Why Theresa C Johnson chose Greenbrier County

Located in the Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, WV area. There is a breathtaking panaramic view. This is not a cookie cutter home. It is solidly built with 4x4 construction, a custom built cedar home with the interior finished with natural wood from top to bottom, 2 stone fireplaces and a hot tub sanitized with an ionizer system. The setting and ambiance gives you a perfectly comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. It is totally secluded, there are no homes that you can see near you for your privacy. There is a second cedar home down the road, also totally private to the other, but walking distance, that could be used in addition for large groups.

What makes this lodge unique

Located in the Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, WV area. It is central to events and tourist attractions, such as Historic Lewisburg, Lost World Caverns Caves, Organ Cave, Snowshoe Ski Resort, Winter Place Ski Resort, The Greenbrier Resort, The New Orleans Saints Training Camp, The Greenbrier River, New and Gauley River for River Rafting, Bridge Jumping, Kayaking, Swimming, Blue Bend State Park for picnics, swimming, fishing, with wildlife and scenery everywhere.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This Review was written in the Lodge's Guest Book and this is what was said:

Our stay was from April 28th to August 10, 2012. This is our second year staying at Vista View. We come to the Lewisburg area every year. My husband's company does the bleachers and floors for the PGA. So we get to enjoy this house, the West Virginia mountains, and wonderful summer weather! We have enjoyed day trips to Snowshoe Ski Resort, Cass Railroad and the Natural Bridge. Take a cup of coffee and enjoy the mornings on the back deck....sunrise is outstanding! Deer with fawns are hear when we are. There are many other animals to be seen as well as a big variety of birds. Enjoy...we have!

Amazing Place!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a country getaway, this is it. Amazing beautiful place. Theresa is awesome. It is about 30 minutes from town, so make sure you are ok with that. It is WELL worth every penny though!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for being great guests and for your great review. It is quite welcoming, and once you are there, it gives you such a feeling of warmth. The drive is only about 17 miles in all from town, and takes only about 20 minutes once you get a little familiar with the drive. It is a nice change from being too close to the city, so private and peaceful. Come back soon!

Friars Hill Road vs Tail Of The Dragon

  • 3 of 5

I would like to start off by saying that this truly was an adventure. We had a group of 12 people stay at Vista View. We were in Lewisburg, WV for our National Christian Motorcycle Association Rally. The Rally was at the fairgrounds which is about 45 minutes away from the lodge. We were given directions to the lodge by the owner, whom I don't think has really traveled those roads in a long time, since we were told that not even the people that live in that area use those roads. We road our "Touring Bikes" via the directions that we were given, and I have to say that after having rode on The Tail of The Dragon in North Carolina the day before, which is 11 miles of about 318 curves and was totally awesome, I could not believe the fear that I had while driving down Friars Hill Road. Friars Hill road off of Rte. 219 IS NOT the way to get to the lodge. I do suggest that if you decide to rent this lodge, that you will definitely use another route to get there. The contact person that met us at the lodge gave us a better route, which also had a bit of treacherous areas, but never compared to Friars Hill Road. Also I would suggest that if you are going on Motorcycles, that you are aware that the driveway is graveled. There is a bit of a steep area once you actually get to the lodge. The entrance itself is somewhat difficult as we had a few bikes go down in that area, but after a few days I think we got the hand of it, but still proceeded with much caution. I would suggest to the owner that maybe paving that area would be a good idea, not necessarily all the way to the lodge, but that first dip would be great, especially for bikers. As for the house itself, I must say that the lodge was absolutely beautiful and the view was amazing and so peaceful. It met our needs as far as being able to fellowship all together as a group. Unfortunately we weren't able to attend all of our meetings at the Rally because the majority of them were in the evening and due to the lack of road lights (none) and the conditions of the road, we thought it best to get back to the lodge before it was dark out. So all in all the lodge is amazing, but just a note to all DO NOT use that road off of Rte 219, because no one uses it. It's dangerous!!!! Thank you

Owner's Response: “Thank you” for saying that the home was amazing, absolutely beautiful, peaceful & with amazing views. It is just that, & does have plenty of room & meets the needs for large groups to come together & bond. I see that you live in Florida. I so do part of my time, & I do go back & forth to WV very often. I am very surprised of some of your FALSE remarks here. I have over 38 “EXCELLENT” Reviews on this home. I guess since you were upset that you fell off your cycle somewhere on one of the roads is causing you to vent, but trying to put the blame & take it out on my property & the surrounding area, is not correct or justified. Some people are not as experienced as others in driving cycles on mountain roads. My Contact Person stated that It made her feel very uncomfortable & intimidating with the argument & actions presented between yourselves upon your arrival. I am sorry that this caused you to be upset, & to write this incorrect information, but I don’t know why you were so afraid. You cannot expect mountain roads to be like flat Florida roads, which are all lit up. Maybe you are not used to touring in true mountain & country roads. There are three sets of roads to get to the home, & if you were fearful, it is the first time that one of my guests had issues with touring their cycles there. I have been renting this home, & my other rental home, in the same location, for about 8 years with multiple cycle touring guests who have enjoyed the trip there, with most of them repeating their stay. I have had guests that actually stayed for 4 months at a time, & from Florida, for about 4 yrs. in a row. As a matter of fact, while you were in this one house, another cycle group that came for the same event, staying in my other rental, down the same driveway, thanked me for a wonderful stay because they enjoyed everything about it, & they did not miss any event. There were no complaints about the roads or driveway. In order to get away from it all, you cannot expect a super highway going up to the last leg of the mountain to the home to have street lights. This home is tucked away in the woods & the roads to these homes, are both considered on very good state maintained roads for mountain roads in WV. They are not dangerous or treacherous. You saying that people that live there don’t use those roads is truly ridiculous! it does not take 45 minutes to Lewisburg. Once again, you said that the stay in this home & on my property was great, & that is all that matters.

"The mountains are calling and I must go"

  • 4 of 5

We wanted something other than the usual hotel accommodations while attending an annual family reunion in the Lewisburg area. Vista View lodge did not disappoint.

Theresa (the owner) was prompt and professional in all respects. The house was fairly well equipped and comfortable for our large group. We are familiar with the area , those that are not may find the mountain roads a bit intimidating, particularly after dark. The location is remote but that is supposed to be part of the appeal.

The only unanimous negative in our group was the lack of a fire ring for campfires.

Like one of the other reviews stated; "I think a review always comes down to two simple questions: Would you stay at the location again, and would you recommend it to someone else. So, in answering those two questions the answer is a definite YES!"

Hope to visit again soon. Thanks!

Owner's Response: It is definitely a great place to gather with family. I am very happy that you were not disappointed. Thank you for your compliment of saying that I was "prompt and professional in all respects". I strive to maintain that for everyone. With my periodical inventory check of the home to reorganize, refresh and re-supply the home, it keeps everything in order as best as possible. With the home being situated tucked in the woods for your relaxation and serenity, you definitely will not find a super highway to the home, and you wouldn't want to. It would definitely change the appeal. Actually, the roads are state maintained secondary roads, are very good considering, and much better than most WV mountain roads. I and others have found driving after dark is easier than daytime driving, since you can see vehicle headlights shining around corners ahead of time. Since the home is really surrounded very close to the thick forest, I have had to remove the exterior fire mechanism to avoid forest fires. I have had guests manage to make s'mores on the grill. Or, you can just enjoy the ambiance of both interior stone fireplaces. Thank you for recommending my vacation rental Vista View Lodge to other guests, and for being great guests yourselves. Since you will be returning, be sure to remind me of giving you a "Repeat Customer Discount" for your next stay.

Excellent stay for my medical school graduation!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time celebrating my medical school graduation at this property. It was perfect! The house was large enough to accommodate everyone with room to spare. We really enjoyed the view off of the back deck - simply gorgeous! The hot tub was also the perfect addition to the property. It is very secluded, and traveling into Lewisburg took awhile, but it was not too bad! I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Lewisburg! :)

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing my vacation rental, at Vista View, in Greenbrier County, WV for your very Special Event, your Medical School Graduation! A Big Congratulations to you! I do get students and their families to enjoy their stay at this home for their Medical Graduation Celebration every year, and they say the same as you, on how comfortable and accommodating it is. I am glad you and your family had a wonderful time and it was perfect for you. Ah, yes, and THE VIEW! Enough said. It can’t be beat! Relaxing in the Hot Tub makes any stress go away and is always inviting. It is very private and secluded, which makes it unique. It is just far enough from town to be allowed to have all the privacy and seclusion necessary for this. So the scenic drive to the home from Lewisburg is always a welcome relaxing ride to unwind before you get there. Thank you again for recommending this property to anyone traveling to Lewisburg and thereabouts. We aim to please.

Lovely Place

  • 4 of 5

Lovely wood cabin away from it all. Description was accurate in all regards, especially concerning the remoteness of the property and the back roads which take you there.

Would have been nice to have had real wood to burn in the fireplaces, but only fire logs were permitted due to insurance. Otherwise, much to like about the cabin and location.

Owner's Response: Very happy to hear that it was up to your expectations, and that you were able to enjoy the peaceful privacy, seclusion, and the scenic drive up the mountain to get to the home. Yes, we provide the fire logs for the fireplaces for the safety of our guests. It burns perfectly for a great ambiance. We have had to resort to not allowing real wood, since some guests in the past, have unfortunately tried to make the fireplaces more like a bonfire. We try to make everything as safe as we can for our guests. Thank you for taking good care of the home. Don’t forget, that if you decide to visit Vista View again in the future, that repeat guests get a Discount. Hope to see you again soon!

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

The home is very private, with a gorgeous view out the back windows/balcony. There aren't other homes in sight. It's beautiful and peaceful.

The kitchen was stocked with everything you'd need to cook meals, and the living area was nice and open to the kitchen/dining, for a good social environment. There's a big TV, but no wifi. A good chance to unplug.

The town of Lewisburg was a big surprise... it's adorable, with upscale boutiques, bakeries, shops. It was so adorable, I wish I had spent more time exploring it. It's about a 35 minute drive from the home. Also, we explored the underground caverns, and that was definitely interesting and worth it. There are also windy country roads near the house of you want to get out and walk. If not, the house is a perfect cozy place to relax.

Theresa was great to work with, and stayed in contact with us leading up to our arrival. If the opportunity presents itself, we would stay here again!

Owner's Response: A chance to take a break and be refreshed is truly important. Even though you want to unplug, you can still access the internet and have cell or laptop connection. So glad you were able to enjoy the home, with its great panoramic views from the home and its roofed wrap-around porch, and get some relax time, and also discover what the area has to offer. Visiting the downtown area of Lewisburg, which is the shopping district for this home, is such a pleasant scenic drive to this interesting classy, yet truly Historic town. There are a few public Caves guests can visit there, and they are very interesting. There are many other events and locations of interest that you can discover the next time you visit. Thank you for being good guests, and I hope you decide to visit on another occasion. Remember, a Discount is given for repeat customers. See you soon!
