Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths recently updated and right on the water, very clean

We have too many summer commitments (darn kids--hahaha) and too little time to go to use our cottage, so we are offering our place to you!

This is not a resort and not an "over used" rental, but our home. If you'd like the feel of "your own place" for the week, this is the place for you! Huge glass wall gives a great view of the yard extending to the waterfront. Watch the kids play in the huge yard--from the comfort of the couch! Lots of clean wood inside to give it the feel of a northern cottage, while all the comforts of home.

The perfect quiet location just minutes from Downtown Traverse City's action, the Interlochen Arts Academy, and even the Lake Michigan lakeshore /Sleeping Bear Dunes--while quietly letting you relax on an all sports lake that is not crowded!

After vacationing at many VRBO properties, we have decided to share our place with other families to enjoy. From our experiences, we know what it is like to walk into and rent a home for our family. These experiences have allowed us to create an experience that will save you many headaches and get the maximum fun and relaxation time out of your holiday with us!

One of the best features of this place is that many of the 'little things' are already there and included. For example: we leave you some starter laundry detergent, toilet paper, a cupboard of some spices, bandaids, etc. You don't have to run to the store for some salt/ pepper, garlic salt type stuff! The kind of things you really don't want to make a special trip to the store to get...is already here for you!

Fully equipped home with a large deck overlooking the grassy yard leading to your own private waterfront , dock (fishing and mooring of your boat) make this home a prefect getaway for the whole family to relax, unwind and watch the kids play. Minimal noise and traffic on the road and lakefront area--as we are located off the busy roads on a quiet peninsula, away from 'most' of the tourist!. If you want the city life or it rains, the 'big town' of Traverse city is only 15 minutes away!

This house has a great living room with the whole lakeside wall of glass, and a beautiful view of the lake. This is a great place for the kids to play, watch TV, and make noise, and be kids--while making memories.

On the beach is a hammock and large fire pit for campfire stories or making some hobo pie treats. Yes the irons are in the house for you to use! Out by the water are at least three kayaks for you also to use, if you desire. You also get your own private dock!

The house has three bed rooms and three baths.--none of which are huge, but you'll be playing outside so much, you'll barely notice. One bedroom is actually a loft with a king sized tempurpedic matress--- ahhhhhhhh is all I can say about that space!

About Ron

My family likes to play outside. We have rebuilt this entire place with relaxation and comfort in mind. No visitors have ever had a less than expected experience and many return year after year.

Our prime time summer openings are few, but we can't see keeping the tranquility to ourselves, and make it available when we are not able to use it. Therefore, it is not the 'typical rental', but is our other home. You will get to enjoy a comfortable place that feels like your OWN place--and not get the outrageous tax bill associated!!!

Ron purchased this house in 2003

Why Ron chose Duck Lake Peninsula

The Traverse City area and northern Michigan are unequaled in summer vacation values. It is as beautiful as any place in the States, and cost much less for a family to vacation than many of the East coast areas. In fact, it is fun to watch how many east cost license plates we see vacationing in OUR vacation land!

What makes this house unique

Quietness. While most lakefront homes have a busy road zooming by one side of the cottage/house, ours is located on a quiet peninsula with only one road on and off. The only traffic, other than pedestrians, is from the local home owners (usually taking a walk or walking their dogs)-- as there are very few homes available to rent in this area.

This makes for an unusually peaceful vacation and no surprises squealing down the road!

Also the location of the place allows for a zillion different day trip adventures. It is also the center for fishing...either right off the dock or to one of many nearby lakes! Yes you can tie your boat up to the dock right at the end of our own private yard.

Gorgeous Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My family's travel plans changed at the last minute and a friend recommended this lake cottage because of the location. The pictures were lovely, and we were very pleased with the location, cleanliness, and overall package! My teenagers loved the loft, but we spent most of the time outside on the lake, plus enjoying the yard and many flower gardens. It was a great place that was well furnished. The lake is clean and not crowded. One day it rained and we liked being so close to Traverse City---so, we spent the day in the town sightseeing & shopping--and came back to "our" cottage on Duck Lake for a cook out. The owners are wonderful hosts....Highly recommended and we plan to visit again next year!!!

Owner's Response: Glad we could help make some wonderful memories for you and your family and that we had a last minute week available for your schedule. We would love you have you guys back again next year and will do our best to make the sun shine all 7 days of your stay--instead of "only" 6!!! ;-) If not, Traverse City is 15 minutes away and even nicer to tour when it is not raining! Thanks again for the kind words.

You'll never want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

This property is just as you see in the pictures. It is a perfect get away! Ron and Tracie are so welcoming and accommodating. The house is clean, lots of amenities and the lake is incredible. The house is set back from the lake and has a great front yard for games and activities. Chairs on the deck let others sit back and enjoy the views.

The lake is clean and extremely quiet. We rented jet skis and my novice drivers were very comfortable because not a lot of boat traffic. The shed by the water had life jackets, tubes and oars for the three kayaks on the deck. There is a fire pit down by the lake and we made a fire almost every night.

Grocery and gas station just a few minutes away and it is conveniently located about 20 minutes from Traverse City. We made most of our dinners at the house, but plenty of restaurants in nearby Interlochen and Traverse City as well. Ron and Tracie are a wealth of knowledge of the area and willing to make recommendations to dine out as well as some local activities.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are looking forward to renting this house again!!!

awesome place and setting

  • 5 of 5

Great yard, lake and house! The place had all the amenities of home, but still had the "up north" feel with lots of wood in the house and a huge yard leading to the water. Kids had a great time playing in the water, while adults had a better time watching from the huge deck! haha.

In short, would put this place high up on the list of rentals we have stayed at over the last many years and would come back here again.

peace and quiet at the lake with my family!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Duck Lake and are coming back next year! The kids have a safe play area in front of the place (huge yard with bad mitten set up, and directly on the quiet waterfront area) or we sent them for bike rides around the peninsula. It was true, there is very little traffic, and we felt comfortable sending the kids down to the park to play outside (like kids are supposed to do!). We spent lots of time playing on the water with our boat and worked well with the owner's provided hoist! We even caught some fish (keepers) off the dock. We ended up having so much fun, we only went to town to get food. If the weather would have been bad, I can see that the town would be fun too!
