We purchased a lake front cottage on 1 1/4 acres over 25 years ago. A few years later we were fortunate to purchase the abutting 20 acres. We moved the original cottage and made way for our retirement home at the edge of the water. Over the years the cottage ( VRBO listing # 408266 ) has had many improvements and now it's a comefortable 3 bedroom rseasonal rental cottage. We have separate docks and private sitting areas for both the house and the cottage.
We've added mature plantings and perennial gardens around the both the house and cottage to increase the natural beauty and privacy.
Our property is located 3 miles from US rt 1 on a private dead end road. The house sits on the east side of the lake looking directly west for maximum sun all day and fantastic sunsets in the evening. Loons and eagles are a daily sight and if you very quiet you can see the occasional deer, fox, and owl, and that damn groundhog in the vegetable garden!
Depending on the season, your welcome to pick fresh vegetables from our garden such as herbs, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers etc.
We are now able to offer both the front house and the rental cottage for larger family gatherings
Other than the privacy, the wildlife and the beauty of the lake, to me the best thing is when the phone rings....it's usually the wrong number. Total relaxation...... that's the best!
The house was beautiful! The kids absolutely loved being on the lake and learning to kayak and canoe. We had a wonderful vacation... visited many beautiful locations... and enjoyed many relaxing sunsets on the lake (and sunrise on the lake for some!) Lots of wildlife to enjoy... deer (including a white deer), fox, wild turkeys, and of course, the loons! Thank you, Rusty, for spending time with us answering all of our questions about the area. It was our first trip to Maine and we hope to return again!
This is a wonderful lakefront home where my family enjoyed the most beautiful sunsets over the lake. The house was spotless and had one of the most well equipped kitchens I have ever seen in a rental home. The home is on a very quiet dead end road where we enjoyed long walks. Mother Nature even provided us with some snow for perfect post card pictures from the back deck. The owner, Rusty, took great care of us and quickly answered any questions we had about the house or area during our stay. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, well maintained vacation spot than this is your place.
We're happy to supply 1 canoe and 2 kayaks so you may explore Damariscotta Lake. We want you to be safe and it IS the law so you MUST always use life jackets when you use the boats. The lake is patrolled by Maine rangers, if you don't have the right equipment in the boats they will fine you. :-(
We have a generator that switches automaticly just in case we loose power.
