Comfortable luxury at an awesome price – exclusive insider’s guide to Kauai included with stay!
ALOHA: We extend a big Aloha to you, our guests and hope you enjoy our second home as if it was yours. Our condo is appointed as a home not a rental as we spend much of the year here and open it to select guests the balance of the time. We find it ever so comfortable and want you to enjoy it as much as we do so, once your book your stay, we give you our special insider’s guide to the island with local tips and tricks for making the most of your stay in Kauai.
If you are reading this you may already know what a wonderful place the North shore of Kauai is.
Our complex Nihilani lies just a short walk from Queen's bath, the Makai Golf Club, whale watching, Hideaways Beach, and the St. Regis at Princeville Resort. Princeville itself is just a short drive to the gorgeous beaches, great shopping and gourmet restaurants of Hanalei. Further around toward the end of the road lie Haena and the beaches of Lumahai, Tunnels and Ke'e.
GOLF: Between the perennial top five in the state of Hawaii and top 50 in the United States Prince Course and the more user friendly 27 holes of the Makai Golf Club there is a golf outing to suit anyones desire or daring. Both designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr.
TRANSPORTATION: Princeville is about 45 minutes from Lihue Airport. You'll want to rent a car as we have our own garage for parking. If not, a taxi runs about $90/$110.
KID FRIENDLY: When we visit we often come with extended family and find that our condo suits that purpose well. We have a three year old and all of my six siblings all have children so we have made the condo as kid friendly as possible. There are board games, beach toys, DVD/Blue Ray library, PaknPlay, high chair, snorkel equipment, bodyboards, beach mats, toddler and infant toys and baby gates and cabinet locks (if necessary). All of this “gear” is nicely packed away so if you don’t have kids, you would never know it’s there.
LIVING AREA and LOWER LANAI: We find our living area very comfortable with a U-shaped sofa and coffe table facing a 42' HD LCD TV. There is a Blue Ray player and good size library of movies. Giant picture windows open to the lower covered lanai where we enjoy evening outdoor drinks at the teak table that has seating for four or more. Late at night is good star watching as we face away from the rest of the complex and across the way is a large thicket of gorgeous local foliage between us and the next complex. Although we do get the benefit of hearing the calming running water sounds of their extensive entry waterfalls.
DINING AREA and KITCHEN: Leading in from the living space is an 8.5' French farmhouse table with bench seating on one side (helpful for kid seating). There are four barstools around the kitchen island for casual dining and hanging out. Across from the dining area is a buffet that is filled with kid toys, puzzles and board games. There is also a small game table next to the dining room that has checkers, chess, chinese checkers and backgammon built into it.
POOL AREA and BBQ: Nihilani has the most stunning pool area of any condo property on the Island. We love that we are just a short walk away yet just far enough so we never hear any noise from the pool area. That short walk comes in handy when you are grilling also!

About Tim Smith
In 2001 my wife and I met while she was vacationing here from New York. A year later I moved to New York to be with her provided that we move somewhere with surfable coastline and NO WINTER before the start of the third winter. She kept her end of the bargain and then some. Now we are in Marina del Rey, CA. In 2005 we returned and had our 'surfer wedding' on the beach at Pinetrees and the reception at the restaurant we met at that I used to manage. Years later after my Mother died of Mesothelioma, the small settlement we received allowed us to fulfill our dream of owning a place on the North Shore of Kauai - the most beautiful place on earth.
Tim Smith purchased this Condo in 2009
Why Tim Smith chose Princeville
When we bought in 2009 we looked at every property available in Princeville. Nihilani was the newest and best designed property around. The unit we found was barely lived in and only a few years old. Every other place we looked at looked so lived in and worn down, but this place was perfect. The upstairs downstairs layout makes it really feel like a single family home.
What makes this Condo unique
Unlike other rentals, ours is furnished and decorated as a second home, not a rental unit. You will find the first class furnishings, kitchenware and decor that we enjoy on our many vacations to Princeville. Our unit is perfect for young children and comes stocked with a PaknPlay, baby gates, and a strap on high chair as well as infant and toddler toys. Rainy day? No problem, avail yourself to our extensive DVD/Blue Ray collection, board games or reading library.

Peaceful, quiet, relaxing!
We had a wonderful vacation on Kauai! Tim and Julie's home was spacious, clean, and comfortable. There was plenty of room for six adults and one baby. We spent the days exploring as much as we could of Kauai, and when we returned each evening, we felt as though we had arrived back "home." Tim's insider tips were so helpful for shopping, farmer's markets, and sightseeing. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the pool and house more! We would love to return again one day. Kauai is a beautiful island, and this home was a perfect spot for our vacation!
Thanks for the review. So glad you enjoyed your vacation. Kauai is so magical!
Beautiful home, complex and great location!
Either I didn’t pay attention to the condo’s ad or it doesn’t mention the sq feet, but the condo was huge! We had two families - two couples, four kids (ages 4, 3, 3 and 1) and the condo was perfect for us. Loads of space, beautiful complex (we loved the pool) and very handy location to some amazing beaches. If it weren’t for us flying to a second island today, we would have packed far less stuff for the baby as the condo had all the necessities but unfortunately our next condo doesn’t have as much. Condo was homey and very nicely decorated. Carpet is a bit worn but I promise you if hotel carpets were beige instead of dark with abstract patterns, they’d look much worse! The owner was easy to deal with and always answered messages/questions promptly. We had no issues during our stay other than the microwave handle looking a little untrustworthy - either the owner or last renters used tape to hold it on so we just pried it open with our fingers from the bottom which wasn’t a big deal as we only had to use it once. Still a 5+ star rental. If we are ever lucky enough to come back to Kauai, we would check for Tim’s condo’s availability.
Perfect stay in Princeville
The house was spacious and accommodated all of us nicely. Great kitchen, ideal for a group meal prep and easy to clean! We also appreciated having access to beach gear (snorkel, boogie board and chairs). Thanks for a fabulous stay!
Fantastic location and property is beautiful.
This rental had all the amenities of home, really appreciate the toys and family items for use. Would recommend for any families traveling herr
Tim was great to work with! The house is great for a family. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our family.
We was very impressed with the house. It had everything you could possible need for cooking and going to the beach with the family. Our grandson had plenty of toys to keep him entertained. There was plenty of spices, that must have been from other guest. We had our own, but if you needed some spices it was there.
The only thing the kitchen does not having is a mixer, which I assume is the norm. We stayed a week at the Bai Hai, across the road, and they did not have a mixer. So assume that is the norm, in the kitchens at resorts there.
Our bed was great, but guest room beds was not so comfortable, which again I assume is norm there. Because all the beds at Bai Hai was very hard. We was so tired from sight seeing, and going to the beach, not sure I really cared.
We really enjoyed our stay and loved the area. The house is across from pool area with grills, close to store for quick items, and just beautiful grounds.
There is a balcony off master and one of guest rooms. Nice place to have your morning coffee or breakfast.
Tim is very helpful with plenty of info for the area, the best stores, best sight seeing, and there are books to look at in their book collection.
I can not say enough about how great the house is. I would highly recommend it.
Thanks so much Tim and your family.
Whale watching nearby. Only a short walk to Queen Emma's Bath, St. Regis Hotel, Westin, Hideaways Beach and Hanalei Beach at the St Regis Hotel. Close to the amazing Hanalei Bay and world class surfing, paddling, kayaking, fishing, sightseeing, hiking etc.
