Beautiful ocean views surround you in these romantic cottages on a secluded, white, sandy beach. Relax in comfort on your lanai (patio) and listen to the waves gently breaking on a distant reef. Sunrises and moonrises on the ocean's horizon will surprise and amaze you. These cozy 500 sq. ft. beachfront cottages have a spacious feeling, fully equipped kitchens, washers and dryers, Flat-screen TVs, and lots of beach toys and equipment. Parking and wifi are included.
Swimming, relaxing on the lanai, BBQs and walking on the beach and are my favorite things to do here; but there are great tourist attractions nearby to enjoy too. The Polynesian Cultural Center is 5 miles north, the Turtle Bay Resort is 10 miles north, followed by 7 miles of the world's most famous surfing beaches and the historic surfing town of Haleiwa. Pack lightly, all you will need are a few clothes, your favorite food and drink items and you won't want to leave once you get here! (See photos for Cottage A and Cottage R and choose which beachfront cottage you prefer when requesting a booking.)
City life in Honolulu can be hectic, so I retreat to these cottages in the country for fun and relaxation. I live and work in Honolulu, but originally came from California, then lived on Kauai and Maui, before finally moving to Oahu. I love island living, and when traveling, I like to visit other islands. I'm a teacher, like to travel during vacations, and would be willing to trade time in my vacation cottage, in exchange for time in your vacation home, depending on the destination.
Karon Hansen purchased this condo in 1990
I've been coming to these beachfront cottages for 20+ years, and stay often to relax and enjoy the beach. I fell in love with these cottages the moment I saw them because they are only 45 minutes from Honolulu; in a quiet, tropical setting and on a wonderful, safe beach for children. Since then, this place has become my 'secret getaway' with its semi-secluded location, white sandy beach, and warm tropical waters. Many wedding proposals, and small intimate wedding take place at this location. The homeowners and guests are friendly and many homeowners have owned their apartments for many happy years. The location is truly a secret spot, and you'll feel like time stops when you're here.
If you have a busy life and want to get back to basics and nature, with modern amenities, but without the hassles of camping--this is the place. If you want to experience a stress-free island lifestyle--this is the place. If you've always dreamed of living on your own beach--this is the place. If you want the benefits of a big metropolitan city and live in the country at the same time--this is the place. Everything has been well thought out for your enjoyment--you'll have an outdoor beach shower, beach chairs and towels, BBQ, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, and peace of mind.
We have had a charming retro beach vacation... A flash of the past for us! Our cottage with plumeria in full bloom... Gentle breeze thru coco palms... Music of ocean... Took us backto our childhood. Taking home unforgettable memories of sunrises... A little sand still between my toes! Our grandchildren said this was their best time ever! They are 5 years old.
The brackish water streamlet was a big hit!
We build sand castles and left the real world for
A simpler life... Sun , sea, & sand!
It was simply grand! The Clay Ohana
The vacation was great always woke up to a sun rise and had a blast definitely recommended.
Thank you so much for this choice vacation spot. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day vacation at Punalu'u. The neighbors are friendly. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. The sunrises are fantastic, too. I also really appreciated that there was a little grocery store, Kaya's, just down the road that had everything we needed, including hooks and floats for our fishing gear, and ice cream :)
One of the sliding screen doors at the back patio was jammed because of rusted tracks. A simple cleaning out to free it up.
Sadly, we had an injury with a manowar jellyfish sting on one of our little ones while swimming. I would suggest that some instructions be left in the units about what to look for on the waves (especially on windy days) and how to treat a jellyfish sting. We're from Hawaii, so we had a good idea how to handle it. But for the visitors enjoying the ocean, I personally went up to each one on the beach to give them a gentle talk to watch over their children in the waters.
This is the ideal getaway from Honolulu! We definitely want to come back again next year.

Everything was as described, no surprises. The property was clean and fully stocked, plenty of towels and linens, beach toys, chairs, and pillows. Google maps didn't work using the address sent by the owner, we ended up driving around a little longer than necessary, but in the end found it based off pictures and reading mailboxes. Also the parking pass was not inside when we arrived so we ended up getting a notice on our car from security. Overall a great stay and i would recommend to anyone wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
We had such an amazing stay! The cottage was PERFECT for our family (my husband and I and our 2 teenage daughters). If you love listening to the waves, waking up to beautiful sunrises, walking on a beautiful beach steps away from your door, and no crowds this place is ideal. Karon was the best owner to corrispond with. She is so prompt with emails and texts which we greatly appreciated. Thank you Karon for sharing your beautiful cottage with us!
This is a 1950’s style cottage without upgrades with early Goodwill décor. It does have a small, off-brand flat screen TV. Among other things, it needs a new refrigerator, microwave and the table must be repaired (and get rid of that “vintage” TV enclosure). My wife’s first comment upon arriving here was “this is creepy”.
Yes, if you’re squeamish, there are ants but that’s typical of many shore properties. Hope you’re an early riser because there’s nothing between you and the rising sun but your porch screen. On the plus side, there’s lots of breeze on the porch and sleeping area (not so much in the kitchen and none in the bath/vanity).
The cottage is one unit with two apartments upstairs and two apartments downstairs. As a previous visitor said, this apartment is separated from the adjacent apartment by three sliding partitions. We were lucky because our neighbors were quiet but it has the potential of being a problem. There is no bathroom ventilation and the inner bathroom was HOT. We moved one of the supplied fans into the vanity area to help that situation and it worked.
With that said, Hawaii is beautiful (even if the cottage was disappointing). The facility is right on the beach, it is quiet and has a beautiful view. It’s a shame the owner hasn’t invested some upgrade/decorating dollars. We toured another cottage in the group and it was beautiful, although it rented for a little more. My recommendation is to save up and spend another $20 a night for a better place.
Great location for families, couples, and retirees who want to relax and spend time on a semi-secluded beach. Best features are: relaxing atmosphere, lovely beach, beautiful sunrises and moon rises over the water, and romantic starry nights. Time seems to stop here and you get the feeling that you've gone back in time to what Hawaii must have been like 50 years ago, and one recent guest wrote that if they could go back in time, they would want to live here!' There are plenty of things to see and do, onsite and nearby, and you are only 10 miles away from world famous surfing beaches, two 1st class golf courses, and the historic town of Haleiwa.
