Excellent location but a bit noisy, as the bedroom windows face the street.

Loved our stay. Very nice apartment, conveniently located. Five story hike requires you to be in shape!

Stay in Chelsea

  • 3 of 5

The owner met us at the property and showed us how everything works. He also checked in, via email, with us several times during the stay. Apartment has plenty of dishes, pots and pans, glasses, etc. Owner is very cordial. Chelsea is a very convenient area of NYC with plenty of restaurants, several museums, the Chelsea Market and Highline. Subway is one block away.

Negatives are the apartment is on the 5th Floor of an older building with no elevator. Stairs are narrow and winding and there doesn't seem to be much maintenance to common areas of the building. Since I am 76 and my wife is 68, stairs presented a daily challenge - particularly when arriving with luggage and departing with luggage. Apartment is small, but has all the things that are needed for a stay. Double bed is against the wall in bedroom so if a couple is staying there, someone needs to crawl over the other person to get in and out of the bed. Plenty of interesting art work in apartment and owner had furnished unit with drinks and snacks before arrival. Cupcakes from local bakery were also a nice touch.

Owner's Response: The stair situation is fully disclosed in the apt description. When asked about specific questions/concerns about the apt after receiving the apt notes, they had none. Yes the building is old but it is clean. What part of Bohemian don't you understand? There is a second bed in the apt plus the main bed can slide in to several other positions. The rental price for this unit is a great value for Manhattan and I'm sorry these people lack the sophistication to see that. John, owner and a senior!

I felt like a "Newyorker"!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is exactly like the pictures (comfortable and cozy). Perfect location, metro and Citibikes are less than a block away. We used it basically to sleep and take a shower, and everything was perfect for that. I need to say that the "noise" from outside is not a problem at all. John was super nice, helpful and allways available for us trough e-mail. I would highly recommend this apartment!!!

Lovely spot in a favorite neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

It was all so effortless -- John is terrific, responsive, easy going but also on top of all the details. The apartment itself is comfy (even in a heat wave) and in a perfect location. It felt more spacious than the photos indicate -- we were two people and had plenty of room to relax and settle in. Would definitely stay here again -- even with the four flights of stairs!

Fantastic NYC trip!

  • 5 of 5

Took my teenage son to NYC for his birthday and loved staying in John's apartment! Roomy, quiet, cold air conditioning, lots of hot water, comfy beds, and lovely snacks to welcome us. The bedroom has a great view of the skyline, and lots of windows provide natural light during the day. There are 5 flights of stairs which are a bit steep, but that was totally fine for us. Much more authentic than a hotel which made the trip that much better!

Owner's Response: Thank you. Pleased once again to hear that NYC does not disappoint. A stair correction for the record. The apt is on the fifth floor hence four flights of stairs.

Perfect New York Neighbourhood Experience

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for the Easter week in John's lovely apartment with my two grown up children. The apartment was perfect for us. It was comfortable for 3 adults and John was kind enough to stock the fridge with wine and provide complimentary snacks and cakes. The apartment was round the corner from the subway but also within walking distance of 5th Avenue, the Highline and Chelsea Market. We also walked down to Greenwich Village for a meal on the Saturday and it was a pleasant 20 min walk. The neighbourhood felt safe, even at night and while there is a park/play area next to the building this was quiet in the evenings and during the day just the noise of young people playing games, quite nice actually. The apartment is on the top floor so while it is rather a climb it does mean that it is rather quiet for New York - also has a fabulous view of the Empire State and the skyline from the bedroom. Don't be put off by the rather utilitarian stairway - when you open the door of the apartment it is like an oasis of calm and full of lovely artwork. John is a gracious host and extremely good at making contact about arrangements and any other queries - he returns emails straight away. I wouldn't hesitate visiting here again - it made the holiday for us.
