About Esther Dennis

My wife and I bought this house in 2007. We enjoy the lake house and spending time on the water. Our daughter, Millie even learned to swim at this house. We know that you and your family will love it just as much as we do.

Why Esther Dennis chose Lake Murray

We love being on the lake! This house offers wooded privacy because we're sitting on 2 acres of land. This allows us to take full advantage of the large back deck where we grill out and have family gatherings. It's only a short walk to the beach front and private dock where we can kayak, fish, jet ski, or boat. So many options give us the flexibility to spend our time doing what we love with who we love. It's such a beautiful, peaceful getaway for our family. We have easy access to I-26 and it's convenient to local restaurants.

What makes this house unique

Staying at the Purple Martin Hideaway offers our guest access to things they might not get at other vacation homes, like a wii station setup, satellite tv, and other electronics that keep kids happy. We also have fishing rods and kayaks available for the more adventurous guests. We want your trip to be memorable and fun! We also offer the option to rent a jet ski or pontoon boat. With the private dock you'll want to spend as much time on the water as possible!

Great for a Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had three properties on the lake for our reunion and this one was the most used because the facilities were the best. There was plenty of room for preparing and eating meals, lounging on the deck, playing games inside at night, using the beach and the use of the water craft at no additional cost was a clincher.

Wonderful place for a family vacation at the lake!

  • 5 of 5

Since no one member of our family lives in the same place, we gather each year for a week together. We were tired of the beach, so we looked for something different this year. We thought we'd try a lake vacation, and we are glad we did!!! Our family includes a baby and a 2-year-old, and this house includes a sandy little beach area and some outside (and inside) toys. The water is close to the house, so we could go back and forth from the water easily. I would highly recommend using the boats----we used them all! The kayaks are so nice for an early morning or evening cruise and are a great workout. There are a good variety of life vests in the garage as well as floats, etc., to use in the water. The only kind of vest I didn't see there was one for a little baby. The huge deck is great, and we ate outside several nights. We also made s'mores in the fire pit one evening. The owners are wonderful to work with; they are very responsive and kind. This was a wonderful family vacation!

Excellent Lake Murray Rental Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at the lake. The house is well appointed and in excellent condition. The wave runner had a minor mechanical problem that was addressed quickly by the owner. The house is in a great location with a wonderful cove for sking and tubing close by. Lake Murray is a very nice and clean lake for all types of water activities. We certainly plan to rent this home again in the future.

Great week at the Lake

  • 5 of 5

First of all...the owners were responsive on any/all issues as well as compassionate and forgiving. When we found out that the owners have multiple properties we feared that any issues would not be quickly addressed (not true) or that when we had a miss-hap that there would be no leniency (also not true).

The lake was great and although we failed to catch any fish, that was not the focus of our time. We spent most of our time on the watercraft and swimming in the cove. We did not have the best weather, but that's mother nature. The cove remained quiet and perfectly suited to just hang out. The fire pit was actually the highlight for our two boys (10 years old and under). Having the large deck and dock will keep you busy outside. The wifi was strong and quick. Television stations were plentiful. Kitchen was well stocked and we didn't want for anything. Everything worked as it should have. The selection of kayaks plus jet ski and pontoon left us feeling like we conquered Lake Murray (we also brought our own floats and inflatables).

Would not have changed our trip but good to know:

1. It's a good distance to the water from the house. There is a gravel driveway that will get you down there if you must drive. It is a bit of a grade but we had no problem walking it multiple times a day. When we had a full cooler or day's worth of supplies, we were happy to have a car option to help carry the load.

2. If you plan to spend most of your time inside, the couches aren't the most comfortable and the living room could get cramped if you have a full house. This was not an issue for us...we only had 2 adults/2 kids there full time and 2 add'l adults part time. Besides, we were there for the lake and were only inside when it rained or when we were exhausted. (all the other rooms were plenty big even if you were at capacity)

3. Gasoline for the watercraft. Let me be clear, the owners provide high-end gas cans which provides you an opportunity to save money by being self-service. The gas station is close so the drive is not an issue. All that being said, you will be surprised how much gas is used having fun! Multiple trips take a lot of work, the gas cans are tricky to operate alone and when it is all done you may wish you just pulled into a marina and paid someone else.

Wonderful place! Wonderful lake! THank you for a great visit.

  • 5 of 5

This house is wonderful! We stayed here recently for a family reunion. 3 families stayed in the house. The house is stocked with all the amenities you will need. The older kids LOVED the jet skis, the men loved the boat and the women loved to hang out in the water and visit. I really appreciated the kayaks as well. It allowed me to get a little exercise. The AC works really well; however, if we turned it to auto the downstairs would stay fairly cool, but the upstairs room would become sweltering hot. So, had to keep the AC on most of the time. The house is really nice! However, the Lake is the real jewel here and all the toys that allow you to really see and play in the lake! I would definitely stay here again and hope I get the opportunity. The ONLY bad thing I can mention is that when we arrived, we found tons of dog poop on the dock and in the sand down by the lake. Obviously the previous renters had a dog or dogs and allowed it to poop all over the place without cleaning up. I had to spend some time scooping poop the first day of my vacation so the kids could play in the sand and frankly so that even the adults could walk around without stepping in it (yes, it was that bad!).

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay at our Lake Murray home. Thank you for taking care of the house and property while you were there. We also love the lake and relaxing at the house and by the water. I wanted to address two of your comments. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is a problem at the home. The upstairs air can be fixed with the simple switch of a button that occasionally gets knocked off during storms. As for the poop by the water, I'm confident it was not dog poop. We have a strict no pet policy, and no one was staying at the house prior to your arrival, and I doubt you found poop anywhere other than the waterfront. I have no doubt there was poop, but it was left by Mother Nature's pets, the geese. A small flock of about 20 geese will swim the coves looking for open beach areas to hangout for the day. They're beautiful swimming on the water, not so beautiful after they leave your waterfront. Typically they are not a problem, but since the waterfront area was people free for a day or two before your arrival, they must have found a resting spot on our shoreline. When I checked the house two days prior to your arrival, the geese had not left their tracks. So sorry for the inconvenience and so glad it didn't ruin your stay. We look forward to renting to you and your family again.

Family trip with old friends and kids

  • 5 of 5

We recently vacationed here with some childhood friends and there respective kids. This place is an absolute blast with every amenity you could ask for. The pontoon boat was perfect and the location in the cove was perfect. The kayaks were great and the house was set up very well. A large back deck allowed ample hang time after the kids went down. Highly recommended!
