Why Vicki Henning chose Northern Michigan

Betsie Bay House is a one-of-a-kind house for vacationers who see their accommodations as part of their vacation experience.

Situated a couple blocks from Main Street and Lake Michigan and adjacent to Frankfort's downtown district. Our home recalls earlier times when residents would exchange gossip from their front porches. Betsie Bay House has that porch, as well as updated living space, with the amenities for vacationers who enjoy something special.

What makes this house unique

Betsie Bay House offers many unique attributes. An older home with spacious living room and air conditioning, Direct TV and secured WiFi ; large dining room with table for nine; main floor bedroom with queen size bed, fully furnished kitchen with all your basic cooking supplies; full size bathroom on each floor; upstairs features large master bedroom with queen size bed, ceiling fan and walk-in closet; third bedroom with queen size and twin size bed, ceiling fan and walk in-closet. The fourth bedroom has two twin bed, ceiling fan and walk-in closet.

Downtown Frankfort is just a couple blocks away, where you can enjoy dining, and historic sightseeing, a show at The Garden Theater or a beer at the local brewery.

Betsie Lake is just down the street and there are two marinas within walking distance for charter fishing. The Betsie River is close by for all your fishing and kayaking desires. The Little River Casino is only a short 25 minute drive from Frankfort!

Charming house - great location

  • 4 of 5

We have made Betsie Bay House and annual trip. The house is a few blocks from downtown and the bike trail. Lots to do in the area. The house is an older home with a lot of character. Everything that you need is in the home including a gas grill. Great for a group setting. The reason for the 4 star vs a 5 is for the comfort of the beds. If you like a firm bed you are all set. If you prefer a softer bed you might want to bring your memory foam. In all, this is a lovely house in a great location

Love this house!.

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th stay in Frankfort. We can say it was a beautiful house to have for the week. We loved the front porch and how we could park our car and walk everywhere we wanted to go. I would highly recommend staying there.

Great Golf Base Camp!

  • 5 of 5

We used the Betsie Bay house as our base for a guys golf getaway weekend! Lots of great golf just minutes away (Arcadia Bluffs, Crystal Mountain, etc), and plenty of great restaurants in Frankfort within easy walking distance. We would definitely use it again. Clean and comfortable! We particularly enjoyed the large front porch for an evening glass of wine!

Quaint home with all the amenities we expected.

  • 5 of 5

Our group of five women enjoyed the home while we were on a week-long vacation. The house was very clean, well-supplied with all the necessary items and we appreciated that there were separate sleeping areas for each of us. Whenever a question came up, Vicki responded immediately and took care of any issues. We requested early access and Carol also accommodated us. The small town of Frankfort was a pleasure to visit with very friendly people. There were plenty of activities and nice restaurants in the area to keep us busy each day. All in all, we had a great time!

Very nice home, great yard.

  • 4 of 5

The home is very nice and my sisters and I enjoyed our stay. Lots of room for everyone. The kitchen is very, very small. We do like to cook so that was difficult. There were a few housekeeping issues, but we got through them. It is some distance from the beach and downtown shops and restaurants, walkable if you really like a hike. Frankfort is a wonderful small town and we always love our time there. The owner and property manager were very helpful.

They supplied lots of beach toys, outside patio was great and the fire pit was great for s'more making.

A great family house!

  • 4 of 5

We were in Frankfort for a family reunion. The house was very clean and well maintained. The backyard was great - big enough for the kids to run around or play yard games such as corn hole or washers. We loved the fire pit - complete with lots of Adirondack chairs for seating. We also spent a lot of time on the front porch where we could sit in the shade for meals, playing cards or just talking. There was a table and seating for 6 there and it was wonderfully restful.

The kitchen had everything you could possible need or want in the way of pots, pans, dishes and utensils. There were even seasonings. The only drawback was that the kitchen itself was small and had no dishwasher. The location was great - it was a short walk to Main Street, Betsie Bay or the lake. I would definitely recommend the city of Frankfort and Betsie Bay house in particular to friends and family.

Sleeping Bear Dunes is one of the most famous activities of Northwestern Michigan. This is one activity that you won't want to skip.

If you are into biking you will want to try out Frankfort-Elberta beach-to-beach trail. 4.2 mile trail connecting the beaches of Elberta and Frankfort. The trail also connects to the Betsie Valley Trail which goes from Frankfort-Elberta through Beulah to Thompsonville (22 miles).

If golfing is what you are after you will want to try out Champion Hills--Beulah, Frankfort Public Golf Course, Pinecroft Golf Course--Beualh or Crystal Mountain--Thompsonville. All of them are excellent courses.

If you are into the arts you will have to visit Interlochen Center for the Arts a home to the Interlochen Arts Festival, an annual presentation of more than 750 student, faculty and guest artist events. Corsen Auditorium, Interlochen's premier indoor venue, accommodates up to 1,000 people for music, theater and dance productions. Interlochen Center for the Arts is located 16 miles southwest of Traverse City.

For a local artist you will want to visit Gwen Frostic's well-known original block prints are featured at this wildlife sanctuary and printing shop. Open May-November, Monday-Saturday. No admission Charge.

If canoeing is your scene then you will want to try out the Upper Platt River that flows around the town of Honor. The upper portion of the river is better suited for more experienced canoeists; the lower portion is slower-paced for family-style canoeing and flows through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake shore to Lake Michigan.

Don't forget the wineries. If you travel around the Leelanau Peninsula there are several wineries within the area.
