|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
Come fall in love with what we have loved for four generations: incredible sunsets, a sandy beach, clear waters, a big deck, and lots of memories…
- Private sandy beach on Lake Michigan’s Trails End Bay
(Because the waters are protected by the bay they are calmer, shallower, and therefore typically warmer than the rest of the great lake, making it perfect for family swimming.)
- 3 miles from downtown Mackinaw City and the Mackinaw Island Ferries
- 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 downstairs, wheelchair accessible (including handicap shower)
- 1 king-sized bed, 1 queen, 5 singles
- completely furnished kitchen
- DIRECTV & DVD player
- washer and dryer
- propane grill
- boardwalk enclosed fire pit
- kayaks and bikes available upon request
- towels and linens provided
This was the perfect location for our family vacation. The house is spacious, very clean and well maintained, and has breathtaking views of the sunset over Lake Michigan. The beach is beautiful and peaceful - great for kids, big and small. It only took a few minutes to go into Mackinaw City where we could shop, eat, and explore the attractions, like the lighthouse and Fort Michilimackinac, and take the ferry to Mackinac Island. The owners were very thoughtful and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great stay. Smitty's Heaven is definitely a little piece of heaven!
Fun location. Very clean and comfortable home/cottage. We loved the private beach, beautiful Lake Michigan and fire pit. We would love to return next year.
Upon arrival, property was clean and in advertised condition. The house was fully equipped for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Mackinaw City is less than 10 minutes away for dining and shopping.
Everything was just as the listing said. A good surprise was the large icemaker in the front foyer--if that is in the description, I had overlooked it. I had wondered what the distance is from the house to the water, but it's quite close--the picture which looks up to the house from the sand was taken from the water's edge.
Everything was clean and well maintained. It was very homey--we felt we could relax. There was plenty of room for our family of seven, with some beds unused.
The management provided excellent service--answered my questions in a timely manager and even called during the week to let us know there was a good chance we'd be able to see the Northern lights that night. (Alas, we didn't, but we sure appreciated knowing enough to try!)
We enjoyed the beach, the two kayaks, the TV and DVD player, board games in the house, the grill, the washer and dryer, the fire pit, the picnic table on the beach, and the deck chairs. We didn't use the two bicycles or the swim raft.
The house is only a few minutes from Mackinaw City, where we had a good meal at the Dixie Tavern and especially liked Pancake Chef (went back more than once)--family-friendly, with a great buffet and good breakfast pastie.
We spent a day on Mackinac Island and enjoyed the outdoor Pink Pony Patio at the Chippewa Hotel, with a view of the waterfront.
Our granddaughter enjoyed the Mystery Spot, and we also drove up to Pictured Rocks--were too late for the boat trip, but the visitor center gave us a map to scenic overlooks, which saved the day.
The girls in the family had our nails done at Le Nails and Spa in Cheboygan, about half an hour's drive.
There are many other attractions in the Mackinaw City area, but we enjoyed a lot of time just hanging out at the cottage.
In addition, we had a family photo shoot on the beach at the cottage--Lorie Axtell of Crowtree Photography did an excellent job at a very reasonable price.
We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with a family vacation, and we had a great time. I would definitely recommend this property to others.
This property was easy to find, convenient to Mackinaw, secluded, and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed (we cooked several meals), such as crockpot, skewers, outdoor grill, and a great ice machine. The kayak, life jackets for adults and kids, sand toys, firewood, and beach chairs were perfectly useful. The owners communicated well and quickly. On top of all this, the beds and couches were very comfortable. 5 Stars easily.
The online description is accurate. The property is clean and well maintained. The whole family enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake from the deck. The very clean and comfortable beds are comparable to a 4 star hotel. The fully equipped kitchen was very useful. We played many games on the spacious dining table.
We would love to return and appreciate the no smoking and no pets restrictions; no one in our family had problems with their allergies while on vacation. All in all, we had a great family vacation and look forward to returning.
Enjoy all that Northern Michigan and the Mackinaw/St. Ignace area has to offer or retreat back to your own private haven set along the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. With this area being a popular attraction rich with history there is a lot to entertain the family including; various restaurants, shopping, Mackinaw Island, Fort Mackinac, Mackinac State Historic Parks, the Headlands and Wilderness State Park (hiking), Historic Mill Creek, Jack Pine Lumberjack Shows, Thunder Falls Water Park, golfing, miniature golfing, parasailing, nightly laser light shows, movie theater, casino and much more. But that is just in the immediate area! Whitefish Point, Soo Locks, Garlyn Zoological Park, Tahquamenon Falls, and the beautiful scenic drive down old M-119 to Harbor Springs known as the Tunnel of Trees are just a fun day trip away. The choice is all yours!
