John Foley purchased this house in 2006
Affordable and comfortable alternative to some of the more expensive and pretentious properties that are plentiful in the area. Feels like home for everybody.
Large living room with fireplace and plenty of dry aged wood. Build a roaring fire and relax. Guests tells us they found it hard to leave they tended to cook in the new and spacious kitchen and lounge around the fire and play games when they were not out skiing on Vermont's hightest peak
Our Home is located in the Stowe Hollow neighborhood, just one half mile outside of Stowe Village in picturesque Stowe VT. Enjoy skiing & riding on Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak or take the over easy Gondola to ski and ride on Spruce Peak, Mansfield's sister mountain.
You can also ski & ride at Smuggler's Notch or Sugarbush, two great alternatives about 30 to 40 minutes away. Smugger's Notch is actually the back side of Mount Mansfield and some people have been known to hike up and over to ski both sides. However, in winter if you want to ski "Smuggs" most people just drive around.
If you're really feeling adventurous check out Jay Peak about an hour away on the Canadian border. Great Mountain, fantastic glade runs and home of the Pump House. A giant indoor water park for kiddos of all ages
Back in Stowe check out the Matterhorn Bar. Located on the Mountain Road just down the street from Mount Mansfield. It was recently voted #1 Apres Ski Bar in America. Very busy on Saturday afternoons into early evening and and an experience truly to be had. Great food & drink covering anything and everything from Pizza and Wings to Sushi. There is a deck overlooking the West Branch River and pool tables and video games for the kiddos. It truly is fun for the entire family.
Along the mountain road and into Stowe Village there are lots of shopping and dining choices. Our favorite restaurant is Harrison's
a family owned and operated restaurant that has been thriving there for years. You'll probably need a reservation weekend nights but they never disappoint. The owner Kathy will tend to your every need and her son Andrew will pour you a great drink or serve you a fine locally brewed craft beer. Incidentally, the house you're staying in was built by Andrew's grandfather.
Make sure to check out the Von Trapp Lodge located right next door to Stowe in Moscow VT. You can hike, snowshoe, or cross-country ski there on their many scenic trails. You could also try there Vienna Tea Room or there local craft brewery as well.
If you're there to ski this may not be for you but if you're taking a day off check out Burlington, VT Home of University of VT about an hour drive from Stowe. UVM sits on a hill that rolls down to the banks of lake Champlain. It is a beautiful college town with lots of great shopping, and dining. Check out Church Street, an old Cobble Stone pedestrian only street with dozens of great shops and restaurants and bars. Burlington also has a very good live music scene if that also peaks your interest.
