Owner / Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2002
The property is beautiful and spacious. The space described was accurate as far as # of bedrooms, bathrooms and gathering areas. The downstairs was a great space for kids to unwind, play games and give the parents some space to socialize on their own. The kitchen had all the amenities you would need, it's slightly outdated, but everything worked and was clean! Fire place with all the pre-cut wood was amazing, used it every night. Deck is gorgeous and would have loved cushions for the outdoor furniture.
A few improvements. We were really excited to use the hot tub post 14er hike, but the smell when you turned it on was unpleasant. So no one used the hot tub, not even the kids, it just wasn't clean. I imagine because the hot tub is inside there are issues with ventilation and moisture developing in the room. There was no where to put our garbage, it was full when we got there. The cleaning woman was very accomodating to our loads of trash when we checked out, but would have been better if could have thrown out trash. Huge rainstorms and had a few leaks, but again shared that with the manager and they are working to improve a few areas.
Overall a great property in a cool part of the State. We would definitely return to this VRBO.
The location was awesome! It was quiet, which was what we had wanted! We had an awesome view of the mountains! The cabin was clean and spacious for our group of 11. We were delighted to find a cabin this size for the price! We killed quite a few spiders... Maybe that's common in a cabin? The manager provided good customer service. There's been talk of renting this cabin again in the future if the price remains reasonable! We would definitely consider staying here again!
My family and I had a wonderful time in Alma on Kootchie Kootchie Lane. The home was beautiful, inviting and a perfect location to base out of after visiting Colorado Springs. We visited Canon City for Zip lining and White Water Rafting in the Royal Gorge Area, drove to Breckenridge and crossed the Continental Divide, took a trip to Vail and planned to Horseback ride at Platte Ranch but didn't have a chance to do that.
We shopped in Fairplay, had a beer at the Highest Saloon in the USA in Alma and would recommend this home to others who want to have a great place to relax, base out of and see the great sites in this section of Colorado.
Sold on Homeaway Properties :)
First, I liked the location- the views from the balcony and living room were absolutely stunning. It's easy to get to and in a good, remote location. There's nobody around, which was nice and private. We had a large group and appreciated having rooms for everyone in our group.
Unfortunately, there quite a few things that were either run-down, dirty, or just misstated. The listing says there's a fitness room. Unless we just never found said room, there was no fitness room. This was one of the features many in our group was looking forward to. We made the best of it by getting outside and going on a few hikes though! When we arrived, one of the bedrooms had a window that said 'Wash Me'. I have no idea how long it had been like that but it looked like awhile. It was in a spot that was easy to get to as well. There were many, many cobwebs in the ceiling and dirt in cracks of the floorboard. There was a cabinet door in the kitchen that literally fell off when we tried to open it. The pots and pans were flimsy and bent when you used them.
To be fair, we didn't bring these things up when we arrived because we didn't want to have to deal with someone being there cleaning and fixing things while we were trying to relax and have fun. And none of it were things we couldn't live with. So it's entirely possible they would have fixed things if we had asked. That is why I am rating it 3 stars and not 2.
Prior to arrival, we were also supposed to receive an email with the door code, which I never received. I even checked my spam folder. I had to call the contact person to get the code. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning so folks have a heads up to be proactive, if need be.
Even though it could accommodate our large group and we had a good time, we all agreed we wouldn't stay here again. I should add that this group gets together twice a year and has for six years so we've stayed in a lot of cabins!
Amazing, rustic cabin with sweet views right near the continental divide. No doubt, this place is a *great value*. A group of us went up there, and really enjoyed being away from the tourists in Breck (which I hear is the most visited ski resort in the world). That being said, it's about 20-30 mins depending how you drive to the breck area, and the mountain ski pass is good for the other nearby mountains - a-basin, Vail, beaver creek, keystone to go skiing for the day. We also found out about some of the smaller family owned mountains nearby like Monarch which cost around 40$ a day to ski instead of 180$. We really enjoyed the hot tub room after a day of snowboarding and skiing.
True, this place doesn't have the convenience of a ski-in ski-out place, but for that convenience you will definitely pay at least triple the price. This is an excellent place to come with a group, shoot some pool, play some music, enjoy the 2 story fire place, and chill.
We would definitely come back to this place again. Good times had by all.
We gathered family together across 3 states for a pre-Christmas celebration and had a wonderful time at this cabin. It's so spacious and comfortable! If you are expecting 5 star hotel-like accommodations, this is not it... It's a BIG mountain cabin. But for our loud, fire place loving, beer drinking, pool shooting family, it was perfect! It's out of the way and close to absolutely nothing - and that's the kind of getaway we were looking for.
