Water front three bedroom home with large deck and private pier on the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The home has been completely renovated and is now being offered for vacation rental. We have king sized beds in two bedrooms and a queen in the other as well as a sofa bed in the family room. Also a twin in one of the bedrooms with a king.
The home sits outside the charming town of Onancock, Virginia which was chartered by the British in 1680 and upon whose waters Captain John Smith traveled. In Onancock you will find several fine restaurants, galleries, bakery, shops, movie theatre and museum.
Please see the attached links to the web sites for Onancock and the Eastern Shore of Virginia for more information on the area.
This is a perfect setting for family vacations on the water---ideal for boating, fishing, crabbing, hunting, birding and exploring. Comfortable home with all the conveniences. Deep Creek and the retreat are located on the Bay side of the Delmarva peninsula. A short drive across the peninsula provides access to the Atlantic Ocean for bathing, beachcombing and fishing in Chincoteague. Ocean City, Maryland and Virginia Beach are also easy day trips.
Bring your boat, charter one or rent locally. There is a marina close to the house. Plus we have a canoe and kayak that you are welcome to use. Also there are several public boat ramps within easy reach.
In the Spring and Summer there is a boat that leaves from the Onancock harbor going to Tangier Island that sits in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. There are only a handful of cars on Tangier with travel most often by golf cart or foot. Several wonderful family style restaurants await visitors to Tangier Island. A fun excursion for all.
If interested in the beauty of nature both land and sea you will find that a visit to the Eastern Shore of Virginia is one that you will remember for years to come.
Please contact us via e-mail with any questions. We will respond promptly. Many thanks for looking at our listing.

THE PENINSULA IS 70 MILES LONG AND CONNECTS WITH THE MAINLAND ON THE SOUTH END VIA THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE AND TUNNEL (17.6 MILES IN LENGTH) BRINGING YOU TO VIRGINIA BEACH. WE LIVE IN THE AREA AND ACQUIRED THIS PROPERTY IN 2010 AND HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT EVER SINCE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE NIGHTLIFE, GLITZ AND GLAMOUR OF A RESORT TOWN THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!. The Owner purchased this house in 2010

TO FAMILIES LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATE TO THE OCEAN SCENE IN RESORTS SUCH AS VIRGINIA BEACH AND OCEAN CITY AS WELL AS HUNTERS, BIRDERS AND FISHERMEN.
OUR GUESTS WILL GET TO SEE A PART OF THE COUNTRY THAT MOST HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED. WHILE NOT FAR FROM ALL OF THE CONVENIENCES OF MODERN LIFE YOU ARE FAR ENOUGH REMOVED TO ENJOY THE LAND AND SEA OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AREA.
My husband & I have stayed at many vacation homes/cabins. For the price of this rental you get a lot, I feel this place has all we are looking for. We have come here since the summer of 2012 on several vacations.
We like the seclusion and the bay access.
We have stayed at vacation homes before that were walking distance from the Ocean (almost oceanside). One placed required a security deposit & ended up keeping a portion of ours because we had badly shedding dogs at the time & place required extra cleaning. The other place did not include bedding, towels or even 1 sheet of tp left from previous renters. And the second place was in Kill Devil & the grounds were over taken by killer spiked little cacti.
We've stayed in cottages on a lake, one did not supply linens & was a highly handy man special repairs, this place also required the tenant clean before leaving, they did not employ a cleaning crew. The other was not all that clean & was very rustic. Beds were very uncomfortable, but you get what you pay for. I love having access to the lakes, but overall, did not feel I got my money's worth.
Love to stay in hotels and have much higher expectations when we do, but we can't take our dogs with us and ends up being a lot more money.
It does pain us to see how other vacationers have left the place. The cleaning crew only takes care of minimum things. I believe many tenants showed little respect to another's property and did not consider the following tenants.
All in all the rental is a great value and many invaluable memories can be made here. So we will continue to vacation here as long as we are able.
This is only a true review for any future renters' sake. This property is for guys or a family who do not mind dirty stay.
The kayaks, canoe, and crabbing was a life savoring for my family, - we did love being out on the dock and all.
The property was very worn out and smelled terrible when we got there.it is just that it was not taken care and literally most of things were Not working well. It needs a major repair, clean
The kitchen wares were rusted or broken and beds were all very old and dirty. Thankfully, we brought our own sheets and light blankets, so, we did not use any of the bedding etc. The bathrooms were smelly and just plainly not clean. It was very difficult to use the shower or restroom etc. I am sorry to write like this, but if you or your family members are moderately clean, then this is not a place for you. No one complained during our stay because we are not a spoiled family and also we did appreciate outside activities, but I would imagine that it could have been nice that if the outdoors were maintained a little bit( came to cut the very long grass around 6 am on our departure day...) and the house be fixed up.
It was very hard to cook and using the shower and etc. was not pleasant. Sleeping was very uncomfortable. I would have enjoyed more if it was an outdoor camp(then, we would have expected and equipped for that.)
Well, I am sure the owner is very nice and I do not mean to do any harm against the owners, but I just want to warn those renters who are expecting a moderate clean and equipped, updated, maintained house rental, this is far from it!( and also all the crackers in the basket were with the dates expired in 2014, now it is 2016 August. Some of my kids ate without knowing, -not a big deal for us and so, we threw them away.), I guess I never have been to a property like this and did not know what to make of this.
However , we did love the water and crabbing. Even though we are adventures, it was not a comfortable and my 16 yr old daughter who is very athletic and tough was really looking forward to leaving this place(She and her sis actually slept in the van on the last night...and it was same for me. Sorry about that, but this was just how I felt...
Mike, if you are not able to up keep or clean this place, I totally understand, but I think some of the renters should know what to expect...it is for campers who are ok only to eat out and not be able to shower, and not a comfortable sleep and be prepared for them.
My family and I were searching for a retreat on the Eastern Shore to cover the wide variety of ages and activity abilities of our group. Our accommodating host, Mike's, home fit that bill and more! My family included my home-bound mother that wanted to sit on the deck and bird watch, to my teenage sons that I couldn't keep inside if I tried! I didn't have to at this sweet retreat! The home boasts a canoe and two kayaks to use at your pleasure along with a crab pot to set out to catch your dinner for the night! Along with crabs, we also caught our share of fish for the 3 nights that we stayed! You can even cook them on the big grill/burner and steamer right on the deck! The sleeping accommodations worked fine for my family. It was great to have the extra beds in the bedrooms. My 9 year old daughter loved sleeping in her own bed in our room. Our mom took the down-stairs bedroom, as she does not do stairs anymore. Something that is not mentioned in the info for the home is that there is a ramp for the house as well as stairs. I am not sure about recommending it for a wheelchair, but it would very easily accommodate a walker. My mother-in-law found it very easy to enter the house via the ramp instead of taking the stairs. My kids were pleasantly surprised to find that we had Wi-Fi and satellite TV. We took a day trip over to Assateague and the ponies happened to be visible on our way through Chincoteague! We got to take many pictures right from the car where we pulled over! That was a huge treat for us and will be talked about for a very long time to come!! It was a great little ride over to the beach at Assateague and Chincoteague. We wanted to stay an extra night because we felt like we hadn't enjoyed the cottage enough! Mike answers his emails promptly. He was very flexible and so relaxed about making our plans work. Thank you Mike! We hope to get back very soon!!
Had a wonderful mini-vacation with the family! Great views, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, canoeing! The owners are very responsive and accommodating, even mailing an item we had left behind and reimbursing us for something we'd bought.
We had a great time! Mike is a very welcoming host who helped make our vacation wonderful from beginning to end. We loved the house and the deck and the dock. Sunrises, nature, peace and a great family get-together. We look forward to visiting again!
We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning. We only live about a hour away, but wanted to vacation someplace close. It was like an escape for us, easy to get to, hard to leave. We were greeted with the most wonderful breeze and all the windows and screen doors open in the house. Mike the owner was a pleasure to work with and responds very quickly, the rental contract is straight forward with no hidden fees!! And i like the comment about if something gets broken, they understand because accidents happen. How often do your hear that.
My aunt who went with us was diagnosed with cancer this time last year, so this past year has been a tough time. She said in her whole life she has only been to once place she didn't want to leave, and now she found a second. She said being on the water, with the view and the breeze was so therapeutic. And she didn't think about doctors or treatments while she was there. She had never kayaked before and was excited to have checked it off her bucket list.
Being in the kayaks was so relaxing. I taught my 7 year old to kayak and I tucked my almost 3 year old in the boat with me and she absolutely loved it. We took the whole family out in the canoe and found a little beach that the kids loved just across the way, they swam with all the minnows. The water temperature was amazing and OMG the breeze.
The dock was so nice and easy to launch the kayaks from. The crabbing was a first for me and my kids, and arriving the first day and actually catching crabs with chicken necks was so cool. I wish i could share my pictures of the beautiful views and fun times we had.
Doughnut lovers beware, there is a little Shop called the corner bakery, with the most amazing fresh handmade mouth watering donuts ever. Only a 15 minute drive, to downtown, with cute shops and good eats. Yummy ice cream shop too. But oh lord the Doughnuts. Cape Charles is also about a 45 minute drive and has a wonderful beach perfect for young kids.
We truly didn't want to leave.
