About the property

Cozy one bedroom/one bathroom Mountain cabin on 13 acres

The mountain log cabin is a beautiful retreat. From the deep porch, you have spectacular long range mountain views and can watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. It's in a wooded, peaceful setting surrounded by nature, yet close to nearby activities and shopping. This is a one bedroom, one bath, cozy cabin. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishware (etc). A fire pit and hot tub adds to the comfort of your retreat. The comfy bed has ultra-soft linens and towels, and the cabin has plush robes for your nights in front of the fire pit or after a nice soak in the hot tub. We also have Roku, antennae TV, a DVR and a radio/CD player and wireless internet for your enjoyment. Sit on your porch and listen to the sounds of nature, watch the wildlife, or see the beauty of the mountains change color throughout the day. In the evening, you will spot deer, turkeys and ground hogs, as well as the fireflies dancing in the grass. Enjoy the onset of dusk with a glass of wine in front of a crackling fire. Let the Shadow of the Moon Cabin and it's private, peaceful setting rejuvenate you.

About Judy Howell

John and Judy both worked for the US Marshals Service, and met in 2007. In 2012 they married, and enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain area whenever they could. They fell in love with the Waynesville/Asheville area, and knew they had to retire there. They searched the area for property to buy, and as soon as they drove up the driveway of this one, they knew it was the one.

Judy Howell purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Judy Howell chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

This property is so unique. It was an old farm and in the same family until early 2000. It's on 13 acres, surrounded by meadows and forests, with spectacular mountain views. You will feel like you are isolated in nature, but are in fact minutes away from towns, shopping and activities. It is, truly, the best of both worlds. This property has hiking trails, long range mountain views, mountain streams, and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

From the front porch of the cabin, you can sit with a glass of wine or hot cup of cocoa, and gaze at the mist in the meadows or the spectacular views of the mountains. Listen to the sounds of nature and watch the fireflies dance in the evening. You will forget how hectic life can be when everything here is so tranquil. The cabin is cozy and comfortable; it's charm and hominess is to be enjoyed by couples, honeymooners, or folks looking to get away. The bedroom is comfy, outfitted in soft bed linens. After a day spent hiking or shopping, you will look forward to snuggling up in your nest. The living room has games and cards, but also has TV and wireless internet for times when you want to 'plug back in'. You will love staying here; it's like your home away from home. There are streams on the property, as well as an old barn. The property will delight you and renew your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"We enjoyed our stay in your cabin so very much! It felt like home and we really appreciated the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere you provided for us. We loved sitting in the hot tub and gazing at the stars (something we don't get to see in Atlanta!). We actually got engaged Friday evening right on the front porch, so I know we will never forget this place! We will surely be back!"

Perfect Getaway...

  • 5 of 5

Ah just what Dr. ordered. Cabin is so relaxing and well maintained. Perfect touches also that owners did like the nice linens, towels. This is really a gem of a cabin and will definitely be back... With it also being pet friendly our Bloodhound Delilah enjoyed all the new tracking grounds.

Thank You

Judy and John

Perfect privacy in the mountains.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this place so much. The hot tub was always hot. The fire pit was perfect for smores and late night drinks. The bed is super comfy and the quilts bring me back to my childhood.

Cataloochee ski area is only about 10 minutes away and there is also great hiking near by. A short drive to Asheville brings you to The Biltmore Estate and a bunch of great breweries. Blue ridge parkway was our favorite part. It's almost difficult to process the views they are so fantastic.

If your a couple that loves a view of the mountains while you sit in the hot tub or by the fire, this is your spot.

Relaxing weekend

  • 4 of 5

If you are look for a nice relaxing weekend, this is a great cabin. We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nice and quite and that is just what my husband and I needed. He just returned home two months ago from deployment and this was our first chance to get away together and it was great.

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

We felt like we snuck in and out, and never had the opportunity to meet our hosts, but we felt their presence in all the small touches that made our stay wonderful! A highlight was enjoying a quiet cup of coffee snuggled under an afghan on the front porch glider as the sun rose on the mountains. Stunning! This was the perfect place to relax, regroup and recharge. Less than an hour drive to Biltmore / Ashville area.

Please be advised that if you are booking on a day when a prior guest is checking out the day you are checking in, the hot tub will not be up to temperature on the first evening. We drain, clean and refill the hot tub between guests, as required by NC law, and a same day turnover is not enough time for it to get up to the proper temps. It will be ready the next morning.
