'We loved sleeping with the windows open every night, to enjoy the cool night air and the peaceful, wooded surroundings.'
'Blue Hill is a quintessential Maine town, right by the water with local potters, good food, community theater, etc., but without the crowds of Bar Harbor. We hated to leave! — guest Sharon M.
Peter's Hill Guest Cottage is a two bedroom guest cottage within 1/2 mile walking distance to the quintessential Maine coastal village of Blue Hill! It is also less than 1/2 mile to Peter's Cove, a tidal swimming cove, and a three-minute drive to the hiking trails of Blue Hill Mountain.
The Cottage is set off from the main house, in a private setting on top of Peter's Hill above Blue Hill Harbor. It is handicapped- accessible (ask owner for details), has Direct TV, and is completely wireless. Plus, we are happy to share a sampling of our fresh vegetables from the garden when available!
For the past 25 years we have lived, worked, and raised our family on the Blue Hill Peninsula. This is our home and we love it here! We now offer our guest cottage for weekly vacation rentals. The cottage is set off from our main house, on the top of Peter's Hill above Blue Hill Harbor, within walking distance to Blue Hill village. We feel truly lucky to be living here, and we look forward to sharing this special place with you!

We stayed here the last week in August/early Sept. and could not have been more pleased. The house is so well designed that you feel comfortable in it right away. It's clean, airy, beautifully decorated and well-equipped. The photography was such a pleasant change from photos of lobsters, blueberries, moose etc., that it was not only refreshing but captivating as well. And the books on their shelves were so interesting that it kept us from reading the ones we brought with us. Very easy to cook in the kitchen which included every utensil, pot etc. you could possibly need and a bonus to have a washer/ dryer. We also liked that we could walk into town - though the steep driveway is a challenge on the way back up. But we got used to it by the 3rd day. The owners were extremely helpful in answering our numerous questions and left a very welcoming basket of goodies to get us started. We've stayed in 4 different houses in Blue Hill over the years. This one is unusual - unusually good!
Our family just returned home from our SECOND stay at Peters Hill Guest Cottage. Once again, Francoise and Scott welcomed us as guests and provided a very comfortable guest home for our long weekend with our son and my parents. In the morning the sun welcomed us into the kitchen, and on cue, we admired the deer in the field each night at dusk. This country setting made us feel right at home, and in an architecture that delicately blends New England and Europe. We enjoyed returning to the estate setting each evening after our excursions, and then prepared home cooked meals for our family in the guest cottage kitchen. This weekend we traveled to Bar Harbor and supported our son as he participated in the MDI marathon. We also patronized local Blue Hill restaurants and businesses each day during our stay. We will absolutely return to Peter's Hill Guest Cottage for our third visit sometime in the near future, and we're already looking forward to it! Thank you again Francoise & Scott
We stayed for one week in this lovely place. Blue Hill is a perfect location for Maine, close enough for Arcadia NP and also for Deer Isle. Peters Hill guest house is a perfect location in Blue Hill, quiet, but still close enough to Blue Hill itself. Francoise and Scott are very nice and helpfull people who provided us with everything we needed. If one day we can come back to Maine we will definitely go back to their beautifull place. Thanks Tim, Regine and Luka (Lübeck, Germany)
This is a wonderful vacation property. The cottage is charmingly beautiful, immaculately clean and user-friendly. The owners are perfectly helpful, warm and friendly, but wholly unobtrusive. We stayed 11 days, with our 3 teenagers, all of whom shared the upstairs living space with no complaints. Blue Hill is a fun little town. Swimming and kayaking in the harbor (with 2 kayaks provided by the owners, as well as a canoe) is a must, where 4 seals are frequently seen frolicking around. There is a beautiful hike up Blue Hill Mountain a 5-minute drive from the cottage. Try to catch a play put on by the New Surrey Theater Company in the Blue Hill Town Hall. Acadia National Park is a 45-minute drive away. Highly recommend hiking up Cadillac Mountain via the West Face. And you have to see the Lumberjack Show, an easy 30 minute drive away. All of the little towns on the peninsula are also worth visiting. Don't miss the best Mexican restaurant in the Northeast, El El Frijoles, a 15-20 minute drive away. We also had a lovely sail in Acadia, using a local sailing company whose brochure can be found in the cottage. Cannot recommend this property enough to anyone looking for the quintessential Maine summer vacation.

We spent much of our time in Acadia and other parts of Mt. Desert Island, which are easily accessible from the cottage. We hated to leave.
Blue Hill is at the center of the Blue Hill Peninsula with the villages of Surry, Sedgwick, Brooklin, Brooksville and Penobscot minutes away. Buck's Harbor Marine in Brooksville offers sailboat and power boat rentals. Brooklin is the home of the Wooden Boat School. The famous Blue Hill Reversing Falls is just a few miles from the Village center and is a favorite spot for kayakers, offering standing 'tidal' waves for those who wish
to hone their white water skills. If you're sailing and looking for a land base, or meeting up with sailing friends, the Blue HIll (family-oriented) Kollegewidgwok Yatch Club is about a 1 1/2 miles down the road from Peter's Hill Guest Cottage, and offers guest moorings.
Deer Isle is 20 minutes away and Stonington is about 40 minutes.
Bar Harbor and all the wonders of Acadia National Park are 45 minutes away.
The renowned Chamber Music School and Festival at historic Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill offers a summer concert series, and The New Surry Theater presents top rate community productions at our Blue Hill Town Hall. There are dozens of art galleries and artist's studios to visit throughout the Blue Hill Peninsula.
There are way too many things to do and see than we can list here! We do know that Blue Hill and its surrounding communities will engage and entertain you, fill you days, and keep you as busy as you wish. And for those who prefer to simply relax, the Blue Hill Library has a great selection of books to enjoy while just kicking back.
