, 2 flat-panel high-definition cable TV's, and unlimited free phone service to the USA and Canada.

With 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the house makes a lovely vacation, honeymoon, or winter retirement home for a couple with occasional guests... or for families and groups of up to 8 (9 with a high-rise aerobed).

You'll love the comfy furnishings and the thoughtful amenities, including a large gas barbecue grill, the Gulf-front picnic shelter for lunches on the beach, padded sun-loungers and Adirondack chairs (so you don't miss a leisurely sunset), a porch or deck off each of the 3 upstairs bedrooms, and the private dock across the street. It's easy to drop a fishing line -- or rent a boat or bicycle from the shop just down the street.

The first-floor den/4th bedroom has a queen bed (NOT a sofa bed) and an adjoining bathroom... ideal for folks who don't do stairs. The king bed in the Master Bedroom features a 2.5 inch memory-foam mattress topper -- it's like sleeping on a cloud!

'Tween Waters Cottage' is professionally cleaned before you arrive and is provided to you fully furnished, including beach towels, sand toys, bath and kitchen supplies, and paper products. Shopping, restaurants, and all the attractions of the Tampa Bay area are close by, but once the soothing sight of the Gulf and the relaxing sound of the surf work their magic, you will find it difficult to leave. This quiet residential neighborhood has no high-rise condos within a thousand feet. The beach feels like your own private piece of paradise.

Enjoy the water view from every room, a gorgeous sunrise every morning, and a brilliant sunset every night. You, your family and friends will make memories for a lifetime -- at 'Tween Waters Cottage.'

About Dan Callahan

We both cherish our childhood memories of vacations at the shore. For Barbara, it was picnics on the sand and swimming in the Atlantic. For Dan, it was fun times with the family water-skiing and boating on the Delaware River. So, when the rare opportunity came to purchase our own beachfront vacation home on the gentle Gulf of Mexico with a dock for boating and fishing, we couldn't pass it up. Now we share our precious find with other families looking to relax and re-connect by the sea.

Dan Callahan purchased this house in 1990

Why Dan Callahan chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

'Tween Waters Cottage' is only 30 minutes away from our main family home in St. Petersburg. This ensures we are nearby to respond quickly if our guests need us -- and makes it easy for us to use the Cottage frequently ourselves.

What makes this house unique

'Tween Waters Cottage' has a very peaceful, private atmosphere. No canyons of condos. No shared walls with strangers. The house is a rarity in our part of Florida -- a direct beachfront single-family home nestled between two other single-family homes. There are plenty of restaurants and activities nearby... but coming home to the Cottage makes you feel like you are entering another world... and leaving your cares behind.

Great time we had at this house! 8 friends stayed here together. The view is amazing and the house has all the comforts of home. The owner is very nice on the phone.

Perfectly wonderful family spot!

  • 5 of 5

This was a fabulous house for our family of 8. Our kids range in age from 8-18 and EVERYONE enjoyed the space, location, amenities and sleeping accommodations. Of all the houses we have rented throughout the years of vacation, this is tops on our list. The supplies of linens, basic food kitchen needs (including salt/ pepper, paper towels, dish detergent, etc) that were provided were an ecxellent addition to our stay and decreased stress on the parents- which made this my most relaxing vacation ever. I really can't say enough about this place.

If you are looking for fancy and modern, you may want to pick a different spot. If you are looking for comfortable, cozy, quaint and " not perfect" but liveable... Then this is your spot. Steps from canal side (for sunrise) and gulf side (dolphin sightings often)- we will plan to be back!

Awesome location, cute cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a weekend here and it was lovely. So convenient to be steps from the beautiful white sand beach. The owner Dan was very helpful by staying in touch and making sure everything was good with the house before our arrival, as we arrived the day after a hurricane! Great place to stay with friends and hope to return with family in the future.

This place is PARADISE on the gulf!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about T'ween Waters! I'd like to keep it a secret, but the owner is such a nice guy that I felt compelled to write a review. What do they say about real estate, - "LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION?" Well, this place has it! Step out the door onto the private, shaded area of beach for the best sunsets in the world, or cross the street to your own dock on the intercoastal waterway. That area of Indian Shores/Indian Rocks has lots to do and great restaurants and shops to explore.

But all you need is at T'ween Waters. The cottage has a retro "Old Florida" charm but an updated, well appointed kitchen and very comfortable leather furniture and HD TV in the living room. There is one bedroom and full bath on the first floor and another bath and three more bedrooms upstairs, which makes it ideal for extended family. Every room has a water view and you can sleep to the sound of the surf! The beds were so comfortable that I asked the owner, Dan, what kind of mattresses they had so I can get one for home!

What a wonderful vacation we had at this charming place. Highly recommended. Thanks, Dan. We WILL be back!

Dan Callahan is the man! Thank you!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Tween Waters Cottage. It was our first time to stay in this area and we had a blast! The house was comfortable but the real prize was this beautifully shaded lot on the Gulf. It was fab-u-lous!!! Great location too.

Dan Callahan communicated well and took good care of us. We had memorable moments with precious friends at this house and we want to make it an annual trip.

Location A+. House, disgusting!! Pulled into driveway and took a walk about...junk, paint cans, old sails, on side of house #snakebait. Walked inside and the smell of must and mold was overwhelming. House was wet and damp, books on second floor shelf covered in white mold. Perhaps water is getting in from the inches of water pouring through the gutter since the downspout is missing?? Bathroom fixtures in downstairs bathroom are mildewed and rusted...just gross. Not AC...just window air in bathrooms. Here's the best. The dryer is sitting on top of the washer and the back control was removed and taped, yes taped to the front to look like a front loader. The paddle boat is broken and doesn't work which doesn't matter because the 'Dock' on the Intercoastal side is so rotten birds won't even sit on it. Whoever took and posted the pics advertising this shithole gets an A in Photoshop. I have pics of all of the above mentioned...dryer, moldy books, gutter, trash, rotted dock to back up this review. I WOULD RATHER HAVE SLEPT IN A TENT. Oh that reminds me, the ' shelter house' over the picnic table, falling apart and has about rusted nails sticking out on the underside, hundreds of them. This owner should be ashamed to let anyone stay in this moldy wet house. Health hazard. I'll bet the Pinellas Health Department would have a heyday inspecting this property.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to learn that these guests were disappointed in their accommodations. As you can see from the other reviews on this site, many of them recent, this is not the typical response to the cottage. But we must admit that their complaints were not entirely unfounded. We try to keep up with maintenance at the cottage, but every once in a while something falls through the cracks. This is especially true at the end of the busy summer season. With only a few hours between guests to clean and inspect the property, things can get missed. In this instance, a few failures on our part ruined the experience for a set of guests, and for that we are sorry. There was a large leak under the kitchen sink. This lead to standing water and the mildew smell the guests complained of. Unfortunately, the guests did not inform us of the issue during their stay and it is difficult to fix a problem until it has been brought to your attention. As it happens, the issue took less than 30 minutes to fix, once we were made aware of it. We also removed the books that the guests complained of and the dock was re-decked. We appreciate all guest comments and encourage our guests to let us know immediately if there is a problem. The sooner we know, the sooner we can act, and we continue make improvements every year. Our goal is for every guest to have a wonderful beach vacation at Tween Waters Cottage.
