Why Betsy and Pete chose Yosemite Area

Imagine this. Living in a forest of trees; surrounded by Yosemite National Park. Quiet, uncrowded, peaceful. Look above at night and explore the stars of the Milky Way stretched before you in the darkening sky. This is what makes Yosemite West a very special place to stay inside the gates of the Park.

What makes this apartment unique

Jumping Deer apartment's living area is in a quiet setting nestled among tall pine trees. Sit back on the outdoor deck with book in hand and rustling trees around you. Awesome! Barbeque some steaks on the grill and discuss the day's adventures far from the crowds of the valley. Your quiet retreat does exist here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time here. Waking up after a very comfortable sleep, baking pancakes in the kitchen. After breakfast, taking a shower which we didn't want to leave!

And after exploring the Valle, coming back to the Jumping Deer and put the BBQ on.

We saw a deer family, a lot of squirrels and even a coyote.

Great spot

  • 5 of 5

Really great option for Yosemite, close to the valley and in a lovely wooded spot. Everything you need for a short stay, although no shops very close so bring what you need.

The only reason to rent is proximity to the Valley

  • 3 of 5

The apt. is technically not in the park, however for all intent, it is. You have to pass through the NP entrance on 41. The subdivision is privately owned land. They weren't kidding with the 64 steps to reach your front door from the parking area. Be prepared to make numerous trips up and down. We were not informed that they were building a home directly in front of the apt, with many trees down and a bulldozer, backhoe already working. The apt itself is nicely sized for two, however, it was not clean. Hair in the shower, dirty pots and pans and knives. I cleaned everything before I cooked with any of it. There was no dishwasher soap (the box was there, but empty). The TV is small, but functional with the basic Direct TV channels. Some people would think we don't need a TV, we'll be gone all day, but we were on east coast time, so up and out early (best time to beat the crowds and find parking) and back early. The owners had mentioned the wifi being spotty, but they did not tell us it was turned off at 5am and back on anywhere between 4-6pm. Not conducive to getting work accomplished when your business is on the east coast. This apt is on the bottom of the building, so when there are people staying in the unit above you, you hear all movement. A problem if they are not on the same sleep schedule. I give the unit itself a 2 star, however, with the closeness to the Valley (20 minutes to parking) and Glacier Point (15 minutes.) I gave it a 3.

Great retreat after exploring Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I enjoyed spending Memorial Day weekend at Jumping Deer. It was clean, comfortable, and we loved grilling after a long day hiking and exploring Yosemite. It was a nice alternative to staying in Yosemite Valley, a scenic 30 minute drive away — right past Tunnel View. Plus the road to Glacier Point is nearby. Be sure to buy gas and groceries outside the Park, as Betsy and Pete recommend. Satellite WiFi didn't work well, it may have already reached its monthly data limit, but we didn't really require it. For GPS navigation, we found it helpful to download Yosemite as an offline area in Google Maps before the trip. It was great to meet Pete at the end of our stay — you can tell he and Betsy really care for the place. Overall Jumping Deer provided the rest and relaxation we needed after long days outdoors.

cozy & quiet

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Jumping Deer. It was very comfortable and equipped with all the essentials. The drive into Yosemite Valley was pleasant and not too far from the apartment. The owners were also very responsive when we had questions and concerns. I didn't have a problem with the wifi as mentioned in other reviews. Would definitely recommend The Jumping Deer for visiting Yosemite National Park!
