Built in 1897, the Quinta Escondida is a rare historic country house and orchard, 43km/26m from Valparaiso. On the edge of Limache town, access is easy, with or without a car. We are 2hrs from the international airport of Santiago, and also just 40mins from the nearest Pacific Ocean beach at Vina del Mar, reached by road or metro train. The metro station is 10mins walk from the house and also has trains to the UNESCO listed port of Valparaiso (60mins).
The fully restored property is renowned for its fruit and something is always in season year round. The park-like gardens are very spacious and contain a swimming pool, play ground, BBQ area, and many shady groves and secluded places to relax, read a book or enjoy a drink in peace.
The private self-catering apartment (approx. 861 sq ft) is on the first floor, with views across the valley of Limache in three directions. The large private roof terrace is ideal for watching sunsets. The en-suite bedroom, sitting-room, and fully-equipped kitchen are bright and spacious. WiFi is included and visitors are welcome to use the extensive library in the main part of the house.
The Quinta Escondida makes a wonderful base for exploring central Chile, and is also an excellent place to relax before and after more strenuous trips to the Atacama Desert or Patagonia. For those needing to improve their fitness prior to hiking the Andes, the nearby national park in the coastal range around La Campana Mountain is ideal preparation.
The Mediterranean climate of the Limache Valley has always been famous for its vegetables, but in recent times, it has also become known for its centers of yoga and meditation, dance and music, as well a a major anthroposophical venture based at the local Rudolf Steiner School.
Your host has spent over 25 years travelling the world, but South America is her passion and she is an excellent source of information on all things touristic in Chile.

It was simply love at first sight. The Quinta Escondida is unique and the opportunity to live here is a privilege. We also adore the views across the valley and the hiking in La Campana National Park.
A great asset is enjoying the benefits of a small country estate, yet being five minutes walk from the main supermarket in town, and also within easy reach of the the urban delights of Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar . You do not need to rent a car to explore from here, because public transport is easy and extensive. The property is completely private and ideal for those who want to relax in peace. The owner's personal library is a great source of literature in English, Spanish, German and French, as well as many guide books. The tourism information available to visitors is unrivalled.
Single mother travelling with two kids really enjoyed the pool and trampoline, and meeting the hosts.
We spent the first two weeks of a month long holiday in Chile at this property. It is very relaxing and the pool and shaded areas beside it are great for those hot afternoons in mid January. We were able to get a feel for Chilean life and culture, as Natasha is very helpful in advising you which areas to see or avoid, and what places to drive to for sightseeing. Apartment is comfortable and great for cooking (as local produce ,fruit ,fish is amazing) and the outdoor deck is nice for early morning and late evening relaxing. Again had a wonderful stay , and the hosts help in regards to maps and info is invaluable.
My family and I had a nice stay in Limache with Natasha serving as a very welcoming and helpful host. She provided relevant information on local attractions, hiking trails, and a day trip to Valparaiso. The apartment was very roomy with a nice terrace overlooking the Limache valley. It would have been nice to in room heaters but most homes in Chile are not heated in the winter and Natasha did give us a heads up to bring warm clothes. This would be an ideal rental in the other three seasons. I would recommend this rental.
We are a married couple in our mid 60's. We speak no Spanish. This was our first time in Chile. We rented a car at Santiago airport and drove up to Limache. We arrived at Quinta Escondida and appreciated the quiet and ability to relax from a full two days of traveling. The grounds are beautiful with a pool and several sitting areas. The apartment is furnished with everything we needed to cook with. The private terrace off the living room was used to watch gorgeous sunsets and enjoy our wine. Natasha gave us travel trips and itinerary choices around the Limache area. She shared the fresh fruit she grows and there was a plate of fruit in the apt when we arrived. We went to the local farmers market with her and enjoyed a walk downtown to a local bakery. This visit at Quinta Escondida was a great way to start our visit in Chile and with Natasha's expertise and help to plan the rest of our trip.
This was a nice, quiet getaway from Santiago and near a national park with good hikes. Natasha was easy to communicate with, flexible, and helpful but in no way intrusive. We used the self-service apartment and enjoyed the fall avacados, grapes and parsimmons. All were delicious. We had our 6 year old daughter along, who is not a pet person, but she loved the dogs. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet getaway, some nice hikes, or a stay a bit away from Vina or Valpariaso. There is not much to do in the town of Lemeche, itself, but still a few good resturants, a nice town square/plaza, and friendly folk.
On short notice we decided to spend a month in Chile and were looking for a place that was affordable for our budget, offered spacious living quarters not to feel claustrophobic, had a full kitchen to to stay on our special diet, and be a good base for excursions to Santiago, the wine region, and the ocean. We found Quinta Escondido and our hostess Natascha, and found a lot more than we could have dreamed of.
A large and comfortable apartment on top of Natascha’s house, a large and fully equipped kitchen, a sunny terrace overlooking a swimming pool nestled amidst a huge garden full with organic fruits and herbs, and most important a knowledgeable and very helpful hostess – “we came as guests and we left as friends” maybe the best description.
At first sight Limache looks like a non-descript town, but if you talk to Natascha for even a few minutes you get introduced to all the hidden treasures, starting from the organic market at the local Waldorf School, a selection of small cafes and restaurants hiding in the side streets, the Chilean-Italian club where local families gather for true Italian food, the large Sunday market, to the Yoga studio in the same building and the amazing healer Rosa Puga practicing there. And if anything unusual and interesting happens in Limache, like a free live concert by the famous Inti-Illimani, you can be assured that Natascha let’s you know.
Limache is perfectly located and can serve as an excellent base camp for many excursions. Valparaiso can be reached by a 45-minute metro ride, Santiago is easily reachable by Pullman buses, and a nearby national park (reachable by public transportation) offers challenging and very rewarding day hikes. And Natascha is always there to point out time schedules, places to go, things to see. During our trip we went to Santiago several times, staying overnight when the last return bus was a bit too early for the events we wanted to attend, we shuttled down to Valparaiso many times, mostly just for day trips, and we took 5 days off from Limache to fly to the Atacama desert to visit a friend and take in the amazing vistas of that area. And when we returned, it was like coming home.
We only rented a car to visit the Cassablanca Wine Valley. Here having a car afforded us to set our own schedule and spend long times at the most interesting estates rather than being raced from one place to the next, allowing us to go well beyond the basic tastings at Casa del Bosque and Emiliana Winery.
The accommodation is large, quiet and easily accessible from Santiago and centrally located as related to Valparaiso and Vino Del Mar.
Host is helpful and friendly.
Trips to vineyards, beaches, the capital, rural rodeos and special places in central Chile can be arranged.
