Overview

About the property

Large greatroom w/loft open above. 3BR, 2.5BA sleeps 10+

'Schuss Platz' is a traditional ski chalet with a large deck overlooking the valley. It is located a short walk from the top ski lodge parking lot on a very desirable street. There are 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths located on the first floor with a greatroom. The cathedral ceiling greatroom has a fireplace, large dining table, bar and a kitchen. There is a large deck across the back with a view of the deer paths through clearings in the woods. Overlooking the greatroom is a large vaulted ceiling loft sleeping/play area adjacent to a bedroom and bath. The loft has sliding glass doors to a balcony at the front. This was originally designed to be a 5 bedroom house but the loft was opened up, as well as, the 2 bedrooms below were enlarged so there is alot of room in this 1800+-SqFt chalet It is tastefully decorated with some antiques co-mingled to give a homey feel. The side entrance opens into a mudroom for boots, coats and laundry. The opposite entrance opens into the greatroom. The house is on pilings with two catwalk entrances (1 with no steps!). Driveway is at street-grade with room for 3 cars.

About Dart Alsmeyer

Hi, we are Helen & Dick and family (3 generations). We puchased this lot decades ago, had a cedar shell erected and have assisted tradesman complete the interior to our liking. It has been a great place for the extended family to gather since they are spread from Philly to North Carolina and this is a good central location. We have enjoyed watching the resort grow and add amenities (especially liked the additional ski slopes and golfing). This property was recently opened up to vacation rentals and look forward to sharing our home away from home.

Dart Alsmeyer purchased this chalet in 1976

Why Dart Alsmeyer chose Shenandoah Valley

This is a superbly located chalet on the mountain near the top for views and proximity to the ski slopes. The open floorplan with the greatroom and loft above keeps everybody in close proximity and great for gatherings. There are 2 secluded and somewhat quiet bedrooms at the front of the house for those so inclined to sleep away their time here (not recommended though).

What makes this chalet unique

The gingerbread exterior makes you feel like you are at a Swiss chalet and the theme is carried throughout.

great place

  • 5 of 5

We loved being right in the middle of everything. It was nice for us to have all of that space and the kids actually wanted to hang at the house rather than going out. Things are a bit outdated but everything works perfectly. AC was amazing in the entire house. Would definitely go back

Good deal but needs some tlc

  • 3 of 5

The rental was in need of a few safety updates. We traveled with 4 children: 2 toddlers, 1 newborn and 1 preschooler. There were also 2 dogs. Unfortunately there were two places, 1 in the loft area and one on the deck where the slats on the railings were not wide enough to prevent our children/dogs from falling through. The owner responded that the board on the deck had simply fallen off and was easily popped back on. While I'm glad this was an easy fix, I can't help but wonder how easily it would fall off again in the future. I'm thankful we didn't find out the hard way. Some other updates are needed as well as there is general wear and tear but for the price we paid, this was somewhat to be expected.

Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We reserved this home for a family getaway and it worked out perfectly. The home could use a little updating but the accommodations were what we needed for 2 families and the rental process was easy.

Comfortable but not fancy.

  • 3 of 5

Interior comfortable, roomy but utilitarian. Needs some updates and maintenance, particularly on interior wall materials and a coat of paint on the exterior. Interior seems gloomy -- probably because almost all lights are very low wattage. Rear deck is pleasant and peaceful.

My stay at Massanutten.

  • 4 of 5

The chalet was very nice and accommodated my family. We were all very comfortable.the views were great. Gotten to see deer and baby squirrels. I will say that the electronics need an upgrade. And the lightening needs some work. But we were very happy with our stay. I will recommend it to my friends. Thank You Dart for letting us stay.

great cabin for a fun weekend

  • 4 of 5

Some friends and I had a great time playing golf for the weekend. The cabin was exactly as advertised and easy to roll in and out of.
