About the property

Cozy one bedroom/one bathroom Mountain cabin on 13 acres

The mountain log cabin is a beautiful retreat. From the deep porch, you have spectacular long range mountain views and can watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. It's in a wooded, peaceful setting surrounded by nature, yet close to nearby activities and shopping. This is a one bedroom, one bath, cozy cabin. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishware (etc). A fire pit and hot tub adds to the comfort of your retreat. The comfy bed has ultra-soft linens and towels, and the cabin has plush robes for your nights in front of the fire pit or after a nice soak in the hot tub. We also have Roku, antennae TV, a DVR and a radio/CD player and wireless internet for your enjoyment. Sit on your porch and listen to the sounds of nature, watch the wildlife, or see the beauty of the mountains change color throughout the day. In the evening, you will spot deer, turkeys and ground hogs, as well as the fireflies dancing in the grass. Enjoy the onset of dusk with a glass of wine in front of a crackling fire. Let the Shadow of the Moon Cabin and it's private, peaceful setting rejuvenate you.

About Judy Howell

John and Judy both worked for the US Marshals Service, and met in 2007. In 2012 they married, and enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain area whenever they could. They fell in love with the Waynesville/Asheville area, and knew they had to retire there. They searched the area for property to buy, and as soon as they drove up the driveway of this one, they knew it was the one.

Judy Howell purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Judy Howell chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

This property is so unique. It was an old farm and in the same family until early 2000. It's on 13 acres, surrounded by meadows and forests, with spectacular mountain views. You will feel like you are isolated in nature, but are in fact minutes away from towns, shopping and activities. It is, truly, the best of both worlds. This property has hiking trails, long range mountain views, mountain streams, and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

From the front porch of the cabin, you can sit with a glass of wine or hot cup of cocoa, and gaze at the mist in the meadows or the spectacular views of the mountains. Listen to the sounds of nature and watch the fireflies dance in the evening. You will forget how hectic life can be when everything here is so tranquil. The cabin is cozy and comfortable; it's charm and hominess is to be enjoyed by couples, honeymooners, or folks looking to get away. The bedroom is comfy, outfitted in soft bed linens. After a day spent hiking or shopping, you will look forward to snuggling up in your nest. The living room has games and cards, but also has TV and wireless internet for times when you want to 'plug back in'. You will love staying here; it's like your home away from home. There are streams on the property, as well as an old barn. The property will delight you and renew your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"We enjoyed our stay in your cabin so very much! It felt like home and we really appreciated the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere you provided for us. We loved sitting in the hot tub and gazing at the stars (something we don't get to see in Atlanta!). We actually got engaged Friday evening right on the front porch, so I know we will never forget this place! We will surely be back!"

Peaceful, relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was exactly what we were hoping for. Very cozy and accommodating. The hot tub was a perfect end to each day. We used the free Netflix daily and really put the spacious porch to good use. Very clean and well maintained. The pillow top bed was so soft and comfy. Close to both Waynesville and Maggie Valley, yet semi-secluded for a relaxing stay on this farm. Will be back again.

Ideal spot

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this cabin. We could tell from when we first looked at the pictures on the website, this cabin has been recently renovated. The kitchen has new counter tops and a wonderful butcher block, the cabinets have been re-stained, and new flooring has been put down throughout the place. There is even a new couch! It was clean, comfortable and beautiful. There is something very special about this property, almost spiritual in nature. You feel at peace here and we had such a relaxing time. The property the cabin is on is gorgeous, with great views. There is another cabin behind this one, about 150 feet away, but it's situated in such a way (tucked into the woods) that it offers maximum privacy for both cabins. We never saw or heard the folks staying over there. We brought our two dogs and there are trails on the property for them to walk and explore. It's close enough to area activities, but far enough away to feel like you are getting a real mountain experience. We will definitely be back!

We had a blast. Convenient to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Remote enough yet close enough to the amenities! Just perfect for us!

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfy. Loved the heater in the bedroom that looked like a campfire. We also enjoyed the fluffy robes when we enjoyed the hot tub. The cabin feels like home. The tea bags and little shampoos and conditioners was a thoughtful gesture. We also enjoyed our view when sitting on the porch. We would highly recommend this cabin.

Please be advised that if you are booking on a day when a prior guest is checking out the day you are checking in, the hot tub will not be up to temperature on the first evening. We drain, clean and refill the hot tub between guests, as required by NC law, and a same day turnover is not enough time for it to get up to the proper temps. It will be ready the next morning.
