About Jennifer Gold

We do everything we can to make Casa Ladera a beautiful, comfortable home away from home, and we know you'll love it. We live in Vieques for part of the year, and are very close by in case any need arises. When we're not there, our good friend and property manager is always on call.

Come on down and stay with us, and see why Casa Ladera has been one of the most well-loved places to stay in Vieques for almost ten years!

Jennifer Gold purchased this house in 2004

Why Jennifer Gold chose Vieques Island

Vieques is a special, magical place, with the most beautiful beaches I've seen in all my world travels. It's a tiny island that feels about a million miles from San Juan, and really needs to be experienced to be believed. The perfect palm-fringed white sand beaches, the wild horses roaming around every corner, and the lovely, laid-back island atmosphere, plus some excellent restaurants and fun little beach bars... what's not to love!

What makes this house unique

Casa Ladera boasts a huge beautiful pool, and is just 100 feet (one minute walk) to a secluded beach where you can swim, snorkel, and collect sea glass. The property is bursting with fruit trees, including mangos, bananas, limes, papaya and canepas. Or if you prefer to buy your own fruit, we're just a one-minute drive to the island's largest supermarket! We offer free wireless high-speed internet, A/C in every room, satellite TV with all premium channels, full kitchens including dishwasher and microwave, and more. For beach time, we provide beach chairs, towels and coolers. Pretty much everything you could need for a perfect vacation!

A wonderful getaway by the sea

  • 5 of 5

The unit provided everything that we could have wanted and more and we will likely be back. Set back from the beachfront by 2 lots, there is still a nice seaview from the unit and the pool. The area is perfect for a relaxing getaway and if you want more of a tourist scene, it's only about a 15 minute drive to the other side of the island (where the best swimming beaches are as well). The beach for this unit is gorgeous and worth a sunset stroll every night and there's very few people you have to share with. The unit is well outfitted. While it has two bedrooms, it's probably the best for a couple given the common space is a bit small for more than two. The kitchen is very well equipped-- make sure you visit the fish market down by the ferry dock for fresh fish each day for cooking. We spent a lot of time on the unit's shaded patio during the sunniest parts of the day and also ate most of our daylight meals there. The pool is also great and another place to hang out and eat.

Everything you need on the island at this place!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the casita with my family (2 kids - ages 8 and 2.5) and it was a perfect homebase for us. We had stayed at another location on the island prior to this one too because it wasn't available. This place was much more like what we wanted! It was quiet (almost at the end of the road), a quick walk to the sea glass beach (1 minute), awesome pool with lots of amenities, and comfortable well equipped apartment for our use (including cooler, beach chairs, etc.). We loved the private patio we could sit at and relax. It felt very private. The bathroom is a bit small and dated but it does well enough for a quick shower at the end of the day! The property as a whole is very quiet and private.

Renee, the house manager, was awesome at connecting with us, providing advice, setting up a pack n' play for us, etc. She was really helpful throughout the whole process.

The property is very close to the Avis car rental. We didn't rent from there but if you are looking at a car rental, that'd be the most convenient - you could walk there from the casita.

I would definitely stay here again with my family. I'm curious what the other spaces at the Casa Ladera look like too. The whole property was well kept and just awesome all around.

Paradise

We spent a week at the Casita, and this was the most enjoyable vacation we have ever had.

The property manager helped us out with information on getting to the island. We were met upon arrival and provided with great advice about places to go and things to see during our stay. The property was very clean and cozy, stocked with extra beach chairs and everything needed for cooking. We enjoyed watching iguanas sunbathe from the roof deck, and going for a stroll on the secluded beach just a few steps away from the house. The beach was so close, that we could hear the waves. We had a wonderful time relaxing in the pool after a long day out exploring the island. The only regret we have is that we did not find time to cook out on the grill by the pool, but we will definitely do that next time we go to Vieques!

The check-out was easy, and the refund was processed very quickly. We will come back to the Casita and recommend it to anyone thinking of going to PR!

Everything was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 8 night stay in the Casita, and it was the perfect size for our family of 4. We loved the ease of walking to the store, the Avis office (where we rented our Jeep), and the beach. I'm a runner, and I also found it a very easy starting point for short and beautiful runs around the island. We swam in the pool every morning and night, explored different beaches every day, and ate most meals by the pool or on the rooftop. My kids loved watching the iguanas in the tree and the horses and cranes just over the fence. Everything on the island was within a fun and bumpy 15 minute drive - you'll definitely need to rent a Jeep to experience the island. Renee was an incredible resource throughout our stay, and does such a great job of managing the property and making helpful suggestions to guests. Contrary to a previous reviewer, we spoke with the housekeeper several times when she was cleaning other units on the property, and found her extremely friendly, flexible, and helpful. Between beach towels, chairs, sand toys, board games, a cooler, laundry facilities, and snorkel gear, we really didn't need anything during our stay besides our swimsuits and a few changes of clothes. If we ever make it back to Vieques, we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Excellent property, housekeeper is a nightmare!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at casa ladera 3 times. The property is in excellent conditions, the house has everything you need, just like at home. The location is good and so is the pool. The owner and manager are very reachable and they respond pretty fast. The only problem is the housekeeper. She is a nightmare. She does not respect privacy and gets in and out of the house as she wishes. She never knocks the door and the day before we left she just opened the door and got into the house to tell us we had to be out by ten the next day. The day we left one of us was using the bathroom at 10:05am and she even got into the bathroom!! The she yelled at us because she could not find one of the sheets. It was in another room...

I fully recommend this property, but something has to be done about the housekeeper

I understand is her job cleaning the property, but she should respect privacy and treat guests with respect.

Did not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we stayed at Casa Ladera and as before it did not disappoint. Suffice it to stay that I actually hesitated to write a good review because I don't want other people to know about it since that will only make it harder for us to get a reservation! It's clean, comfortae, has a beautiful chlorine free pool, perfect location, kick-ass AC, secure and safe property and an extremly attentive and accommodating property manager. We can't wait to go back!

Vieques island is only eight miles off the coast of mainland Puerto Rico, but in many ways it feels a world away. It's a beautiful, lush island with an endless selection of secluded and often empty beaches, each with soft white sand and warm turquoise water. Vieques offers charming cafes, restaurants and bars for all tastes and budgets, and a number of fine dining options as well. The main town in Vieques, Isabel Segunda, is colorful and bustling, and the smaller town on the south side, Esperanza, boasts a lively strip of cafes and bars. There are also a few grocery stores where you'll find food and supplies to cook meals in your own kitchen.

In addition to lounging on a beach, you can enjoy incredible snorkeling and diving, kayaking and sailing, fishing, cycling, yoga, massage, and of course the famous bio luminescent bay where you'll witness the beauty and magic of a lagoon glowing in the darkness.

Casa Ladera is located about halfway between the Vieques airport (VQS) and the main town of Isabel Segunda where the ferry comes in. The island's largest supermarket, Supermercado Morales, is just up the street, a one-minute drive or five-minute walk from Casa Ladera.

We are just a short drive to the island's best restaurants, shops and bars. It's a one-minute walk to a lovely secluded beach, known as Sea Glass Beach (or Playa Cofi by the locals) and you're just a few minutes' drive from the famous Vieques beaches which are all on beautiful undeveloped and unspoiled land.

Casa Ladera has the perfect location - close enough to everything important, but quiet and secluded enough to feel like you're away from it all.
