About The Owner

Thanks for checking out our vacation property! We are a young family from Burlington, Ontario. We live a very active lifestyle and love to vacation in tropical climates. We love to cook, and friends and family are a big part of our life...and the three always seem to go together!

The Owner purchased this condo in 2011

Why The Owner chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

We vacationed in Madeira Beach and fell in love with the area. We have gone to all-inclusive resorts and have done adventure vacations as well...nothing felt quite as relaxing as our vacation in Madeira Beach. Living in Ontario, our winters are cold and long...we both knew that someday we would own a property to escape to in Florida. As soon as we spent time in the area, we knew Madeira Beach was where we wanted to be. It's so peaceful, quaint, friendly, and close to so much in the area. Being so close to the beach, we are able to bring our morning coffee along for our beach walks. You can also walk to John's Pass and our favourite spot...Candy Kitchen!

What makes this condo unique

What we liked about our property when we saw it is that it is one of the only units to have its own front yard. If you have kids, they will be able to play safely on the lawn, which is also set away from the road. Beyond the lawn is your parking spot, and beyond that is the road. If you don't have kids, you can just enjoy the privacy that the front lawn provides away from the rest of the complex. We look forward to creating many beach memories there with our daughter...and hope that other renters are able to create wonderful memories there too.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

It was a great place that was close to shops and restaurants and most importantly, the beach! We had a great time.

Not as nice as some of the other cottages

  • 2 of 5

The other cottages on the property seemed to be more nicely decorated with better amenities. The countertops have been replaced in this unit but the appliances were very old and the smoke detector would go off repeatedly for no reason in the middle of the night. The pull out sofa was stained and uncomfortable.

The cottage directly next door as well as #2 & #3 were much nicer.

The cleaning lady, I will say, was very thorough and did a great job.

The property managers were also very nice and attentive.

One of the washing machines on site was out of order though during our time there & there are only two, and for a couple of days both machines were out of order which was frustrating.

It was a short distance to the beach & the beach was very nice.

The cottage served its purpose, but I think we will search for something a little nicer next time.

Ok except the property management's attitude!

  • 3 of 5

The stay was great! The cottage was wonderful and very accessible to the beach and some of the local stores. The biggest concerns were the property management and other people staying in the complex. Imry was very abrasive toward children playing in the pool and this was very concerning. We felt unable to allow our son to play in the pool due to Imrie's attitude making it seem as children were not welcome. There were other people who said they stay there often whom said they had the same feeling. Also it was very concerning that we are very clean people but other people staying in the complex seem to constantly be watching. It's very hard to relax and enjoy yourself when you feel as unwelcome as we were made to feel while staying there.

Nothing like we expected. VERY Disappointed.

  • 1 of 5

Our first time using a VRBO. Friends told us "it's the only way to go on vacation". However, this rental was nothing like we expected. Arriving our first night, we couldn't find the manager who was supposed to be there to let us in. The office was closed. Pouring rain, no key, dropped off by our Uber driver. We were beyond upset. Our first night's sleep was horrible. The bed was uncomfortable and VERY hard. Pillows had stains on them (took pics). We had actually emailed the owner to demand a refund, but after looking for another place and none was available in the area that was comparable in price, we decided to make the best of it. The shower is about the size of a telephone booth (for those old enough to remember those). My husband is not a big man, about 6 ft, 200 lbs... but he literally could not turn around in it. Very disappointed in the bathroom. You could sit on the toilet and wash your hands in the sink, it was that close of quarters. There was a tv in the bedroom. It actually was smaller than my computer monitor! It was so tiny (hanging on the wall), that you couldn't even make out the wording on the screen! Our view consisted of a dumpster (with a fence sorta hiding it), and the parking lot across the street of dogs eating out of garbage cans. So, when you see this pic of the porch, it looks nothing like this. The chairs were old and worn and dirty. The view is definitely not nice. We actually were leery of the area at night. We were told it was walking distance to John's Pass, which it is, but it is over a mile and at 92 degrees, it was not fun. And, there were individuals walking along the street at night that left us not wanting to walk anymore. Only a couple of bar/restaurants nearby, so we walked to the gas station each morning to get coffee and a donut. We actually left for two days to go further south and stay with family to get away. This definitely was not a pleasant experience for us, and with it being our first VRBO, we doubt we would ever do this route again. We truly believe you get what you pay for.

Owner's Response: This was a very disheartening review to receive. As property owners, the part we love about renting out our beach cottage is providing a space where people can make great vacation memories. Seeing that this vacation was a disappointment is upsetting to us. We spoke on the phone the morning after arrival and I offered a refund, which was declined. We had a nice chat about the beach and the area and I suggested a great dining spot for that evening. We don't feel we misrepresented the property as stated in this review. Our pictures are less than a year old, and our overview states that our cottage is one mile from John's Pass (we are an active family, so to us, this is walking distance, but if it's too far in the heat of the summer months, there is the beach trolley that runs north and south along Gulf Boulevard), and there are other restaurants and grocery stores nearby, which can be easily "Google-mapped" and explored online prior to arrival. Having said that, most of our guests rent cars for their visit. If after exploring the area online, you feel there is not much nearby, a car rental is probably a good idea. Renting a vacation property is not a full-service experience that you would get from a hotel. Unfortunately the check-in process involved an unfortunately set of circumstances involving a late arrival, a down-pour, and the guests being dropped off to the unit door instead of at the office as the check-in instructions indicated, but after a quick phone call, our property manager walked immediately to the unit for check-in. In terms of the maintenance issues, we do appreciate when our guests let us know when something needs to be fixed or replaced. Being long-distance owners, we rely on our cleaning staff and property management to give us a heads up on these things, but sometimes certain things do slip by. We will make sure the pillows are replaced immediately. Regarding the dogs...we are a little confused by this as we have never seen or heard from other guests that there are street dogs in the area that eat out of the garbage (I've seen this on Caribbean islands, but not in FL). In our 6-years of ownership, we have had nothing but great reviews and repeat guests, so this is a bit of a shock to receive such a harsh review, but it goes to show that you can't make everyone happy. We will continue to do our best to give our guests a 5-star experience. -Kelly & Dan
