Wellsboro Lodge Rental Photos and Description

The Lodge = 7 bedrooms, 4.5 baths

The Lodge is rented out as a whole, but you will see below that we have broken down the levels of the building so you can better visualize the accommodations.

Main Level: 3 bedrooms, pullout couch, 3 bathrooms, deluxe kitchen, large living room, 2 outside decks

Bottom Level: 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, large living room, covered outside seating

Located just 3 miles from the center of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, The Lodge At Sundance Ridge is minutes away from the beautiful town and all the outdoor activities one could ask for, yet remote enough on its magnificent 8+ acres to recreate in total seclusion and relaxation.

A vision of its owner, Dr. Richard Strauch, The Lodge was conceptualized and designed to reflect his love of the architecture and personality found in the mountains of Colorado and Montana. Dr. Strauch sat for endless hours with his auto cad software to design a structure that was open, with high vaulted ceilings, massive stone fireplaces and spacious rooms using reclaimed materials reflecting his passion for reclaiming the past and renewable resources. The main timber frame with its hand-hewn beams and sophisticated rustic appointments was originally an 1850’s barn scheduled for demolition in Liberty, PA. It was carefully dismantled and reconstructed, along with additional timbers from other barns in 2011, to serve as the structural support for the lodge. Huge stones were trucked in from over an hour away and carefully placed by a crane to serve as the hearth for the massive wood-burning fireplace. While insurance requirements prohibit guest use, it is truly a work of art to behold. Radiant heat provides even warmth during the winter months regardless of the temperatures outdoors. Generous windows offer long views down the valley, as well as an opportunity to watch the abundant wildlife in its native habitat that frequents Sundance Ridge.

Second time here "Fabulous"

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time at the Lodge, our group of 7 life long friends thoroughly enjoyed our second time here. One in our group put it into the perfect words " decompression" You can do so many things at the lodge, fish, shoot clay pigeons, hike or just chill on the back deck or side deck with a huge fireplace. This place has everything you would need, well equipped kitchen, plenty of room to spread out and very clsoe to town but yet just far enough away. If anyone has any questions you can always contact Dr. Richard Strauch the owner or you can contact me with any questions.....I feel like an old pro there now so please do not hesitate to contact me.

ONE OF A KIND JUST BEAUTIFUL!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 12 have stayed at the Sundance several times now. The pictures do not do this home justice! Plenty of space for everyone to gather in the living/kitchen area. The seven bedrooms gives everyone ample space. Just love this mountain home!!

BEAUTIFUL HOME!! SPACIOUS AND PERFECT FOR LARGE GROUPS!!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here with friends (3 couples, 5 children) for five days and we absolutely love this home. The pictures do not compare to seeing the home in person, it is even more beautiful than the pictures!! The home has 7 bedrooms, 4 full baths, and 1 half bath. It has three levels, all connected. The lower level floor has 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms with a full kitchen, plus a full size living room, washer and dryer. Two of the four bedrooms are connected and separate from the other two which was perfect for one couple with a 4 year old son. The first floor (main level) had the master bedroom and a full bath with a tub plus a half bath. It has a kitchen, dinning room table that seats 12 or more, two separate living room siting ares that were connected, and fireplace. The third floor had 2 bedrooms and one full bathroom as well. All rooms have queen size beds and MORE THAN enough space for everyone.

I cannot say enough about this home, and the best thing for us was the fireplace outside where we ate smores. Love it sooooo much we are planning another trip next year.

Richard and Linda were wonderful. Highly recommend this home for a large group.

LOVE THIS PROPERTY!!

  • 5 of 5

Sundance Ridge Lodge is absolutely beautiful! My family and I just returned from our trip and immediately secured a booking for next year. We had so much fun sitting back and relaxing on the dock by the pond while the kids canoed and fished. We made smores on the outside fireplace. The home and property are breathtaking. Cannot wait til next Year! Thank you to Linda and Richard for being such gracious hosts.

One of a Kind Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

This house met all of our expectations and then some! Beautifully built, furnished and decorated with so much attention to detail! It is a huge house and yet exudes a charming "homie" feel from the minute you walk in.

Richard was wonderful to work with and his cleaning staff is top notch!

This is most definitely a place I will return to year after year.

It's Wellsboro's best kept secret!

Wonderful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to do some hiking and visit the PA Grand Canyon and take our dog with us. Although this lodge was certainly much more space than we needed, we decided to pursue it anyway. And we are glad we did!

We loved the Lodge and really enjoyed our time there.

It was very spacious with nice-sized windows on a great piece of property.

We saw a deer in the field several times – probably the same one but not sure.

It’s a great location too – close to Wellsboro but also close to the overlook of the Pa Grand Canyon and not far off the main road, but very private.

Richard and his staff were all very helpful and great to work with.

We were most impressed with the quality and appearance inside the lodge -- there is a really cool wooden eagle inside the door, books and magazines laid out very neatly and no clutter. Everything is clearly quality material.

We hope to be back soon!

Things To Do

Especially for the outdoor enthusiast, there is literally an unending array of activities to suit almost everyone. The Lodge is ideally located as the perfect “base camp” from which to embark on endless adventures.

Biking: You can hop on your bike and virtually ride forever over scenic mountain country roads, past farms and camps, streams and beautiful vistas right from The Lodge. For the mountain biker seeking more challenge there are single track trails surely to give even the most experienced rider a “white knuckle” workout. Road bikers have no shortage of macadam roads that wend their way through the back country where a motor vehicle is rarely encountered.

Rails to Trails: Rated by USA Today as one of the top ten bike paths in the world a few years ago, a short 8 minute drive to the trailhead will allow you to ride through the Pine Creek Gorge, known as The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. At approximately 60 miles, there is hardly a shortage of scenery to be encountered, with bald eagles soaring above on the canyon’s thermals, while deer, turkey and the occasional bear all share the outdoors in harmony. Should you prefer to hike the trail there is enough room for everyone. The trail is also very popular for cross country skiing.

Pennsylvania Grand Canyon: A very popular destination for travelers, there is an East and West rim. Leonard Harrison State Park is on the east side, closest to the lodge. At approximately 6 miles, the vista is well worth the time and for those seeking a bit of exercise, a one mile walk down to the canyon floor will thrill the hiker with beautiful natural waterfalls.

Tyoga Country Club: Less than a mile from The Lodge is the 4- star rated golf course. While it is a member’s facility, it is also open to the public. Beautifully landscaped and adequately challenging, you can finish your day at the lovely clubhouse where you can sit on the porch overlooking #1 tee and have lunch, dinner or a libation of your choice.

Fishing: There is an abundance of waters to enjoy in Tioga County, from Pine Creek, a famous trout fishery that is also home to bass when the weather warms, to lakes such as Hills Creek State Park, and Hammond and Cowanesque Lakes that lie just a 15 minute drive north. There are also numerous small streams home to native brook trout for the angler who wants to “hike back in” a bit.

River rafting: A very popular activity primarily in the spring when Pine Creek swells due to the melting snow pack, outfitters such as Pine Creek Outfitters will be more than happy to take you on guided floats and offer raft and wet suit rentals. Raft trips begin just about a 10 minute drive from The Lodge.

Finger Lakes Wineries: A short one hour drive north will bring you to the beautiful Central New York Finger Lakes, slender, long and deep. On the edge of the lakes sit numerous wineries that are just wonderful to visit for tours and tastings. There are many cute bistros and restaurants that sit right on the water, where area boaters come and go. For the wine enthusiast it certainly is something worthy of considering.

Skiing: For winter enthusiasts, there are plentiful activities from cross-country, to downhill skiing as well as snow-shoeing. Should there be ample amounts of snow, you are welcome to cross-country ski around our 50 acre property. A 25 minute drive south on route 287 will bring you to Ski-Sawmill, a delightful hill that will give the downhiller a wonderful day on the slopes. A 40 minute drive west on route 6 will bring you to Denton Hill ski area, which boasts the steepest vertical slope (Avalanche) in Pennsylvania. Both areas are very “family friendly” and offer a nice base lodge. Lift lines are never an issue so you can spend most of your time on the hill, not riding the chair.

Wellsboro Shopping: For a small, quaint village, Wellsboro has a surprising array of nice shops, restaurants and places to meet and greet the locals. There are also two very nice markets for food shopping, and an excellent hospital should the need arise. There are very few “chain” eateries, and most of the gastronomic offerings are from “mom and pop” eateries that have been in Wellsboro for decades.

Private plane guests: Should you have your own plane and wish to fly to us, The Lodge is a brief 5 minute drive from the Wellsboro Johnston Airport. We will be pleased to arrange to pick you up from and deliver you back to the airport upon your departure.

Should you wish to remain close to The Lodge, feel free to hike up and around the property. Don't be surprised if you see deer, wild turkey, grouse, ducks and geese and many beautiful birds surrounding you. Walk out over the bridge to our pond's island. Have a picnic or just lay a blanket down and marvel at the beauty surrounding you. Pick a fresh bouquet of wild flowers or watch the sunset. After all, this is Sundance Ridge.
