As was the trend in the late 1800's, wealthy families would summer on Grand Island, located between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY. There were resorts and clubs to cater to these families. There were also a number of private homes built. Our Home on Riversedge was one of them.

About Anne and Bob Fahning

We have always had an interest in history and older homes. When this house became available we were able to see past the years of neglect . It is an amazing home with 3 floors and is situated on 190 feet of waterfront at the waters edge. It is truly a unique family spot. So much to see and do for every member of the family. 2013 is our first year, and so far all of our guests have been extremely complimentary about their stay at our Home on River's Edge. We look forward to making yourstay the most memorable yet!.

Wonderful accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this lovely home when my daughter got married. Couldn't have worked out better. It's a lovely, spacious home. We made use of the whole house (and hot tub) and had a lovely dinner on the back deck. I would recommend this home to anyone!

Perfect Venue

  • 5 of 5

My daughter was celebrating her wedding in the Buffalo Area and since we are out of town we decided to rent a home. Great Choice. The house was the perfect venue for a Wedding base of operations. The house is easy to get to and conveniently close to the GI Bridge. The home is beautifully decorated (nicer than my own) with some rooms being early 20th century and others more modern. There are 4 bedroom upstairs and one parlor that serves as a bedroom. With 2 full baths and the aforementioned bedrooms you can easily sleep 10. There is a large dining room and a large back porch. The Kitchen is large and is well stocked. It seems previous guests left quite a few staples so it kept me from having to run right out to the store (be sure to pay it forward). There is a hot tub which we made use of, and a large lawn/dock area across the street (it is beautiful but time did not allow us to use). There is a large number of bikes and games in the basement, good wifi. There were many TV's and cable but we did not use.We made great use of the house for wedding pictures. Parking is ample, we easily parked 3-4 cars.We are very grateful to Anne and Bob for the use of their home. They were gracious hosts and available when needed.

A few minor items - the stove is small, I was able to use for a breakfast, but for dinner plan to use the gas grill provided; There are 10+ foot ceilings - that means there are a lot of stairs between floors (10-12), it was not a problem for us but if you had elderly or disabled it could be an issue; the road in front is relatively busy - children will need supervision.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely review. We are so glad that the house was such a good fit for your family! I want to point out that the first floor bedroom and bath has been useful for folks with mobility issues. Also I'm sorry if I did not point out that there is a full size range and oven in the game room downstairs for those large family dinners. We hope to see you back again!

Lovely Family Time in a Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

We had many relatives coming from out of state to our son's wedding in Buffalo. This house was a beautiful and spacious setting for family members to stay and to visit with each other. Everything is very nicely decorated and all the kitchen utensils that we needed, were supplied, as well as towels, blankets, etc. The children's toys and games available, came in handy for the younger ones. We stayed 3 nights and filled up the house with 12 people! We would highly recommend it to anyone.

Amazing Gem Of A House!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start!? We rented the house for a girls getaway. The house was impeccably clean. We really appreciated the attention that goes into cleaning the house. We also noticed and appreciated the detail and thought that went into the house. From the towels (thick) to the curtains (choice of semi sheer or darkening). From the sheets (so comfy) to the hair conditioner (we must know what it is). There is nothing about this house that was just thrown together. Anne really thought everything out in order to provide the best experience. We loved moving from the modern living room to the historic parlor. Each room gave us a different experience that we loved. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs and watching the river. We also enjoyed the large hot tub nestled in the shelter of the gazebo outside. It was just a fantastic experience for us. You won't be disappointed with the house or Anne's hospitality. Can't wait to come back.

Group Gathering for Scottish Highland Games

  • 5 of 5

Our international Scottish Games event was held in Amherst, NY and this home provided the ideal location for our group to stay. There ended up being 12 adults (half of them larger athletes) in the house and there was plenty of room for all to spread out. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch watching the river traffic and having breakfast and cocktails on the deck in back. The hot tub came in very handy for the sore muscles after our athletic events.

Every room was tastefully decorated and meticulously clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and the towels and linens were great quality. Even with 12 adults taking showers, we didn't run out of hot water! The antique stove presented a bit of a challenge, but we had it mastered by the end of our stay. If our travels take us back to Grand Island we would definitely stay there again. Thanks for a great weekend.

UB Graduation Destination

  • 5 of 5

My family was looking for a place where everyone who was traveling to Buffalo could meet to celebrate our son's graduation. Anne and Bob's house was perfect for this plan! While the weather did not cooperate (20 mile/hour wind gusts and temps in 40s during May), we still enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. Anne's attention to detail allows you to feel like you are experiencing life as it was more than 100 years ago while enjoying the comforts of the 21st century. The house was vey clean and beautifully appointed. Linens and sheets worth mentioning as they were plush and soft. The house has a lot of nooks and crannies. Everyone could be together in the family room or spread out into the parlor, formal dining room, outdoor deck or basement (kids). Only wish we could have taken advantage of everything the house has to offer with good weather but we still made wonderful memories in this house. Anne's recommendation to order dinner from Riverside Grill was an excellent choice. Also want to mention Kevin's Catering - Kevin delivers to Grand Island and his food was delicious! All around great weekend, thanks to Anne and Bob.
