The location is quiet in a secure complex of mainly residential owners and is just a couple of minutes walk to the main street in town that has several banks, shops and restaurants. Plus its only a 5 minute walk to the beaches!
I also had the great opportunity to stay at this property for one week last year. The place was homey and comfortable. The sheets and home were clean. We arranged to be picked up at the local airport about 30 minutes away and were driven to the door for an additional fee. We were treated like family. Any questions or concerns were dealt with immediately by Dreams2Reality staff. Even when I locked the keys inside-things were corrected professionally and quickly. The home owners have updated the appliances and décor since. There is a gate guard and the neighbours were polite. We cooked half the nights we were there but took short walks to local restaurants on other nights. We ran out of gas on our rented 4 wheeler and the local people were helpful and happy to have been able to get us gas. We met amazing people. An opportunity awaits you.
I was fortunate enough to find this (American owned) rental in the heart of LT and stayed for two months. (This was my first ever trip to LT.) From the moment I entered, this spacious, homey unit really felt like a home away from home. It's on the ground floor and has a private, fenced in yard and patio surrounded by vegetation, which makes for great privacy. The location itself couldn't have been more perfect - tucked away off the street, but walking distance to everything, I felt like I was really living here among the wonderful, friendly people, not just inhabiting a vacation rental. Because I was a woman travelling alone, it is important to also note that day or night I ALWAYS felt safe walking through the neighborhoods or being "at home" -- honestly, I sometimes forgot to lock the gate or door...
Amy met me at the unit when I arrived and made me most welcome. She also made herself available to tend to whatever needs or answer any ?'s I might've had. My experience living here is in no small way responsible for my decision to return to LT asap. If you're looking for a walled in, all inclusive where you can be handed mojitos to the sound of canned Salsa before the all-you-can-eat buffet...keep looking. If you want to experience LT and be part of LT, this is the place for you. Everything you need or want is within walking distance, including the amazing beaches. A bike or quad etc. is helpful if you want to be out and about beyond your comfort zone, but for most everything, it's not necessary. (There's off street parking avail for whatever transportation you might have.) WiFi was very reliable, more so than some of the more $$$ units across from the beach. The kitchen is modern and includes pretty much all you'd need - from blending your own Chinola juice to preparing complete meals "in." One thing I didn't avail myself of at the time was the convenience of having groceries delivered from Lindo. Walking is great, but carrying bags - not so much. Concho's abound though, & you can catch a ride to your destination for about 50 pesos. Have a great time! And when you walk through town in the evening, be sure to stop off at Big Dan's, say "hola!" -and take your turn with the hula hoop. :)
Las Terrenas is the resort town of the Samana Peninsula. A cosmopolitan and lively small town which has developed from what was a traditional fishing village. Discovered in the 70's by mainly French people, the strong European influence is always evident in the restaurants and shops. However still keeping its intrinsically Caribbean charm, this a place to chill, no news no shoes. With miles of unbroken beaches, beautiful hills and valleys there is always something to do. From Jan to March you can go see the magnificent whales in the Samana Bay. There is horse riding, 4x4 excursions, the beautiful waterfalls of El Limon, the national Park of Los Haitises and much much more. A sailing club, kite surfing and fabulous diving are among the water sports available. Exploring Samana peninsula by car is recommended as you can still find real of the beaten track beaches where just the fisherman and a handful of tourists may visit. There is an abundance of fresh fish, lobster, and shrimp cooked as fresh as it is caught!
