New home 2013. 3 bedroom home, Blue Sky located in the 4WD, Wild horse area. This house is within only a couple of blocks from our other two houses, #354723 & #74815. We are calling this house Blue Sky for the Allman Brothers Band because we hope that all of our guests have 'blue skys and sunny days' during their stay. Enjoy stainless steel appliances, granite kitchen and bathroom counters, hardwood floors throughout. Large exterior rear deck that faces the ocean and canal with a bar table and chairs. Sit on front porch to watch the sunsets over the sound. Have your morning coffee on the rear deck to watch the sunrise. This new home has a hottub outside on the rear lower deck. Horses will come visit while you relax in the tub. There is a washer/dryer for laundry, microwave, dishwasher, large refrigerator w/icemaker, smoothtop cookstove for easy cleanup. Our kitchen is well stocked with plates, barware, pots, pans ect... The master bedroom is a king bed with a private bath. The other 2 bedrooms are a queen bed and 2 bunk beds. They share a full bath.

Carova Beach is convenient for families with young children because it is not necessary to walk to the beach. You can load the beach chairs, coolers, toys ect... into the back of a truck/suv and drive them to the beach. You can sit right next to your vehicle and pets are welcome on the beach.

This home is located in the 4x4 area (4 wheel drive) It is approximately 9 miles past the end of the paved roads.

About Brenda DiBenedetto

We are from Coatesville, PA , which is a small town between Lancaster and Philadelphia, PA.. Our kids have grown up on this beach and have learned to drive on this beach :) We like to just sit on the beach near the surf while the horses parade in front of us.

Brenda DiBenedetto purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Brenda DiBenedetto chose Outer Banks

We purchased our first property in Carova in 2001 because a good friend of ours showed us this area and we thought that it was so much fun driving on the beach, exploring the area and watching the horses. He owns a house in Corolla and has purchased a lot in Carova. We are lucky to have several other friends that also have come to the Carova Beach area.

Family fun time!

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Blue Sky! We loved seeing the horses each morning and going on little adventures looking for more. A quick drive to the beach made trips easy for seashell searching and ghost crabbing at night. The owners were quick to respond with any questions and provided great suggestions on what to bring our stay. If you are looking to get away and enjoy time with family and friends this place is great!

Potential to be amazing but missed the mark

  • 3 of 5

The home was in a fabulous location on the canal and we had lots of wild horses visit us daily. The home itself is a great layout and offers nice lounging space, but the finishes were not up to par. All the lamps were broken, furniture was as basic as could be (felt very 2nd or 3rd hand), pillows and mattresses were old and stained. The home was tidy when we arrived but very dirty. Dog hair was everywhere and counters were sticky. We spent a couple hours cleaning and sweeping before we settled in. The amount of dog hair we swept up was phenomenal. It didn't appear that anyone had "really cleaned" the home in quite some time. Exterior needed attention too. Out door furniture was basic and kayaks were old, faded, very basic, and leaky. Front door was opened when we arrived too, which was very scary. I realize they tell you to bring your own paper goods, towels, linens, etc. But it would be nice to have a basic starter kit (roll of TP, paper towels, hand soap, etc.). The home is so remote that the closest place to get supplies is a gas station that is 20 minutes away. We loved the remoteness, but when you forget to pack the basics, it is really a long trip "into town".

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review - this home is all hardwood flooring and I think that the dust bunnies can run and hide from our cleaners. We have our home professionally cleaned before each guests arrival. I do know that the granite can have a "sticky" feel from the sealants used but I can assure our guests that they have been cleaned. The Kayaks are brand new and do not leak - (around 2 years old) the sun in the Outer Banks fades everything including the outdoor furniture. I am not sure how to respond to the furniture critic - I used "This End Up" furniture because it is extremely durable and holds up to the guests. I painted it white to give it a "beachy" look - I make no apologies for that - As for the "broken lamps"? I was not informed of any broken lamps. This guest was from out of town and we spent a lot of time attempting to make her visit one that she would enjoy. The hurricane Joquain was off the coast and we were giving her frequent updates. I try to make all of our guests stay as enjoyable as possible. I am sorry that this house fell short of her expectations.

Carova Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this rental!! It was the perfect location to spend a long weekend relaxing at the beach. The home is even better than the pictures and we couldn't have asked for nicer accommodations. Everything was up-to date and tastefully decorated. The owner was very nice to work with as well. We would definitely return to this rental in the future.

Some hiccups

  • 2 of 5

If your family expects fresh and clean, this is not the rental for you. Our family has rented many vacation properties in the past, we can honestly report, this was the most "off standard". The home appeared to not have been professionally cleaned upon arrival. Furniture was stained, ripped, bed pillows stained, ripped mattress covers, dishes left in the dish washing machine from previous guests, dog hair on comforters and carpets. Sticky surfaces, dirty windows..... could go on and on. We contacted owner right away and provided photos to owner upon returning home to insure we would not be charged the cleaning fee, only $30 was deducted from the $100 plus. Sad that this was our experience, because otherwise the home is newly built. Other issues: broken outdoor furniture made it impossible to dine outside on the deck, or more then one lay out on loungers. We traveled by air, so to arrive with no standard, courteous supplies was another disappointment. No toilet paper, no paper towels. Before being able to comfortably settle in to this property, expect to put in a bit of cleaning time. Not our idea of relaxation. The location was nice, and having the wild horses come unto the property occasionally was very pleasant!! Had also wished the property owners had more effectively communicated specifically what it entails to drive the 9 miles on the beach to get back and forth onto the paved areas of OBX. For out of state folks, be advised that you will need to rent a hearty 4WD vehicle to do the off road sand drive. Also be for-warned, the sulpha odor of the water was so noxious, that we actually decided to spend a few days elsewhere..... an unplanned expense. Be aware also, although listed deep in the contract info. provided by owner, linens are not provided, so if you plan to travel by air, you will need to stop in at the local Home Goods store to grab your supply of sheets and towels. We very much enjoyed our time on beautiful OBX, but would not recommend this particular property.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We appreciate your feedback. This guest obviously did not read all of the information that we provide on both our website and in the check in information. We give all of our guests a list of items to bring, tide charts, driving on the beach instructions. I am sure if they had read all of the information that we provide they would have had a more enjoyable vacation. We have always tried to provide a home that is above our guests expectations. We refunded the guest a partial cleaning fee because the house had been cleaned. The guest from the week prior had broken the table top and we have since replaced the table. Mattress covers and pillows are stained and ripped weekly and we keep them in stock to replace when necessary.

Amazing experience

  • 5 of 5

Our family prefers more underdeveloped beaches where the focus is more on the beautiful surroundings and adventures you can have. This place was perfect. There was plenty of space for our family of 5 (kids are 7,5 and 2).

On one drive to the beach we saw 18-20 horses. Within the first 2 hours of checking in one came to visit house. We got pictures of them on the beach etc. There were rabbits and frogs. Overall it was a magical experience for the kids (and us) and our minds were blown daily.

This house is great, really home-y. The hot tub was great for days that you need a break from sand in your bathing suit or to end a day of adventure. We'll absolutely come back, highly recommend it to everyone that haven't had the opportunity to visit the outer banks yet. Make sure to have 4 wheel drive and don't roll your eyes at reducing tire pressure like my husband did the first day!

Wondefull place to stay for a small group

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful and quiet location. The house is great! Just perfect size for a small group.

If you a looking for a quiet location to get "away from it all" then this is a place. Good book, fresh cup of tea, and you are in paradise. A group of horses come visit daily.

Carova Beach is a unique secluded beach that still has the wild mustangs roaming free. When you stay in Carova, you will not be disappointed with the tranquility and you will be planning your return before your vacation ends. There are no paved roads and it offers tours of the area and the wild horses. We are 9 miles north of the paved roads and the driving on the beach is fun for all. Carova is the only northern beach in the Outer Banks that has a full canal system that leads out to the Albermarle Sound that you can fish, crab and kayak. The canals and sound are alot of fun to explore and see all kinds of wildlife. This home has 2 kayaks for guests to use to explore
