Overview

Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island House Rental Photos and Description

Ledgelawn Cottage, a nineteenth century beauty on Bar Harbor's historic Ledgelawn Avenue, is steps from all the attractions of downtown and five minutes from Acadia National Park. Stroll to the village green, fine restaurants and quaint specialty shops, the Abbe Museum, Shore Path, free Island Explorer bus, tennis courts, playground and wading pool. Just a mile to Acadia National Park and the famed Kebo Valley Golf Course. We comfortably accommodate up to eight guests in this spacious family home, decorated with a blend of new and antique furnishings. Ledgelawn Cottage offers guests 3,000 square feet of living space on two floors.

Enter the house through the large enclosed front porch with ample seating, the perfect spot to relax with your morning coffee and plan the day's adventures. Once inside the central entrance hall, you will see the spacious living room to your left, with comfortable seating and large flat screen HDTV, home theater speakers, and DVD player. To your right is the reading room, well stocked with travel guides and maps, a table and chairs for studying the many brochures and area menus, shelves of books for children and adults, and a recliner for dozing or reading a good book. Old-fashioned pocket doors lead from the reading room into the sun-filled dining room, with lots of room for family meals or playing board games from the corner china cabinet.

Crossing the hall past the powder room, you will find yourself in a large, fully stocked kitchen blending antique charm with modern amenities. Every effort ha been made to ensure that guests have all they need to prepare meals for both indoor and outdoor dining.

Just past the kitchen is a sunny hallway leading to the laundry and shower rooms. A washer and dryer, drying rack, laundry baskets and detergent, ironing board and iron are provided. The separate shower room provides guests with a convenient place to wash up upon returning from hiking or biking in Acadia. Shelves hold fluffy towels, and a hairdryer and variety of soaps are provided.

Four steps down from the rear hallway is the charming patio room. Surrounded by antique glass windows and featuring a brick floor, this large space has comfortable outdoor furniture for relaxing, as well as a table with wooden dining chairs and a cooling ceiling paddle fan. Just outside the back door is the gas grill, and a picnic table is placed in the shade across the big fenced backyard.

The second floor has four comfortable bedrooms with a range of bed sizes. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed with memory foam mattress. There is a room with a queen-sized bed, a room with a double brass four-poster, and a room with two twin beds. A pack-and-play and a wooden toddler bed are available upon request.

While we hope our visitors come to Ledgelawn Cottage to relax, we also provide a second-floor office equipped with computer, multi-function printer, and high speed internet Wi-Fi which is available throughout the house.

A skylit full bath with shower tub, towels, hairdryer and soaps completes the second floor.

Ledgelawn Cottage is a non-smoking, no pet vacation home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. It was so convenient and welcoming on every level. My 84 year old mother (who was a home economics teacher) commented that it's the best equipped place that she has ever rented.

For me, it was the perfect place to gather our grown daughters from all over the country for a precious few days of family bonding with our extended family.

We just loved it here!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation in Maine this summer. The house was large with so many rooms. We played games in the dining room. Sat and enjoyed the view from the front porch. Had a pizza family dinner on the back porch at night time. The bedrooms were a nice size. All the beds were very comfortable. The house was decorated beautifully and came with the extra essentials you needed. We left things in the refrigerator too. The bathrooms had cleaning supplies and extras you might need. It was so easy walking to town. We only needed our cars to go to Acadia National Park. We did a lot of walking. We all went whale watching, kayaking and shopping in the cute stores. My kids went on a boat tour for 2 hours. All in all it was a wonderful experience and we couldn't have felt more at home in this cozy house. I would highly recommend staying here. Bar Harbor is beautiful. The park views are breathtaking.

What a great place

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every day of our stay at Ledgelawn Cottage. Its location close to town , stores the shore, and access to Acadia was perfect. No need to hunt for parking at night, or to fight traffic to shop or enjoy going out. The house was roomy enough for all of us and well equipped for rainy days' amusements and picnics in the fenced-in back yard. I would stay there again in a minute!

Awesome STay

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful experience at Ledgelawn this fourth of July Week. The house was immaculate and equipped with many of the little things we thought we'd need, but were right there to our suprise!

All in all a great experience. A nice and close walk to Main Street and Hannaford's, the local and only supermarket. There's no a.c. so we used the windows and it was perfect inside the house.

A few nits if we may. Ledgelawn Avenue has many homes with an open porch. We would have loved to have that as well. The porch on the cottage is closed in and gets pretty hot throughout a summer day as the windows do not open. At least we couldn't open them.

Back room also is sealed up and can get hot. One of these should definitely be opened up to get the outside air in. And on a final note, Wifi leaves a lot to be desired. All seven of us had issues with speed and accessibility in certain parts of the house even with the booster added to the second floor.

Would definitely recommend though and we would so do it again!!!

Perfect location for a visit to Bar Harbor and Acadia

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay. The house was a generous size for the four of us. We could easily walk to the downtown and to the trail head for Bar Island at low tide. We rented bikes in town and could ride to the carriage trails in Acadia (no bus available until June). May is a perfect time to visit if you want to avoid crowds and this house provides wonderfully easy access. Would stay here again!

Great location - would stay here again

  • 4 of 5

The location worked so well for us - quiet and off the main road but close enough to walk anywhere in town for shopping or walking across the bar. Groceries and many dining options were close as well. There was plenty of room for the six of us - more than we had a chance to use! Great enclosed porch off the front and another in back with a sizable yard. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms were fine with enough hot water for all. All necessary items were provided including bar soap and laundry detergent. Thanks for sharing your home and the great ideas for things to do and places to eat!
