Come enjoy the feel of home at this sweet get away; a well kept secret in the Lakes Region of Western Maine. Our home is located on the north basin of Moose Pond.
Our house is about 100 yards away from a sandy beach on exclusive Moose Pond. With 17 miles of shoreline it's perfect for water sport of all kinds. The fishing is great. In fact, the Maine state record for Large Mouth Bass is from Moose Pond.
There is great hiking, mountain climbing, biking, rock climbing (N.Conway) and every type of outdoor activity you can imagine.
Please consider winter rentals as well. We are only 1.5 miles away from Shawnee Peak/Pleasant Mt, a great family ski mountain. Since 1989, Shawnee Peak has been offering the most night skiing in Maine, and now with 4 lifts servicing 19 trails and two terrain parks, they offer the most night skiing in the East, hands-down.
This location is also great for snow mobiling, ice fishing, snow shoeing and any other winter activities you can think of.
This is also a great fall spot for the foliage, apple picking and fair season,
There is plenty of dining and shopping in Bridgton as well as in North Conway (outlet stores, alpine slides, water park, ski areas and more), which is only 20 miles away. Some other popular areas to visit while you are in town are:
*Freeport (home of LLBean): 75 miles away
*Naples (Sebago/Long Lake): 15 miles away
*Portland (Maine's largest city): 45 miles away
We were two families staying at this spacious home. There was enough room for everyone! The beach and the pool were both wonderful and enjoyed by the kids and the adults. There was local hiking and shopping, and North Conway was only 30 minutes away. The owners were very helpful and responsive. We hope to go back next year!
Second year in a row! LOVED IT. Can't ask for a more spacious camp with everything you need. There is plenty of sleeping space, large living room and dinning area. You can take a late day nap, head over to the pool or cruise the glass like lake. Even a place out back for the dog. Never disappointed here.
We stayed here in July 2011 with another family. 4 adults/4 children all together. It was our first visit to Maine. Communication with the owner was great. Answered any/all questions we could come up with. The house was clean and well maintained. The all season porch was well used. If we werent eating, the kids were playing. It was my favorite room. In the evening we would sit there with the windows open and listen to the sounds of nature. The location was good, we liked feeling we were far away but really only a 15min ride to groceries. We picked this house because we wanted to go to many parts of Me, and this was at the center of it all for us. It was about an hr or so ride to every where we wanted to go. On our down time, the kids enjoyed riding the bikes in the driveway, or swimming in the pond, taking walks. Dads took the kids for a canoe ride also. The house was big enough for everyone to have some space. If the kids werent getting along, we could seperate them between the big lr, small tv room, porch, or bedrooms. It was great having a washer/dryer there too. The kitchen had everything-pots/pans, pitchers, utencils, plates, silverware, plenty of everything. The grill was very useful, as this was a vacation and mom does not want to spend it in the kitchen. It was great being able to unpack as there was plenty of drawer space and not have to pull everything from a bag for a week. Pictures and descriptions are accurate. If I were to change anything-I would put queen beds in. That is not a complaint, just a preference. Overall everything we wanted and a great stay!
After a busy Christmas, we left our home in So. Maine to relax! Instead of I-95, we took scenic roads through Fryburg. We had been to the area many times, but didn't realize how close we were. The views of the hills were great. The house is across from a lake and under the ski mountain. Beautiful views from the beaches w/playground. There are lots of snowmobile trails, canoes, docks, ice skating area, etc. When we entered, we were thrilled at how comfortable and equipped the home was. Our guests (a couple with 3 kids) had plenty of room to stretch in their own apt downstairs. All beds & pillows were comfortable with lots of bedding if necessary. There was plenty of floor space upstairs as well. The kids exclaimed, "They have air hockey!" There was no blowing of air, which made it safer and fun for the little ones. The dining/play area was well used. We made hot cocoa, baked cookies, had playdough and games, but if we didn't there was an entertainment assortment already there (including books to read). Every interaction with the homeowner was friendly and light. Cell service is great, but no internet. Since it rained, instead of skiing, we drove 15 minutes to N. Conway NH where there is too much to mention. Grocery shopping if you'd want. We did an indoor water park for $15/head which was a blast & watched skiiers at Mt. Cranmore while the guest adults shopped. Meals at the house were easy with any pot/pan necessary! The next morning we were at Shawnee Peak at 9am. Kids went to 2 hour lessons where they went from clueless to skiers! The adults got time to bomb around on all man-made snow and it was perfect! Then we hung w/the kids on the bunny slope. We drove a few minutes back to the house for supper and a break. When we returned to the mountain for night skiing, an 8 yr old was ready for the chair lift. It was a success! There was a little natural snow on the ground that allowed us a snowball fight. Another day was spent by taking an hour ride to the Mt Washington hotel which was incredible. Thomas Edison and the likes of stayed there since 1902. We hobnobbed and watched CRAZY people mountain climb on icicles in 21 degree weather at the end of the earth. I don't get that "sport". Shawnee Peak had a torch light parade and fireworks. It's a fun place for any age. We are looking forward to our next stay & plan to take the railway tour. Even with unco-operative weather, we had lots of options to enjoy our time. We can't wait to come back to Moose Pond!
This is one of New England's best kept secrets. Come stay in Maine's Lake Regions and enjoy all there is to offer!
