Vacationed on Vineyard since children, rented up the road last year & fell in love with the beach & town. Decided to buy on Old South Road as an opportunity to build memories with our family.
What made us fall in love with this house was the quiet, serene quality of the property. Sometimes you just want to get away, read, enjoy the beach & listen to the birds & waves crashing & unplug for the week...this is definitely the PERFECT place for that!
Perfect for a couple or those who want to be away from the crowds. We had a great stay. Property was very clean. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed for cooking meals. Property was just as described. We will definitely consider for future vacations.
My husband and I craved a peaceful summer retreat to celebrate our anniversary, and this adorable, well-kept cottage was the perfect find! It is located in the best part of the Vineyard (in my opinion), away from the crowds and close to the best beaches. It was well worth purchasing the $50 parking pass to Philbin Beach, as the public beach gets crowded. We spent many mornings walking the beach, and enjoyed some breath-taking sunsets as well. I highly recommend the Aquinnah Shop for breakfast overlooking the cliffs (just a 10 minute drive), and the Chilmark Store for a great deli lunch or some quick groceries (a 15 minute drive). We rode our bikes to Menemsha and bought fresh fish to grill at the cottage, which we enjoyed on the outside deck in wooded seclusion. We saw families of deer running through the woods daily!
Some tips: you definitely need a car to access the cottage. Like many of the houses in Aquinnah, the cottage is located 2 or 3 miles down a dirt road. You cannot easily walk or bike to Philbin Beach (or anywhere) from the cottage. We brought our road bikes, thinking we could easily explore the island and beaches on bike. Instead, we had to throw our bikes on our car and park (often at Philbin Beach) in order to get out for the day. For those of you who also like to bike - we learned the HARD way after a 20 mile ride in 90 degree summer heat that most of the beaches on the Vineyard require a walk-on pass as well! That was a big disappointment because it is one of our favorite things to explore off-the-beaten paths on our bikes. The public beaches are your best bet on foot/bike/car without a pass, which is why I highly recommend purchasing the private Philbin Beach pass and just sticking with that one. (Unless you like crowds!)
Overall, it was the perfect retreat, and we will definitely be back!!
Serene cannot describe this amazing little cottage! It is very private and secluded. If you're looking for a vacation experience, you've found the place for sure! The cottage is very clean, well kept and freshly done. It was perfect for my family stay. One of my favorite features was the outdoor cedar shower. What is better than taking a hot shower at the end of your day under the stars! This was by far one of my favorite trips. Martha's Vineyard is remarkably beautiful and to be able to spend it in a beautiful town in a sweet little cottage topped it off. Thank you for opening your home to our family and making this one of our most memorable trips! Happy cannot begin to describe our experience!
Short walk to breathtaking, (white sand) Philbin Beach (w/ private beach parking access) Magnificent Gay Head Cliffs just a short walk down beach.
