Come stay at our jewel box by the sea!
Relax in the custom hot tub or with a drink on the outside daybed in this charming fully renovated (Santa Cruz Green Building Award 2008) former fisherman's cottage. Perfectly located one block from West Cliff Drive and an easy 3 block walk to Cowell's Beach; the Boardwalk, world-class surfing and downtown are all just a short stroll. The main house features a living room, dining room, fully-stocked kitchen (Aga stove, marble counters), and bathroom (double shower) with original vintage features. The main bedroom has a brand new comfortable queen mattress. The adorable separate self-contained studio cottage also has a queen bed, kitchenette and bathroom. The third building offers an additional bedroom with queen bed and a media/play room with flat screen television, extensive movie collection, Wii and games suitable for all ages. The upstairs loft in main house offers three twins (not recommended for small children - ladder access only).
The fully-landscaped yard profers a large sail shaded seating area with teak daybed and benches as well as a hot tub and heated outdoor shower for post-surfing clean up. A gas grill and large outdoor dining table is available for alfresco meals. If the evening gets chilly, fire up the outdoor heater and snuggle up to watch the stars while listening to the sea lion seranade!
The owners live locally and are readily available to offer any help needed to make your beach vacation dreams come true!

Adam is Australian and Marcy grew up in Santa Barbara, so we both grew up next to and loving the ocean. We spent 11 long years on the East coast starting our careers. When we moved back to California (Los Gatos) in 2004, we found ourselves spending every free moment in Santa Cruz. We drove by our beach house every weekend and contacted the owners to see if they'd sell; we won it in a bidding war several months later. What we 'won' was a dilapadated shack with no frame, holes in the floor, and rat-infested outbuildings. We slowly and painfully renovated and restored until we had the little 'jewel box by the sea' of which we had always dreamed! We enjoyed it with our three children (and almost constant visitors) until we recently were forced to acknowledge we were just too much family for such a little (yet, surprisingly functional!) home. Looking forward to retirement, when with any luck it will once again be our full time abode.
Marcy & Adam purchased this cottage in 2004
With a separate cottage with bathroom/kitchenette, this property is perfect for providing for multigenerational gatherings or other situations where some members may need a little quiet space of their own.
We had a very enjoyable fun time in Santa Cruz. The cottage rental was very accomadating and well centralized to Boardwalk, the Wharf, and beaches. Everything was walking distance. The only place we drive to was the steam engine train that went through the Redwood forest. Awesome experience. That was only 15 minutes away. The fish market on the Wharf was a yummy place to eat as well was the Fire Fish grill.. Our teenage kids enjoying going to the Boardwalk and boogie boarding at the local beaches. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed winding down in the evening by first going into the jacuzzi and then meeting in the media room to watch a movie together before bed. We will be back!!!

Perfect spot for two families traveling together, everyone had their own "space". Each adult/couple had their own room and the teens piled in to the loft.
We had friends coming and going for a day at the boardwalk and the kids could walk to and from as they wished.
We're all looking forward to a return trip next year!
As a quick summer getaway, we chose Santa Cruz for our family vacation. It ended up being the perfect spot with several things for a few different generations to enjoy. My teenage daughter and her friends as well as my twenty something son and his girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the boardwalk, pier and beach. But the cherry on top was the amazing house. It was beautiful, clean, and provided the absolute perfect backdrop to a great week. The amenities were fantastic from the large kitchen, to the spa, to the courtyard gathering spot and so much more. No need to think twice, rent this home if you are planning a trip to Santa Cruz!
My niece was getting married in the redwoods up off Old San Jose Road. I searched for a place where we could gather together as a family. (8 of us, including two grandchildren). What I rented was perfection--this property was perfect for all ages and stages of us. The TV/game room was a World Cup magnet, the marble topped kitchen with excellent equipment soothed and challenged the cooks, and the stools at the counter was used by children and adults as we stirred, simmered, and shared wine as we cooked.
Outdoors included shade and sun and lavender in bloom. We lounged, laughed, hung out. Perfection! The children loved the hot tub at not too hot a temperature.
We all loved the space, the privacy and the social spaces for us all. We had travelled far to spend time and celebrate together. In the end, we all wished we could move in for longer. This was a magical space.
We wandered to the beach and to the cliffs to watch the surfers, found good food and wine shops, and even went to a magical DIY wedding.
It was an absolutely ideal stay for a group of 7 adults (or big kids!). The highlights of the property are undoubtedly the outdoor hot tub - very well maintained and a great temperature, the location - easy walking distance from the Boardwalk, Wharf and Surf Museum, and the Big Kid room - up a ladder in the attic. The description of the listing perfectly sums up the accommodation, the only extra point worth reiterating is that there are 2 bedrooms outside, one of which doesn't have a bathroom, so requires a little coordination!
We were coming to the area for a friend's wedding and this house looked the cleanest and the cutest, best appointed, and most centrally located. It was even better than we could have imagined! Great proximity to downtown, boardwalk, walking/running trails, surfing (whether you're doing it or just watching it), nature watching, etc.
Initially, it was just going to be me and my husband staying there, then another couple joined, and finally a few singles decided to join us as well once they all saw how great the photos and amenities looked. The outbuildings and common area were just as fantastic as the main house. The loft was totally fine for the one person who slept up there (he's an adult over six feet tall). Some kids (or adults!) might be afraid of the ladder to get up there, if they are exceptionally anxious.
The bathrooms, especially, were unbelievably amazing. If the owner were to add pictures of the bathrooms, I think the house would be booked solid. I could sleep in that two-head shower, I tell you.
The host was amazing and communicative, stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed, and was reachable by phone/text message for the duration of our stay if there were any issues, which the only issue we encountered was not knowing how to use the wireless stereo system at first.
Oh, and the hot tub is the best I've ever used. I mean ever. And I typically only stay in rentals/B&Bs/hotels with hot tubs. I was in that thing twice a day.
