Take a few days away from the bustle of the city to explore our bucolic countryside little changed over the past 2 to 3 centuries. Visit wineries and orchards, significant Civil War battlefields and historic towns, hike the Appalachian Trail or follow in the footsteps of our founding fathers by visiting their homes. There is plenty to do that beckons you to leave the city for a weekend or a week.

A bit about me...I am a former Californian who, after 12 years in DC, is now an honorary Washington native. Being well traveled both domestically and internationally has given me a great appreciation for the enrichment contact with others brings to our experience. I am well-versed on the 'must-see' sights, monuments and museums of our culturally rich city, along with the unique experiences your find only in Washington. We share that insight with our guests in our property Welcome Guides which we send upon confirmation.

We very much enjoy hosting visitors to our Nation's Capital and ensuring that they are able to make the most of their visit.

Reviewer Comments:

We loved staying at The Sanctuary. The space itself is perfect for a couple. The bed is a Murphy (folds up) and you have a kitchenette (stove top, mini fridge, toaster, microwave) so it is perfect for preparing snacks or light meals. The apartment was clean when we arrived. The washer and dryer is a awesome bonus. If you plan on being out most of the day, this place is perfect. And honestly, DC has so much stuff for you to do and see, if you are inside all day something is wrong! We were pretty amazed with this little apartment given that you are so close to downtown. We took the D6 bus across the street and were in Georgetown in about 10 minutes. We were in DuPont in about 15 minutes. We would go out all day, then catch the bus back from DuPont ( a couple of times we used Uber). Considering the hotels downtown were close to 299$ a night we could not believe our good fortune when we found this place. We liked the neighborhood too. It is a bit sleepy but honestly it seems like the kind of place you would want to live. It has some cool restaurants. It is not dense with shops and pubs like DuPont or Capitol Hill - but you may not necessarily want that at the end of the day. We went out for number of early evening strolls and stopped at a Belgian restaurant and had a glass of wine. All in all we loved the placed. Staying this way (apartment rental) in a neighborhood with nothing but the welcome guide and a map was a cool, unique way to experience the city. My wife and I really thought this was a great little getaway. It was private and affordable so we were able to save a bit of money and then splurge on a few other things :) If you are coming to DC and want to be in the city, but outside the noise and chaos, this is a great little spot on MacArthur Blvd. LUXbnb and Matthias were very helpful and gave us the tools to prepare and plan our stay, but stayed out of our way.

Matthias was very friendly and accommodating! We had small children in our group that couldn't accompany us to our conference on the day of our checkout. He worked with us on a late check out. I noticed a couple of spiders. However, I didnt bring it to his attention; as I noticed bug spray under the porch - I knew he was already working on getting rid of the spiders. No big deal as that is something that we all get inside of our homes from time to time. The point is that he was already ON IT! I would like to suggest some bleach for washing towels, etc. Again, no big deal, as we were able to purchase some less than four blocks away at the Safeway grocery store.

Felt Naturally Like Home

  • 5 of 5

First and foremost, I cant say enough about the Lanlord Matthias.

He was so genuinely nice that I almost thought it was too good to be true.

The standard checkin was at 3:00pm. Our flight arrived at 9:00am and we were out of the airport by 9:45am. We requested for an early check in, hoping for a 1-2pm at best. Out of nowhere, he made the effort for the cleaning lady to do everything and we were in by 11:00am.

When we got there, the keys were right where he said they would be and as we made our way in, we noticed how super clean everything was. It had such a homely feeling that i knew right then and there that we got our money's worth.

The place had a quaint bathroom, nice little kitchen area, a washer and dryer which indeed came in handy as well as a very comfortable bed.

The surrounding neighborhood is so peaceful and you have a starbucks, pharmacy and convenience store a 3 minute walk away.

It was very easy to find and very quiet.

Again, back to the Lanlord, he responded with email quick as well as answering my phonecalls. Not once did it go to voicemail. He was very attentive to our needs and made sure to check on us to make sure our comfortably was high.

One more thing is that checkout was at 12:00pm. He allowed us to leave our luggage there because our flight was not leaving until 6:00pm that night. He did not need to accommodate us at all but he did. I cannot thank him enough.

I can only hope to have a stay like this on my future endeavors. Perfect Landlord with a Perfect stay.

Thank you Matthias for letting us Californians stay in this fine little gem.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The fact that there was EVERYTHING we needed in the apartment. The accessibility of the washer and dryer made things so much easier. The area it is in is also beautiful and very welcoming, the grocery store is down the street and DC is only 15-25 minutes away, depending on the day and time. We will definitely be staying again.
