Very nice cabin-style house in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We really loved our week at the Black Bear Log Cabin. The location is perfect for seeing southern part of Maine and the northwest up to the Rangeley Lake area. The White Mountains are the major area of focus for hikers. The cabin was very enjoyable to hang out on the deck with our morning coffee listening to the birds. In the evenings, we would unwind with a campfire or simply relax in the cabin after a long day of hiking. Accommodations were excellent from the comfy beds to the supplied linens. We only needed to cook. Anthony is a very good host who is accessible and wants to ensure you get the most out of your stay. He provided a list of things to do, but we only had time to complete half of them.

Things we did:

- hiked Rocky Gorge, Deer Hills, and the Champney Falls to Mount Chocorua trails. Mt. Chocorua was outstanding and the highlight of the trip.

- shopped in Bridgton on a rainy day before driving through the Rangeley Lake area. Rain had stopped after shopping, but we did not see any moose on the Rangeley drive. The Rangeley Inn Tavern was outstanding for dinner. Outstanding views.

- Maine Wildlife Park & Bath - The wildlife park is a small zoo-type park that was very nice. Very close up views of Maine wildlife with a lot of interesting facts. We packed a picnic lunch and spent half the day there before driving to Bath to see the Maritime Museum. If you like wildlife, definitely take the river boat cruise at the Maritime Museum. Check the trip times. We managed to catch the last boat trip of the day. It's worth it.

- Saco River Canoe and Kayak - We used the service on Main St in Frysburg, not the one on Route 302. It's a well run family business which supplies everything you need including transportation to and from the river. We took the 3-hr paddle and stopped at one of the river beaches during the paddle for a picnic lunch.

- visited Sabago Lake area - very nice to walk around.

- resturants- Campfire Grille was very good, but the Ruby Slippers was an outstanding breakfast spot. We saved the Ruby Slippers for our last breakfast in Maine as we headed out. Nice to eat breakfast with a view of Crystal Lake.

Owner's Response: Chris, Your comments really touched me. My family and crew work so very hard to make your vacation unique. Maine is a great year round vacation area and we are so happy when other people can come and make great memories for a lifetime. Thanks for visiting us and we would love to see you again some time. If you ever have a chance to come to the amazing Fryeburg Fair in early October it is an amazing opportunity especially where it coincides with peak leaf season. Have a great rest of your summer. Beautiful, relaxing, clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin for a getaway with some friends. The cabin is beautiful and well kept. It was very clean on arrival, and had some nice welcoming touches. Anthony was attentive and let us know he was available if we needed anything at all. Over all the property is well managed, and we deeply enjoyed our stay. The cleaning crew even called one of our party when they found he left his iPad behind! Very well managed, you can tell the family takes pride in their home. Thank you for sharing it with us. Only wish we could have stayed longer.
