About this property

Peaceful & Secluded Retreat House on the island of Hvar

Peaceful and secluded Retreat House Kod Kapetana is surrounded by stunning nature and has an amazing view. We planted many plants and trees that create a beautiful Mediterranean atmosphere and allow for complete relaxation. Our guests can unwind in this tranquility and find their inner peace and connect with nature and themselves. Our beautiful house was built in 1903, by my grandfather. This house is a family house whose roots grow on love, tradition, and hard work. It is traditionally built from stones that were collected from our land. Every stone had to be specially carved to fit and molded together into the house. This house was renovated in 2020, with an intention to serve as a retreat to guests who respect nature, enjoy the beautiful views, and need some peaceful and meaningful time away. The house has a free parking area.
Our property features two completely separated apartments. This apartment has a private entrance and a large terrace with a beautiful view. On the first floor of this apartment there is an open space kitchen and living room and access to our balcony. The kitchen features dishwasher, oven, coffee maker, microwave, and a toaster and a dining area that can accommodate 8 people. Right next to our kitchen is a living room area with a fireplace, TV, and the comfiest sofas ever. All three master bedrooms are located on the second floor of this apartment and provide a peaceful oasis with beautiful views for you to enjoy. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with a walk-in shower, provided towels, toiletries, and bathrobes. In one of our master bedrooms, a queen bed can be separated into two single beds. This apartment also has a private deck area where you can enjoy the view and a porch area with the table set up where you can also enjoy having your meals. We are a family who decided to restore our beautiful family house and share it with you. We are outgoing and friendly & want you to experience Hvar at its best. Our family is large, and we like good people, food, wine, nature, sport, kids and pets! We are also proud owners of a lovely seafood restaurant called Kod Kapetana. We would be delighted to create a tasting menu and have our chef cook for you in the house per your request. Our restaurant serves only traditional dishes and fresh fish as we developed a special connection with the locals.

As a family, we aspire to make this house ecologically friendly and efficient, and our solar panels are a part of that project. We are currently working on making a small vineyard in the area of the house which would enable us to make our own wine, reserved only for our guests and locals.

Let us know if there is anything you need, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful stay.

Why they chose this property

Our property is located in the eco-etno village of Velo Grablje. Velo Grablje has multiple trails and roads that you can enjoy during your stay. A few of the trails with take you to the most amazing views of our island and the coast. Velo Grablje is an Eco-Etno village traditionally know for lavender festivals and very lovely and friendly locals that will make your stay even more beautiful. Velo Grablje has around 10 residents, a post office, a church, and a lavender distillery right next to our house. This village was one of the largest producers of lavender in the 70's and was producing around 3% of the world's lavender. After three bushfires, the residents decided to rely more on the other products and give more attention to tourism so most of them moved to city of Hvar. Nowadays, there is more and more lavender being planted as the locals seek to relive their village and preserve tradition. There is a nice local restaurant only 15 minutes’ walk away. The village is also rich with herbs such as rosemary, oregano, immortelle and similar.

What makes this property unique

Our beautiful house was built in 1903, by my grandfather. This house is a family house whose roots grow on love, tradition and hard work.

It is traditionally build from stones that were collected from our land. Every stone had to be specially carved to fit and molded together into the house.

During 1960 and 70's, the small village of Grablje was one of the biggest producers of lavender and generated around 3% of the world lavender production. As the generations grew older, there was more interest in tourism and a few bush fires destroyed the lavender business. At that time, our family moved to Hvar to be closer to the city. However, this house was always our safe place, a place where childhood memories and the magic of nature mixed to create meaningful memories.

This property was completely renovated in 2020, with an intention to serve as a retreat to guests who respect nature, enjoy the beautiful views and need some peaceful and meaningful time away.

Almost everything you find here is family owned or bought from people who shared special love for these items. My wife carved her love into decorating our house and making it feel like home away. My wife’s father was a Croatian singer Toma Bebic who criticized the urban life and talked about going back to nature and bettering our life harmony. As such, in this house you will find some beautiful items that her family owned and that have a special energy and meaning for us as a family.
