About Renee Baker

I am an empty nester who enjoys the Brevard area with my husband who teaches at the local college. My favorites are waterfall exploring, hiking, horseback riding, camping, art, and interior design.

Renee Baker purchased this barn in 2012

Why Renee Baker chose North Carolina

We love the pastoral setting, but really fell in love with the unique barn-wood interior of this home. Interior design is one of my passions, so furnishing the home was super fun. They don't build them like this anymore. Living on the farm, we love the area and are happy to share it with our guests.

What makes this barn unique

A unique farm setting with friendly animals, fresh farm eggs, and all the amenities you may need! There are many resources for hiking, climbing, fishing, as well as shopping and dining in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fodderstock Farm is a true gem! There is so much warmth and hospitality coming to this beautiful place. Our family had a marvelous time relaxing throughout the week, playing in the back pasture, and seeing the local sites. The location affords all the nature wonderlust you could ask for in Appalachia. We hope to return for another great stay!

Would Change Nothing!

  • 5 of 5

This is an awesome place! We were there for 2 weeks (kids in over-night camp for 10 nights), & each day was wonderful! The children were in Heaven with the animals & the owners, Renée & Drew was wonderful. On the first morning the children learned to gather eggs from the chicken coop, to pet the donkeys & horses & run around the property like wild animals. We did not have to worry about them. We could relax or play with them as we chose. The house itself is beautifully arranged & equiped with everything we needed. Stores are nearby, but we had no sense of traffic or the outside world. What you see in the pictures is what you get...BEAUTIFUL, COMFORTABLE, FUN! Thank you Drew & Renée!

Wonderful visit relaxing. Can't wait to go back

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time at Fodderstack farms We traveled from Nebraska after my wife seeing the barn on VRBO and she knew we had to visit. . We loved the barn and farm. It has the comfort of a 5* hotel with the relaxing feeling of being home. We loved the animals especially the time spent being entertained by the chickens. Renee was very helpful and a pleasure to visit with.

The location was great close to hiking, shopping, great food and the Biltmore estates.

It was one of most relaxing and peaceful vacations we have ever had and it started with the comfort of the Barn.

We would definitely recommend staying at the Fodderstack Barn and can't wait for a return visit.

The communication with Renee was great from the time we booked the visit till the time we left for home.

We rate this as a must stay and we will return.

Thank You

The Smiths

Fodderstack Farm

  • 5 of 5

I had wanted to visit Asheville for several years and decided to go this year. I went with my daughter, son-in-law and son. When I go on vacation I enjoy staying in nice homes. Fodderstack Farms exceeded all of our expectations! We loved the farm and the house so much we had a difficult time leaving to hike ,tour the Biltmore and visit Asheville as we had planned. We enjoyed sitting outside on the front porch in the rocking chairs or sitting in the back yard with the beautiful view and the cute chickens and other animals. It was very relaxing trip and Fodderstack Farms is a lovely place to stay . It's very close to Pisgah Mountain and not much further to Asheville , so it's central to two places we enjoyed visiting. It was a great family time and we did not want to leave.

Awesome farm stay and gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5

Our family (my wife, three young children ages 7, 5, and 2, two grandparents and myself) stayed here for a week. The location is perfect, just outside Asheville and easy access to the parks and lots of nature adventures. The farm is picture perfect, complete with animals, free range eggs you can gather every morning, lovely pastures and mountain views. The barn is extremely comfortable and has everything you need and well designed and decorated. And of course Renee is a wonderful host, providing just the right amount of information and guidance when requested yet allowing space to feel like you have the whole farm to yourself. Highly recommend this place for a wonderful farm stay in the hills of Western NC. Thanks Renee!

A High Level of Cozy with Cute Creatures!

Renee and her husband have done all the hard work to make your stay on the Farm fabulous. The combination of such upscale comforts to make it cozy and such cute creatures to make it fun is unique. I'm impressed by the overall level of quality the property has and all the thoughtful attention to details. Bravo!

The Pisgah National Forest as well as the DuPont State Forest are both just minutes away.

In the heart of cycling, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking country, (not to mention amazing fly fishing, numerous waterfalls, world-class bluegrass music and Appalacian art and crafts) we are conveniently close to:

* DuPont State Forest - 10 minutes (filming location of The Hunger Games movie)

Pisgah Forest National Forest: The Davidson River trail head is perhaps the most popular area for mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, fly fishers, and waterfall photographers. Pisgah's greatest back country and wilderness areas can be accessed from the area as well.

Dupont State Forest: Almost 100 miles of recreational trails traveling to several unique waterfalls, pristine lakes, and other attractions. Some trails pass over large expanses of solid rock on large granite domes. Nearly all trails are multi-use (biking, hiking, and equestrian) and they are well signed and well marked.
