Dianne Gimbel purchased this apartment in 1976
The Gimbel Block, formerly the Patton Block, has been in our family since the 1970's. We have two retail stores and a Chamber of Commerce information center in the street level. Boothbay Harbor has been a summer home to our families for generations and has been our permanent home since 1980.
The location is convenient to all the village activities.
Excellent location, good views, very cozy and comfortable. Diane and team were very friendly and laid back, making our stay easy and enjoyable. We look forward to a return visit in the future.
We had a great stay in BBH. We were comfortable in the apartment and it was plenty of room for the two of us. It might be crowded for more than two people. We loved being within walking distance of town! There are three short flights of stairs to the apartment. May not be ideal for those with mobility issues.
My wife and I spent 3 days in this lovely 2nd floor apartment and had a great time. The place had a beach/summer home feel with amazing views of the downtown and harbor. Dianne was more than helpful in recommending activities, places to shop and the top restaurants to eat at. I was able to text her throughout the week if I had any follow up questions and she would respond right away. Boothbay has so much to offer and is a great central location in Maine. You are a couple hours southwest from Acadia National Park and about 1 hour northeast from the city life in Portland. While you are in Boothbay, definitely do the whale watching tour. They have plenty of water activities and other tours also. If you are looking for a place to swim, check out Barrett's Park which is 7 minutes away. Bet's has the best fish and chips I've ever had while Ports of Italy may be the best Italian I've had as well. Both musts in Boothbay.
Again, the apartment is great and Dianne is wonderful and extremely helpful throughout your stay.
The apt. is well equipped, very clean and located right in the heart of town. You can walk to almost everything: shops, restaurants, sailing, concerts and other activities. The grocery store is a bit of a hike so a car is best for that. The parking for the apt is a small walk but the area is so beautiful that's not a big deal. I will be back next year. Thank you Dianne and Mark for being very helpful hosts. My visit was fantastic!
My wife and I came up to Boothbay for a wedding and reception right across the street at Fisherman's Wharf. While the hotel is nice the rooms are a bit small and we wanted the space to have people over during the week's festivities. The location is perfect with a view of the harbor, the interior has been updated and has a nice beach cottage feel. Perfect location for a couple to getaway.
I came to Boothbay Harbor for a wedding at Spruce Point Inn that had festivities in town... so I decided to get a place in town. This was a sure winner. The building is old New England, but the interior refurb made this nicer than the cottages Spruce Point offers. Floors don't creak, shower has great pressure, fixtures are modern. Hosts are pleasant and helpful (and have an awesome '56 t-bird convertible that you'll spot around town.). Definitely a great spot. Do consider carefully if stairs are an issue... this is up two tight flights. No elevators here, so if your knees don't like climbing up and down, this might not be the spot for you.
For over a century the Boothbay Harbor region has been a favorite destination of travelers longing to relax and enjoy the 'rock bound coast of Maine' from land and sea. With its 'snug as a booth' harbor, long peninsula, and numerous islands, the region is renowned for its natural beauty and boating pleasures. A bustling place, Boothbay Harbor retains all the charm and rich heritage of a maritime New England village – white clapboard homes, numerous specialty shops, galleries, boat yards and marinas dot the Harbor's rocky shoreline.
Boothbay Harbor boasts the largest fleet of excursion boats on the coast for viewing lighthouses, seals, islands, whales, puffins, and the spectacular foliage in fall. Deep-sea fishing cruises for cod, mackerel, tuna, haddock, and striped bass leave daily for full and half-day trips. Boothbay Harbor's fine marinas and fishing facilities are well known to yachtsmen cruising the Maine coast. Seafood is the dining specialty – clams, scallops, shrimp and the king of them all LOBSTER. It is also the home of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens a must-do when visiting the harbor.
