Bay side home sleeps 10. Large yard. Zip to ponds, beaches w/no Rte 6 traffic!
The perfect bay side getaway! This spacious, open and sunny 4BR/2BA home is tucked on a private lane with 1/2 acre of land, yet is just steps from the bike path (Cape Cod Rail Trail). Minutes to swimming or shops--all without ever getting on Rte 6! Walk or bike to Herring Pond for a freshwater swim; famous First Encounter Beach on the bay is only 1.5 miles with breathtaking sunsets. For surf and seals, two acclaimed National Seashore beaches are an easy 5 minute drive. Enjoy the warm outdoor shower when you return. Shopping and restaurants are only 5 minutes away in Orleans. Nickerson State Park is also nearby.
The house sleeps 10 in comfort: two bedrooms downstairs (queen; 2 twins), and two bedrooms upstairs (queen; 2 twins plus a bunk bed). The layout is perfect for an extended family or two families. The large backyard is great for wiffle ball or soccer games, or just relax in the hammock between the pines. Enjoy outdoor family meals on the back deck or picnic table, or in the dining room with cathedral ceiling, french doors, and skylight. The open living room is stocked with books, family games, and movies. Kids/teens even have their own space for evening games and movies in the large basement playroom equipped with TV and DVD player, a foosball/air hockey/pool table, CD player and dartboard.
We had a wonderful time. The location is ideal: on a little traveled gravel lane very close to the bicycle trail - we regularly biked to Coast Guard Beach on the Ocean. We also biked or walked less than a mile to a private town beach to swim in the clear fresh water of Herring Pond, Also First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod Bay is less than two miles and offers great walking at low tide and swimming in warm water at high tide. The house is very clean and comfortable and sleeps 10 (great spacious kid's room with bunks for 4), has a fully equipped kitchen. TV, internet stereo, games in the basement for kids and a nice grassy back yard for playing. Next year we will take our Grand Kids. Early Sept. is a wonderful time to be at the Cape-little traffic, easy access to popular nearby restaurants, and the first week-end after Labor Day is Windmill Week-end in Eastham: Arts and crafts, a sand castle contest, a big parade and concerts, rides and food on the Common. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and the house is nicely furnished with very comfy beds and outside deck is well equipped for cook-outs. Must the outside enclosed shower got a lot of use. Owners are welcoming and helpful. Loved it!!
We had a great stay at this rental house! The house was clean when we arrived for check in, and had plenty of room for all of us. The kids loved playing in the back yard in the evenings. We had a short drive to the National Seashore beaches every day of our stay, and love staying in Eastham for that reason. We are already talking about renting the house again for next summer.
We arrived early, owner had no problem letting us in. Nice house, plenty of room for our clan of ten. Basement has a smell of mold, expected for the beach air. Everything was as expected. Could use more dishes as we had to constantly wash them to reuse. We ended up with paper plates!! Although the beaches were farther away than we expected, we were centrally located. The bike trail was great.
We had a family of 5 and stayed for a week. It was a great home and centrally located to everything. The bike trail is right there and it is easy to get to all the beaches and activities you want.
House was layed out well. We had 2 families a totalof 10 guests and it was comfortable for all. Great location for bike trail.
Loved the decorative and thoughtful touches and location of this large Eastham home! Immaculate and spacious for 10 people-teens had their privacy in basement play area. Biked and enjoyed swimming in ponds, bay and beach-all nearby. Made good use of games and DVD's provided by owners. Many memorable family games of Whiffle Ball in spacious back yard! Even took in a free outdoor concert on Eastham Green (Monday nights) and Orleans Firebird ball-game nearby. Loved nearby Land Ho restaurant! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends and relatives.
PS Additional thanks for adding AC units during our stay-We appreciate your thoughtfulness!
The New York Times has called Eastham 'Cape Cod’s Little Secret.' Located on the outer Cape, Eastham offers visitors a quieter and less crowded environment than some of the more well-known areas of the Cape. Settled in 1644 by some Pilgrims from Plymouth, Eastham is bounded by Cape Cod Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
Eastham is the gateway to the Cape Cod National Seashore, which was created in the 1960s to protect the sheltering dunes and beautiful coastline. Eastham has two ocean beaches, Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach, which mark the beginning of a 30-mile beach stretching to Provincetown.
The Salt Pond Visitor Center is the primary information center for visitors to the Cape Cod National Seashore and the starting point for many nature trails and bicycle routes. The Cape Cod Rail Trail runs the length of town, passing by salt marshes, cranberry bogs, and ponds, and ends at the Visitor Center.
At Fort Hill, the Cape Cod National Seashore offers guide-yourself books for a 1.5 mile walking tour of the early settlement of Eastham. From here, there are spectacular views of Nauset Marsh and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
The red and white Nauset Lighthouse is said to be the most photographed site on Cape Cod. In 1996, the lighthouse was moved to a safe perch further from the eroding cliffs.
