About Renee Baker

I am an empty nester who enjoys the Brevard area with my husband who teaches at the local college. My favorites are waterfall exploring, hiking, horseback riding, camping, art, and interior design.

Renee Baker purchased this barn in 2012

Why Renee Baker chose North Carolina

We love the pastoral setting, but really fell in love with the unique barn-wood interior of this home. Interior design is one of my passions, so furnishing the home was super fun. They don't build them like this anymore. Living on the farm, we love the area and are happy to share it with our guests.

What makes this barn unique

A unique farm setting with friendly animals, fresh farm eggs, and all the amenities you may need! There are many resources for hiking, climbing, fishing, as well as shopping and dining in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fodderstock Farm is a true gem! There is so much warmth and hospitality coming to this beautiful place. Our family had a marvelous time relaxing throughout the week, playing in the back pasture, and seeing the local sites. The location affords all the nature wonderlust you could ask for in Appalachia. We hope to return for another great stay!

We had such a wonderful time during our stay. The property is beautiful and peaceful. Renee was very gracious in answering questions and showing our children around the farm. We will definitely return!

Shabby chic meets rustic barn

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the home and the farm animals. Our kids loved looking for eggs every morning and feeding the animals.

The home was rustic but the amenities were not. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need.

Beautiful cabin on lovely farm

  • 5 of 5

We had such a fantastic stay with our 3 young children. They adored the farm animals and putting the ducks to sleep every night. We thoroughly enjoyed sunsets at the fire pit and roasting marshmellows. The cabin itself is absolutely amazing- it is so cozy and beautiful- Renee and Drew did a fantastic job decorating it. We also loved collecting the chicken eggs - they tasted delicious! We highly recommend this home!

A truly wonderful and unique Easter for our family!

  • 5 of 5

As a travel agent for over 25 years, I am lucky to have been to the most amazing places. Our family Easter at Fodderstack Farms is now among my Top 5 places ever. Why? The Barnhouse lodging is so charming and comfortable, with everything you need for a family retreat. The views of the pastures, the sheep, donkeys, horses, chickens and the most hysterical ducks I've ever seen, are always interesting. The children gathered beautifully hued eggs each day which we enjoyed for breakfast. Renee and Drew are the most charming and engaging hosts you could wish for. They taught us all so much about the different animals and encouraged the children to help with feeding, grooming, and caring for the animals. My favorite sight was seeing, at twilight, a straight line going through the pasture of three funny long necked black ducks, three little ducks and three duck herders, which included Drew and our granddaughters, heading to put the ducks to bed. The children learned to be respectful of the animals and to get to know them as they shared the farm for these special days.

And if those weren't reason enough, there are SO many fun activities in the area, just a short drive away. The Elijah Mountain Gem Mining, hiking in Dupont National Forest to the stunning Triple Falls for a picnic, a delicious lunch at the Pisgah Inn perched on the top of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Tree Tops Adventure Park in Asheville with its super-fun obstacle courses, filled our days with adventure.

We all can't wait to return! Thank you so very much, Renee and Drew, for the most wonderful family getaway. We are all so much better for it!

Simply lovely

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lovely Fodderstack Farm! We were looking for a unique place to stay and decompress, and this experience at the farm was just what the "doctor" ordered. When we pulled into the property, we were greeted by the most friendly horse and donkeys. The farm fresh eggs were a special treat in the mornings. The property is close to so many lovely activities ... We zip lined with Navitat, hiked to waterfalls at the DuPont forest, and biked through Brevard. Our most relaxing times were spent watching the farm animals and cooking out dinner at the firepit of the farm. Drew and Renee are the delightful and helpful owners of this special property and we thank them for welcoming our family at their farm. We hope to return and make more special memories in the future.

Pisgah Forest National Forest: The Davidson River trail head is perhaps the most popular area for mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, fly fishers, and waterfall photographers. Pisgah's greatest back country and wilderness areas can be accessed from the area as well.

Dupont State Forest: Almost 100 miles of recreational trails traveling to several unique waterfalls, pristine lakes, and other attractions. Some trails pass over large expanses of solid rock on large granite domes. Nearly all trails are multi-use (biking, hiking, and equestrian) and they are well signed and well marked.
