About Vicki Beal

Doug Beal, Jr. a 5th generation, lived in Southwest Harbor his whole life. He and his wife, Vicki, owned a Marine Construction and Diving Business for 41 years. They decided to start a retirement business, so, they began building seasonal rental cottages. Doug completed 3 of them before he passed away in the summer 2015 ( Homeaway #956783 and ). Vicki is carrying on the business that she and Doug started, together.

The three cottages can house 14 happy vacationers, (for a group looking to vacation, together), or rent one for a family. Woodland Cottages I, II and III, all have great holiday appeal ~

Vicki Beal purchased this house in 2012

Why Vicki Beal chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

When I am building these cottages, I build them the way I would want them as if I were going to live in them. I try to make them very compfortable, quiet and private. I am pleased with both of them.

Fantastic cabin in a fantastic location.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four loved our stay here. The house was great and equipped with everything we needed for our week on MDI. The fire pit was a great way to unwind after days spent hiking and we enjoyed being able to walk into town and down to Beal's Lobster Pier. We will definitely look to stay here again on our next trip.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent four nights here in October of 2016. It was the Northern base for our first Maine vacation. The cottage was perfect and the highlight of our trip. I loved waking up to the views of the fishing boats and sailboats in the harbor. It was tastefully appointed with everything we needed to have a great stay. We felt comfortable the entire time. A true home away from home feeling. We didn't have the opportunity to meet the owner but she was very responsive when we needed her (we arrived very late). There were a number of deer sightings along with a visit from a pack of wild turkeys. Even though there were other houses and cottages around we felt like we had plenty of privacy and it was quiet for the duration of our stay.

We love lobster and I particularly love lobster rolls. I decided I would try to curb my lobster cravings by ordering lobster rolls every chance I had. We stayed a couple nights in Portland, ME as well and we sampled rolls from all along the coast. We both agreed the best of the best was from Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound which is located five minutes from the cottage. It was hands down the best cold lobster roll I've ever had in my life. I encourage you to make a point of visiting Charlotte while you're in the area. It's a unique establishment. Beals warm lobster roll is also worth trying while in the area.

We plan to someday return to SW Harbor and when we do I hope we have the opportunity to stay here again.

Beautiful surroundings and on the "quiet side"

  • 5 of 5

This property was represented very well in the description. Vicki met us when we arrived because we got there in the dark, but then we didn't see her again, no need. The view from the bedroom loft was beautiful and the surroundings were lovely, very well appointed home. We rented bikes at the Southwest Harbor bike shop right around the corner and love Eben! Very helpful and we could take them with us where ever we wanted to try to ride. We went out from Bass Harbor on the Island Cruises and had a great, informative presentation from Eli (the owner) all about the history, nature and the lobster business - get there early! Would highly recommend! Don't miss - Cadillac Mountain, Acadia Mountain or any of the harbors!

Cozy retreat with enticing view of Southwest Harbor.

  • 5 of 5

This quaint cottage was perfectly secluded, but accessible at the same time. It offered every amenity you would need for off time while otherwise exploring beautiful Acadia National Park. It felt like our own little retreat from the world, but we were still only a short walk to the conveniences and charm of the town of Southwest Harbor with its offerings of great restaurants, cafes, galleries, and markets. We particularly enjoyed this small township that really felt more authentic than the touristy Bar Harbor (although we did enjoy the time we spent in Bar Harbor). Our only regret was not staying longer. I recommend in particular: Thurston's for lobster, Coda for a nice dinner, drinks, and live music, and taking a dip in Echo lake, with its beautiful crystal clear water. I'm obviously pining for Maine. Thanks again for a wonderful getaway!

Great Cabin in the woods!!!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time, the Cabin had everything we needed and was ready when we arrived. We loved the location, just a short walk to town and only a few minutes to drive to everything in Acadia. Enjoyed cooking Smores and hanging out by the fire pit.

I highly recommend this Cabin and Vikki made us feel right at home!
