Kauai Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

Comfortable luxury at an awesome price – exclusive insider’s guide to Kauai included with stay!

ALOHA: We extend a big Aloha to you, our guests and hope you enjoy our second home as if it was yours. Our condo is appointed as a home not a rental as we spend much of the year here and open it to select guests the balance of the time. We find it ever so comfortable and want you to enjoy it as much as we do so, once your book your stay, we give you our special insider’s guide to the island with local tips and tricks for making the most of your stay in Kauai.

If you are reading this you may already know what a wonderful place the North shore of Kauai is.

Our complex Nihilani lies just a short walk from Queen's bath, the Makai Golf Club, whale watching, Hideaways Beach, and the St. Regis at Princeville Resort. Princeville itself is just a short drive to the gorgeous beaches, great shopping and gourmet restaurants of Hanalei. Further around toward the end of the road lie Haena and the beaches of Lumahai, Tunnels and Ke'e.

GOLF: Between the perennial top five in the state of Hawaii and top 50 in the United States Prince Course and the more user friendly 27 holes of the Makai Golf Club there is a golf outing to suit anyones desire or daring. Both designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr.

TRANSPORTATION: Princeville is about 45 minutes from Lihue Airport. You'll want to rent a car as we have our own garage for parking. If not, a taxi runs about $90/$110.

KID FRIENDLY: When we visit we often come with extended family and find that our condo suits that purpose well. We have a three year old and all of my six siblings all have children so we have made the condo as kid friendly as possible. There are board games, beach toys, DVD/Blue Ray library, PaknPlay, high chair, snorkel equipment, bodyboards, beach mats, toddler and infant toys and baby gates and cabinet locks (if necessary). All of this “gear” is nicely packed away so if you don’t have kids, you would never know it’s there.

LIVING AREA and LOWER LANAI: We find our living area very comfortable with a U-shaped sofa and coffe table facing a 42' HD LCD TV. There is a Blue Ray player and good size library of movies. Giant picture windows open to the lower covered lanai where we enjoy evening outdoor drinks at the teak table that has seating for four or more. Late at night is good star watching as we face away from the rest of the complex and across the way is a large thicket of gorgeous local foliage between us and the next complex. Although we do get the benefit of hearing the calming running water sounds of their extensive entry waterfalls.

DINING AREA and KITCHEN: Leading in from the living space is an 8.5' French farmhouse table with bench seating on one side (helpful for kid seating). There are four barstools around the kitchen island for casual dining and hanging out. Across from the dining area is a buffet that is filled with kid toys, puzzles and board games. There is also a small game table next to the dining room that has checkers, chess, chinese checkers and backgammon built into it.

POOL AREA and BBQ: Nihilani has the most stunning pool area of any condo property on the Island. We love that we are just a short walk away yet just far enough so we never hear any noise from the pool area. That short walk comes in handy when you are grilling also!

About Tim Smith

In 2001 my wife and I met while she was vacationing here from New York. A year later I moved to New York to be with her provided that we move somewhere with surfable coastline and NO WINTER before the start of the third winter. She kept her end of the bargain and then some. Now we are in Marina del Rey, CA. In 2005 we returned and had our 'surfer wedding' on the beach at Pinetrees and the reception at the restaurant we met at that I used to manage. Years later after my Mother died of Mesothelioma, the small settlement we received allowed us to fulfill our dream of owning a place on the North Shore of Kauai - the most beautiful place on earth.

Tim Smith purchased this condo in 2009

Why Tim Smith chose Kauai

When we bought in 2009 we looked at every property available in Princeville. Nihilani was the newest and best designed property around. The unit we found was barely lived in and only a few years old. Every other place we looked at looked so lived in and worn down, but this place was perfect. The upstairs downstairs layout makes it really feel like a single family home.

What makes this condo unique

Unlike other rentals, ours is furnished and decorated as a second home, not a rental unit. You will find the first class furnishings, kitchenware and decor that we enjoy on our many vacations to Princeville. Our unit is perfect for young children and comes stocked with a PaknPlay, baby gates, and a strap on high chair as well as infant and toddler toys. Rainy day? No problem, avail yourself to our extensive DVD/Blue Ray collection, board games or reading library.

Island home away from home.

This lovely Nihilani property was everything we'd hoped and more. It's more spacious than it looks in pictures. The bedrooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. We were on the island for our daughter's wedding at the St Regis so we were conveniently located. The proximity to the pool was also very nice. Unlike other properties we saw this has a two car garage which was handy as our adult daughter and friend also had a car. Tim was great to work with and responded quickly to emails. We look forward to staying here again.

This was my 9th time to Hawaii so I have fortunately been able to stay at a variety of homes on my travels. This house is in a great location. Princeville is so close to truly one of the most special places in all of Hawaii, Hanalei.

Within the large neighborhood of princeville you will find fantastic views, great snorkeling, golf for those who enjoy that as well as all of your grocery needs. As far as the actual house rental I am a bit more critical. I would like to first say that it is a nice house. There is lots of potential. There is also plenty of room, a garage, a patio as well as deck. It is conviently located near the pool.

Now for the more critical. In our opinion the house could use some updating. The carpets did not feel clean because they seemed old. There have been some obvious updates but the house as a whole is outdated. The main shower I'm guessing is original to the house and it shows. Old is a word that often came up. The toaster oven for instance has to be one of the first models ever made. All of the kitchen items (pots, pans, knives, glasses, etc.) old and worn. Nothing was in good shape. My over all feel is that the owners have stocked the house with garage sale items that have been passed around many times. That also applies to the towels and blankets. I am sorry to say this to the owners. But my advice to you is that if you want to truly compete with the hundreds of really nice vacation rentals on Kauai you need to invest more on the interior of the home.

In addition, in my opinion it it poor business to charge extra for air conditioning. It is a business expense on your part. Resturants do not charge extra if you want to sit in a cooler booth. A resort does not charge you if you want to swim on the heated side of the pool. Yes I know you stated this up front and on this particular trip it was on the warm/ muggy side so we gladly paid the $15 a day for the use of the air conditioner. Its just that on principle I feel that it is nickel and diming. It is also an example of how it appears that you are wanting to offer a vacation rental on the cheap.

Now for some less critical. We did appreciate how your house was well stocked for children. And it over all was clean.

We spent two weeks at this property and it was better than we had even hoped for! The condo is spacious and fit 7 of us easily. We didn't have toddlers with us, but this is a perfect location if you do--there are toys, high chairs, etc. for small children. They layout is great and the location is central to so many places on the north shore. Tim's guide to island was great and we took a lot of recommendations from him! Tim communicated quickly with any questions before our stay and we will definitely stay here again!

Wonderful and relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying here April 11-25, 2016. There were 5 adults and 3 young children, 4, 2,1 years and the condo never felt crowded. Well equipped with everything we needed, child gates, booster seat with tray, toys for home, bath and beach. Kitchen was well stocked and easy to use. We cooked all our breakfasts and dinners. Large dining room table with seating for all.

Beds were comfy and the master lanai became the gathering spot for morning coffee and people watching. Good WIFI connection. Pool and BBQ are very close and convenient. Everyone loved the hot tub. The condo is in a great location and easy to find.

Tim was very good to work with and responds quickly to inquiries.

We really enjoyed our stay and felt at home.

Great location, great value, well equipped - would definitely stay again.

The condo was well located within the complex - close enough to the pool and bbq to be very convenient, but it did not feel like a high traffic area. The condo itself was well equipped - we made use of the baby gates and booster seat, play pen, beach toys and boogie boards. It was great for our small kids. Kitchen was well stocked with glassware, utensils, everything we thought to look for. Furniture was nice and in good shape. Loved the patio and the pool. Layout is great and overall a very nice space. We felt like it was a very good value for what was provided, especially to some other condos nearby that we looked at. Pictures give a very accurate depiction of the condo and pool.

Tim was easy to deal with. Would definitely recommend renting this place to others.

Great accommodation… a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

The Smith's have made this a most comfortable and artistically pleasing holiday rental. Every detail of the house is pleasing to the eye. It is spacious with high ceilings and lots of natural light. It is adorned with artwork and objet d'art to make it seem like you are living in a home, not a rental property. All appliances work perfectly (though I recommend a new toaster!) and the bathrooms are to die for! The king sized bed in the master bedroom is very comfortable; the other two beds are firmer. All rooms are decorated in a most pleasing way. The location is perfect: close to the pool/barbeque area, close to the main Princeville road which runs by the Makai Golf Club and close to the two bigger hotels (St Regis and Westin). The former is recommended for an expensive Americano or sunset glass of wine on the deck overlooking Hanalei Bay! Hanalei and its beach are 10 minutes away down the hill and Anini Beach is 15 minutes south. Other great beaches are past Hanalei or south os Anini. Boogie boards, deck chairs, beach umbrella etc are all provided for you to enjoy the beaches. We recommend Anini for snorkelling (lots of turtles if you are lucky) and Hanalei for surfing and boarding. Hanalei is a funky little town with restaurants, coffee shops and stores to whet your appetite. Be sure to get some superb fresh fish from the small market as you enter the town!

This was our second time in this area, having previously stayed at a Wyndham across the road. By far, this condo/house was the best deal. Great service was provided. Excellent cleaning service. The Smiths have created a gem and we hope to be back again, some day!
