Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

ONE BEDROOM COTTAGE MARTHA'S VINEYARD

VERY REASONABLY PRICED!!

GREAT LOCATION

10 min walk to Martha's Vineyard's beautiful State Beach and 5 minute bike ride to Edgartown’s shops and restuarants! Bright sunny cottage, right off Beach RD, adjacent to the Island’s extensive bike path connecting you to the all of Martha's Vineyard's 5 towns and beaches. This location can’t be beat! Perfect for a couple’s easy week at the beach. You won’t be looking for parking, just stroll or bike to the beach in the morning. Miles of wooded trails with water view across the street for a morning walk or jog, then a quick rinse off in the outside shower.

GETTING AROUND

In the evening walk, bike or take the bus to either Oak Bluffs or Edgartown for dinner and nightlife. The bus stop is 50 feet from your front door and comes every 15 min in the summer. There is parking for two cars but many guests don’t even bring a car, you don’t really need one from this location. It's only a 15 minute bus ride from the Oak Bluffs ferry and the bus accommodates bikes.

ROOMS & LAYOUT

The bedroom is a separate room off the kitchen and has a double bed with antiique brass headboard, ceiling fan, dresser and plenty of hooks for clothes, towels etc.. Ample sized eat in kitchen with antique pine table and chairs. Bathroom is accessible from kitchen or bedroom. Living room is off the kitchen and large enough to comfortably accommodate two couches, one of which is a pull out bed. Being on the opposite side of the cottage from the bedroom one could easily take a nap in the bedroom while the other relaxed watching a movie in the living room. Plenty of storage for luggage in huge closet/laundry room off the living room. Cottage is about 800 SQ'.

AMMENITIES

Beautiful pine floors and freshly tiled bathroom. Cable TV, New Blue Ray player, 32 inch flat screen TV and WIFI included.

We finished some great improvements to the cottage's outside space last spring including a new pine fence for privacy, new outside shower and crushed oyster shell BBQ area.

HISTORY

The cottage is part of a complex of buildings which once made up the historic Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy. This recently renovated cottage served as it's creamery building. The Martha’s Vineyard COOP Dairy was an operating dairy and milk bottling facility until the mid 1960's. During its hayday, all the island’s farmers brought thier milk to be processed and bottled here. The owners unit was the Dairy’s barn and is behind the cottage on the property.

We are year round residents and would be glad to help out with some tips to make your stay a memorable one.

Have a great summer!

Mike and Sandy

HERE'S A FEW FUN THINGS GOIN' ON NEARBY

BIKING - Great location as a base camp for biking the island. Bring your own bike or easily rent one, bike rental shop is just a 10 minute walk toward town, they also will deliver.

FISHING - Just a 1/2 mile away the bend in the road beach offers some of the best surfcasting on the vineyard, head another 1/2 mile down the road and drop a line off big bridge, great spot for Stripers and Blues.

CLAMMING - Just a ten minute walk is Sengekontacket pond by far one of the very best clamming spots on the Island.

CRABBING - 5 minute walk toward the beach is a colvert where the salt pond rushes under the road. Great spot for catching crabs.

KITE SURFING - Well known for its great windsurfing, Sengekontacket pond is also quickly becoming known as one of the best places in the east coast for kite surfing. Vineyard native, Rob Douglas, earned the title of fastest kite sailor in the world & can be regularly found rippin' it up on Sengekontacket pond.

KAYAKING - On the far side of the State Beach, 10 min by bike, Kayaks can be rented by Island Spirit Kayak. They also offer great day and sunset tours island wide.

BRIDGE JUMPING - One mile down the road, nothing like Jumping off State Beach's big bridge! You'll regularly find kids and adults alike enjoying the 10' plunge into the cool waters of the Vineyard Sound on a hot summer day.

SNORKELING

Nothing like the Caribbean, but the waters here are typically surprisingly clear. Floating around the rock jetties of either of the two bridges along State Beach you can ride the current in or out of Sengekontacket pond. Small fish, conch, starfish, crabs and the occasional Stripped Bass are your quarry. The free ride in the current is worth the effort. After 15 years living here this is still one of my favorites on a hot day!

My wife, Sandy and I have been year round residents of Martha's Vineyard for the past 15 years. We moved to the Island from NYC in 1994 and are raising our two kids, Sam 7 and Charlotte 15 on the Island.

Mike purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Mike chose Edgartown Area

What makes this cottage unique

The location is incredibly convenient to the beach and both Edgartown and Oak Bluffs.

Great place with a fantastic location

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Cute, clean cottage, exactly what you think of for beach vacation. Only downside is the bed is very small, although it is comfortable. Had a great stay, thanks Mike!

Relaxing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks so much to Mike and Sandy for such a wonderful vacation week! The cottage was everything the listing said it would be. It was close to Edgartown, a short ride to Oak Bluffs, and steps from a great path for walking and riding bikes. Martha's Vineyard is such a great place to unwind and to get on "island time," and that's exactly what we did. We loved all of the little decorative touches in the cottage, too! I don't think we could have asked for a better week!

September vacationers

My husband and I rented this property for Labor Day week. We were very happy with the location, it was very easy to go anywhere on the island without having to worry about a parking place when we got back since the property has its own driveway. The house was rustic but very clean. The best thing about the property was the owner who was available to respond to any concerns or questions we had. We would recommend this property to anyone who is not looking for a vacation home with high end amenities, but wifi and tv worked perfectly and location was the best. Always appreciated the location after returning from the hustle and bustle of the town centers. Enjoyed it very much.

As Goldilocks would say, "Just right!"

  • 5 of 5

Great little cottage.! A simple space created from what was the Edgartown Dairy many years ago. Location was perfect for my dogs with hiking trails and the bike path right across the street. After a good morning walk (along naturally beautiful paths), they were content to snooze in the AC cottage while I went to the beach, or meandered around the Island. Though close to town, felt tucked away from the busyness... Bright starry nights, winding vines, lavender and flowers, an amazing outdoor shower and friendly owners! Really, what more do you need?

Charming Centrally Located Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A charming cottage in a perfect location for island sightseeing! Quiet and cozy with all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay. It is centrally located between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. The living and dining areas are spacious and the layout is convenient. The wifi is more than sufficient and cable tv on the flat screen was great for winding down after a busy day exploring the island. The owners greeted us upon arrival and made themselves available to us throughout the week for anything we may need. They also provided island information to make our trip easier to navigate. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Island Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful cozy cottage strategically located fjust out of Edgartown for the best of day-tripping all over Martha's Vineyard. Whether to Chappaquidick or Menemsha, you are set for easy access and participating in every facet of island life from sighing to organic farming. Very spacious living room with great flat screen reception and large kitchen and eating area with beautiful hardwood floors throughout. Wonderful water pressure and plenty of hot water in the newly done bathroom and shower to take the daily grime away. Every evening we enjoyed a nightcap while seeing all the stars that we never see in the city and listening to the crickets - mulling over all the beauty we had seen and things we learned about MV that day. This island along with the cozy cottage will lower your blood pressure like nothing else. Serenity defined. Be sure to meet Bella, stately Grand Dame Golden, who also calls this property home.
