Nice place but view of river is lacking

  • 4 of 5

Reviewer Comments:

Overall it was a nice place. We had everything we needed, although there didn't seem to be enough wash cloths. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was clean. The futon in the game room was very uncomfortable; I'm glad no one from our group had to sleep on it. We thought this house would actually have a view of the river but the trees are so grown up you can barely see it at all. Enjoyed my time in the hammock.

Reviewer Comments:

Very Disappointed by the distance to river, not at all "at your doorstep" as described:( could barely even see the river from the house, much less enjoy the sounds. The house was clean & kitchen well equipped. Mattresses were awful, futons are not at all sleep able, upstairs queen was extremely noisy, King was worn out, slats broken in twin and futons were awful. Jacuzzi had green water. Screens torn on porch. Not what we paid for at all:( not to mention having to drive @25 minutes to dispose of trash!)

Owner's Response: Riverhouse on the New does offer private river access across a small gravel road, two minute walk or quick drive with 4WD or AWD. Please review photos to see distance from cabin to river. We're working to update bedrooms. Detailed trash instructions are provided and there's a local convenience center located within 10 minutes of the property. Unfortunately Ashe County does not offer trash pick up services.

Reviewer Comments:

It was an amazing family trip about 11 of us. It was very spacious and plenty of room for everyone. Would definitely do it again. The only draw back was how far the river was from the house and that you actually couldn't see it from the house. But beautiful as well.

Reviewer Comments:

My husband & I went up early to walk around W.Jefferson and enjoy the restaurants & shops. We met our children & grandchildren at the house later in the afternoon. We had a challenge finding the lockbox with the house key.. when they said it was on the deck, it was literally mounted to the side of the deck post.. but we finally found it! We had an absolutely wonderful time! The river was a little further from the property than was represented in the online description but it was not a problem. We had 2 children, ages 3 & 6, so it was probably a good thing that the river wasn't as close as we thought! The water was shallow enough for them to wade out & sit on the rocks... glad we all brought water shoes, very rocky! The house itself was very secluded down a long, windy dirt road... do not arrive after dark, you will not be able to see ANYTHING, it's pitch black! Everything was clean and comfortable & the kitchen was stocked with any & everything you would need to cook meals. My husband & I stayed in the upstairs master bedroom, adult son stayed in upstairs bedroom and gave the downstairs bedrooms to my daughter and her family so everyone had their own "space." We took advantage of the hot tub & fire pit (we brought some firewood but there was firewood on the property) and, in the evenings, let the boys run around the huge yard with flashlights & glow sticks! It was a wonderful place to just get away & spend quality time with the family!

The home was in a great location. The drive into the neighborhood is a little steep and narrow especially if you have a large vehicle. The bed frames need to be replaced. Several are almost broken and very old.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. The drive is a little steep and we ask for guests to have a four wheel drive. We are also working on switching out the bed frames. Thank you again for your feedback.

Reviewer Comments:

My kids enjoyed playing in the New River. The river is a much longer way from the house (via a steep walk) than property description lead us to expect. Property was clean, but downstairs paint colors made us feel we were in a basement--too dark! Bunk beds were fun for kids, but they were rickety and squeaked when laid upon. Master toilet needed tank parts replaced; it spewed water unexpectedly and we had to stop using it altogether. Easy fix to replace tank parts. I walked under a cantaloupe sized hornets nest under the wooden stairs outside; one fell on my head, but didn't sting me. Kids enjoyed running around in yard and sitting in hot tub. Red couch needs to be replaced; it looked very worn. Our stay was not all bad, but we won't be staying at this house again. Cleaning ladies were very nice, and they did a good job of cleaning the inside of the house.
