Loved our vacation in Moosehead Lake

  • 5 of 5

We loved our vacation in Maine and the house was great. It sits at the end of a dead end so there really isn't traffic. We were able to leave our dog off her leash and not worry that a car would hit her. It was an enjoyable walk to the other end of the street and you can walk to Maynard's and have dinner or breakfast. The kids loved using the bikes and we all went boating. The best part of the morning was sitting on the deck and enjoying breakfast overlooking the river. My husband fished from the yard every day. The house was clean and the perfect size for our family.

Visit Recap

  • 4 of 5

My rating is the result of what transpired during our stay, not the result of any activity of the owner or the Higgins Realty. My husband became ill the day of arrival so we cut short our stay by 2 days. Bill visited us on arrival was cordial and provided some interesting things to do;, moreover, Tom a closeneighbor was especially friendly and accommodating. Some suggestions for consideration would be adding a bedroom mirror, screen doors to the deck and front door and possibly adding a 2 way hand radio given the sporadic internet and cell access in the remote areas. For example we traveled Northern Road which is remote with no I net nearly the entire way. We will consider returning next season.

The Rockwood, Moosehead Lake Region, offers one of the best experiences in Northern Maine. Nestled in the heart of the best land locked salmon and trout fishing in the State. The region is the gateway to vast wilderness lands offering excellent hunting, canoeing, ice fishing, kayaking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. If you like hiking or playing golf, Mt. Kineo is definitely a place you don't want to miss. The golf course is one of the oldest courses in New England, built in 1880's and offers 9 to 18 holes at a very modest rate. The mountain has some very scenic hiking trails for all abilities. Daily shuttles from the Rockwood Public Boat Landing (7 days a week). Other local activities that are available - guided fishing and hunting trips, snowmobile rentals and guided tours, ATV rentals and even local seaplane rides. White water rafting trips run daily within 45 minutes from Rockwood all summer long.
