When my wife and I moved to New Orleans over 30 years ago, we came from coastal areas and missed the ocean. That is until we discovered incredible beaches of Pensacola, Fl. We fell in love with Perdido Key and were fortunate enough to barely be able to purchase a place there, the first Ledlow. Unfortunately that was destroyed by Ivan, and the following year Katrina hit New Orleans. After 4 years of working on Katrina problems we turned our attention to an empty lot at Perdido Key. We finished our new beach house in 2010, trying to keep the advantages of our old place while improving upon it as well.
Sam & Gila Lehrer purchased this townhome in 2010
Restaurants, golf, shopping (incredible tangiers outlet mall) Pensacola Naval/Air base (Home of the Blue angels who have practice shows) all are within a 15 to 30 min drive.
Our place is peaceful and calm, in a less developed area of Perdido Key so the beach is never crowded. It’s near restaurants, shopping and entertainment and all the beach action - it’s just the action is not next-door.
Perdido Key is the western most Island of Florida, close to the Alabama state line. It is know for its snow white sand, beautiful gulf water, and low density buildings. Indeed more that 50% of the land on the Island is excluded from development by Federal and State law. However despite the restrictions on the Island, there are the modern conveniences close by that one expects to enjoy while at the beach. Shopping for groceries is only a 10 to 15 minute drive including Winn Dixie, Walmart super center, Target as well as others. Golfing is available on the Island about 5 - 10 minutes away in Florida, or 30 minutes in Alabama. Shopping is everywhere, most notably at the Tangiers out Mall in Foley, Alabama about a 25 - 30 min drive. Charter boats for deep sea fishing are only a 10 to 15 minute drive away. A water park, miniature golf , a zoo and many other activities are also close by in either Alabama, or Florida. Finally the Naval Air Station, home of the elite Blue Angles Fright Crew is only about 20 minutes drive. At Perdido Key you can have it all.
