Our recent trip to NYC was made perfect by our choice to stay at this charming property. What a delightful home complete with comfortable furnishings, everything one could need for their stay, a little slice of "country" in the beautiful garden, and homemade cake upon arrival!! Wait, did I mention that there are two full baths in this apartment?!? You will find the home clean, well maintained, filled with lovely pieces, and sprinkled with whimsy. Oh, my…who could ask for more?!?!
The apartment is centrally located within a short walk to Starbucks, a grocery/convenience store, a laundry service, the subway, and quaint eateries to meet the taste of virtually everyone. We loved walking about the neighborhood and having a sense of really being a part of the city, versus simply a guest at a hotel.
Should you continue to have a doubt about booking this property, let me simply say that you will not find a more welcoming hostess!!! Joan greeted us upon our arrival (which was quite late at night!!) with the warmth of a long lost friend. Her grace, charm, and humor will make you feel as if you have known her your entire life. All the while, Joan is absolutely professional in all correspondences, answers questions in a very timely fashion, and makes every attempt to ensure your stay is all that you could wish for….
We will be back ~ frankly, I sorely wish we did not have to leave!!!!
Joan greeted and welcomed us to her charming home. The beds were comfortable and having 2 bathrooms was a plus for 3 seniors. Because of our busy schedule we were unable to take advantage of the lovely garden and the outdoor seating. We would definitely recommend this place and are hopeful of returning soon.
We just returned about 48 hours ago and had a delightful experience with the property and the surrounding area.
Everything pointed out in the other reviews we agree with, starting with Joan. She is not only very attentive but also a delightful person.
The apartment is well decorated and reflects the caring touches of Joan. .
And it's nice to have the convenience of a walk up garden apartment.
A very walkable area with everything you need nearby, including delis/groceries and dozens of dining experiences. One of Manhattan's best Italian restaurants – – Elio's -- is a very short walk up E. 84th. Many different bars/pubs are nearby that reflect the character of the UES.
Subway is just a few blocks away on East 86th, and we also used the cross town bus for quick access to museums and cafes and coffee bars near Central Park.
We had a great experience at Joan's place. It is located in a wonderful part of Upper Eastside Manhattan, which is close to transportation, along with an incredible array of restaurants. The place itself is cozy, warmly decorated and the garden is magnificent. Joan was warm and gracious as she met us at her apartment and showed us the ins and outs of the place itself and the Upper Eastside. She supplies her guests with all the luxuries of home, that included information about New York as well as menus from all sorts of menus from the area. You can eat in or dine out for every meal and not even leave the area, it is so rich with food. I highly recommend any visitor to use Joan's place as it is superior and more affordable than a hotel.
We stayed there for five days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Joan, the owner, was very gracious an helped orient us to the apartment and the neighborhood. it was well equipped and well maintained. The only problem was trying to get confirmation of the reservation from VRBO. Joan and I ended up having to confirm the reservation on the phone since VRBO had some technical problems and could not confirm it.
I feel bad it has taken so long to write this review for Joan, so here I go!
We actually stayed for a few days from Dec 30 - Jan 2, 2014 from California. This was my first experience using this type of online rental. So I was a bit nervous not knowing for sure we would actually get what we thought we were. We arrived NY and took a cab to the apartment. Upon arrival it was already smelling good with the smell of a chocolate cake cooking in the oven - a treat that Joan likes to do if she has the time. Joan is a very pleasant, accommodating person and extremely fair. This was a first trip for my boyfriend and I to New York for NY's Eve. I really wanted to see the ball drop. We had decided in October, but it was already late in the game to make reservations in NY, everything was so expensive, if even available! Then I came upon HomeAway and found Joan's better than expected cozy, fully furnished, 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment! The place was perfect, the closet was enormous and even more surprising, she had this beautiful little backyard - who would of thunk in NY for New Year's Eve! It met all of our expectations and more; kitchen well supplied, bedroom clean warm and comfy, Living room enough to entertain and 2 bathrooms! All the linens, dishes, towels, even some little things she allowed us to use were perfect. I ended up cooking NY's Eve dinner for another couple of our friends and we all were just amazed how comfortable and fabulous Joan's home was. It was convenient for everything we needed, we just cabbed it to wherever we went and one day we actually walked the 30 blocks to 57th Street. The day we left it was snowing to add the last touches of a winter wonderland in NY for the start of 2015! I highly recommend this Home – it’s so much nicer than a teeny tiny hotel room, and so affordable. We would have only stayed 2 days in a regular hotel, but with HomeAway we stayed for 4-5 days. If you’re like me and enjoy cooking – you will find this place is a Home Away from Home! Thank you Joan for your graciousness as hostess/owner of a beautiful home for us to enjoy. Hope to be back again some day!
