Overview

Iceland Cabin Rental Photos and Description

A Fully Modernized Two-Bedroom Log Cabin on the River Bank!

In the middle of the golden circle!

A fully-modernized charming family cottage, located 20 min. from Selfoss Village. It is 65 sqm (=700 sqft) with two bedrooms (double bed and one semi-double), and a studio couch in the living room for two persons, a total of six adults. It's open year-round for travelers. No smoking allowed, but pets are welcome. The cabin is fully equipped with all necessary kitchen utensils, dish washer, washing machine, hair dryer, WiFi, and a three-burner Weber gas grill on the deck. Wood for both the indoor and outdoor wood stoves is provided. The 80 sqm (=861 sqft) south deck has a hot tub and brand-new furniture. Parking for several cars.

The cabin is extraordinarily well decorated and homey, with an exceptional eye for detail. It's also ideally located on the banks of the river, in a beautiful scenic setting, in the middle of all the tourist attractions of South Iceland.

There's great view over Hvítá River from the cabin and short distance to all major nature pearls in South Iceland: Gullfoss and Geysir, Thingvellir, Kerið, Sólheimar, Laugarvatn Village, Skálholt, Arnarker, Landmannalaugar, Skógafoss, Háifoss, Thjórsárdalur, Jökulsárlón and Reykholt, Baula, Hraunfossar and Paradísarlaut in Borgarfjörður, and Keilir and Blóa Lónið on Reykjanes. The cabin is perfect for day trips to these locations, as well as to Reykjavík, since it is so conveniently located only an hour's drive from the capital.

The new swimming pool at Borg is extremely good for a country-side pool. It has small warm pots for children, play area and swimming area, and geothermical hot water, of course, which is standard for Iceland.

There's only two minutes drive to one of the most popular golf clubs in Iceland, Kidjaberg Golf Course, and very short distance to the swimming pools in both Hraunborgir and Minniborg. There is a 15–20 min drive to Selfoss.

There's a Jetski rental at Lake Svínavatn and angling for example in Lakes Apavatn, Laugarvatn, Úlfljótsvatn, not to mention in Lake Thingvallavatn itself, as well as in Hvítá River which is located just in front of the cabin.

Hvítá is a salmon river and cabin owners in Kiðjaberg have two fishing canes/licenses in the river per day during the angling season. Angling fees were 3000 ISK for half a day in 2012, or approximately $ 24. This is a special deal for cabin owners in this particular local area, and their guests, not available to others. The nearest lake, lake Hestvatn, also offers trout angling, free of charge.

There is prolific birdlife in the area, making it perfect for birding and birdwatching. There are also several beautiful hiking trails to be found, with breath-taking view over mountains, glaciers and the ocean.

Several glaciers can be seen from the Kiðjaberg area, such as Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, Hofsjökull and Langjökull. The driving distance to Eyjafjallajökull is less than an hour.

It is also possible to do snowmobile tours, super jeep tours, glacier walking, ice climbing, riding lessons and horse riding tours, visit the cultural historical sites, in addition to experiencing the fantastic natural sites in the area.

Minimum stay is three nights. Note that included in our prices is rent of bed linen, towels, etc.

A part of the rental income is donated to Hordur Barddal's Memorial Fund for Disabled Golfers. Hordur founded the Icelandic Disabled Golf Association in 2001, in collaboration with the Icelandic Golf Association, and was the director of the board until his untimely death in 2009. He built the cabin, together with his late wife Soffia, in the summer 2004.

About Jóhanna and her sisters

My two sisters and I are Icelandic, all brought up in Iceland, although I presently live in Belgium. We divide between us the work in renting out the cabin. I do the paperwork, everything that can be done over telephone and email, and they do the practical things that depend on one being locally situated. My sisters drive up to the cabin in between guests to change sheets and do the final cleaning. We take two weeks off the calender in June to do maintenance.

We varnish (parts of) the cabin every summer; in May 2013 we made the veranda bigger and installed a hot tub on the veranda. In November 2013 we set up a G4 pay-as-you-go internet connection, in January 2014 we installed a washing machine and a new shower. This upcoming June, we are renewing parts of the kitchen fittings, we're varnishing the indoor floor, and we're setting up a closet in the smaller bedroom. In the fall 2016, the plan is to install a geothermical heating system in the cabin.

Jóhanna and her sisters purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Jóhanna and her sisters chose Iceland

Our father, who was disabled, built this beautiful log cabin in the summer 2004, and our late stepmother furnished and decorated the cabin. She had an exceptionally good taste and an eye for detail. After our father's untimely death in 2009, my two sisters and I came into possession of the cabin. We decided to rent it out, partly because of the economic crisis, and partly because we would like to share this beautiful cabin with other people. We are extremely proud of the cabin and our father's achievements. This is the perfect cabin for people who want to experience a personalized cabin with its history, including the history of the people who built it and their descendents.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is extraordinarily well decorated and homey, with an exceptional eye for detail. It's also ideally located on the banks of the river, in a beautiful scenic setting, in the middle of all the tourist attractions of South Iceland.

Beautiful little cabin in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, with 4 children just retuned from staying at this lovely cabin. First, the communication with Johanna is nothing but the best. Her quick response to all my random questions (traveling with 4 kids will do that) was amazing. The house sits on a beaufitul setting, very tranquil. It looks like the area is being developed more, but you will never know from this house. It's so peaceful. My kids spent hours and hours playing in the back yard on the first day. As the evening approached, we were restless and went for a drive. We packed a picnic and went up to Gulfoss and Geysir (a short drive) to eat our dinner over looking the hills and valleys of the Golden Cirlce. It just doesn't get better than that. Whenever we had questions, I called one of the sisters, Fanney, who was so gracious and kind and so helpful. Loved, loved our stay at your beautiful cabin. It's so evident your cabin is so loved and treasured by the three sisiters. Thank you for letting us stay and create our own wonderful memories.

Private, Beautiful, Incredible

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent an amazing week in the cabin for our honeymoon.

We were first greeted at the door by Fanney and her husband, they could not have been nicer or more accommodating if they tried. From every helpful detail on where to find things or operate things in the cabin, to where to find things in town as well as the delicious chocolates, strawberries and bottle of champagne they had left for us on arrival. The cabin was the ideal spot to come home to after a day travelling around the the amazing country and there was no better way to finish off the day then with a glass of champagne and sit in the hot tub hoping for a glimpse of the northern lights (we were unlucky in our attempts unfortunately). The cabin is just as described and looks even better in life then in the pictures. The sisters and their families have an amazing cabin with an amazing story behind the cabin, it feels extremely homely, warm and welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend this log cabin to anyone and would love to hopefully return one day.

Cosy Cabin with a Fantastic View!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, cosy cabin, ideally located to visit all the highlights in South Iceland, short distance and easy to drive to and from. Very friendly, very helpful owners. Spatious, three possible sleeping rooms available, clean and full of interesting souvenirs. Shopping in Selfoss just 20 min to drive. Great view onto the river Hvita, very peaceful, quiet, well equipped for self catering. Nice swimming pool just 5 min away in Borg. Huge patio to sit and watch the birds, even our older kids loved to stroll around. Great place! Thanks!

A little bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Booking the cabin could not have been easier and Johanna was so quick to answer my endless emails. We were very excited for our 4y old daughter as she had not seen snow before. On arrival at the cabin my partner and I were blown away by how stunning the view was and we were thrilled that the whole place was snowy white!

The cabin is so homely, beautifully laid out and full of quirky little nick nacks, our daughter particularly loved her room with the little wooden boats in it! It was also nice to read the story of the cabin and Hordur who built it, what a great man he was with a lovely smile.

We found everything we needed in the cabin, the beds were comfy and we were lovely and warm throughout our stay. There were DVDs, games, books etc, it is like they have thought of everything. I very much liked the underfloor heating, just perfect for cold toes after walking in the snow.

I would highly recommend this cabin to my family and friends, we may even try and get another visit in ourselves one day.

Thank you so much for making our first trip to Iceland such a comfy and cosy one :)

Loved our time at cute cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was small but beautifully sited with sweeping views to the river bend. Remote, yet some neighbors in site. Close to many attractions in south central Iceland. We ventured far and wide from this starting point. Owner was very accommodating. Visitors should check out the city pool in Selfoss. We went swimming every day in Iceland - outdoors! Either in a city pool or hot creeks.
