House, 4 Bedrooms , 3 Baths , (Sleeps 12)
We met in high school and were married in Santa Cruz, California. As our family grew, and as California "grew", we migrated to Central Oregon. It was a wonderful experience, living in the high desert country, amid the Juniper forests, with a crisp/dry climate, and wide open spaces. We started a business designing and crafting a line of Christmas decorations, Santas and Porcelain Angels. Our business grew rapidly and we moved to Southern California to be closer to wholesale markets, suppliers, and vendors. It was a formative and exciting time, selling at gift shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Dallas; and establishing accounts with stores such as Nordstroms, Macy’s, Disney World, and many gift shops around the country. Two appearances on QVC with Susan's collectible angels sold out in minutes, and established Susan as the "Angel Lady". Thousand Oaks, California was a wonderful place to raise kids, and build a business, but, the time came to find something better. And we did.
Owner purchased this House in 1987
Why Owner chose Livingston
We chose this exceptional part of the world after we visited and camped in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area. It reminded us our years in Central Oregon. We decided this is where we wanted to raise our family. When we made the decision to move here we placed an ad in the local Livingston paper: “Wanted: 3-4 bedroom house with acreage and a shop/barn to lease with option to buy. Five children, a well behaved dog, and a cat.” The most wonderful couple called us. We met them at the house, signed a hand written lease I wrote up on a yellow pad that day, gave them a check on a bank out of state, and moved in the next day. They loved our kids, and dog, and had five kids of their own! What sealed the deal was our children picking a bouquet of wild flowers and presenting it to the owners of the house. This is what we love about Montana. Real people. Another benefit was sending our four daughters to Pine Creek School, a two room schoolhouse just down the road, and the subject of a Norman Rockwell/Life Magazine cover many years ago.
What makes this House unique
When we moved here in 1987 we loved the spacious 3600 square feet and four bedrooms which was perfect for our family. But, the most important thing was the great shop/barn where we established our workshop and Susan’s design studio. It was unfinished, just a wide open space, and we had to refurbish it to our specs and heat it. But, it was perfect! What we really appreciated was the natural beauty, the mountains, the river, the Big Sky sunsets, the privacy, the seclusion, the opportunity to be away from the crowd, but, still, not too far, with Livingston about 10 miles away. A fax machine, (which weighed about 15 pounds, and cost $400, and used that awful thermal paper), and UPS pickup service, was all we needed in those days before the internet. We are centrally located in the Paradise Valley, close to Livingston and its fine restaurants and art galleries. The Paradise Valley is well renowned for its spring creek fishing venues, the nearby Pine Creek Lodge and Restaurant, Chico Hot Springs and its exceptional fine dining, and numerous hiking trail heads and Yellowstone River fishing accesses. Or, if you just want to kick back, relax, and not do a whole lot of tourist stuff, just come to our place and enjoy the view. We are kindred spirits if such is your preference…

This was perfect for us!
Our weekend was filled with cousins and other family members who had come to Montana to participate in the Alzheimer's walk. We lost our Grandmother and 4 different aunt/sisters to thsi devastating disease. This beautiful home allowed us to remember and honor our loved ones, as we laughed, (a lot) hugged, cried and remember all that was important for us to be together. A perfect location, a beautiful home and accommodations! We were so thankful to be able to come together here.
House in a great location, well maintained and has just about all you will need except food. About 45 minutes from Yellowstone. Fishing area a great plus. House does not have A/C, which we did not know, but fans were supplied. Downstairs comfortable and cool regardless, but up stairs would not cool down until late in the evening. I’m sure this would vary depending on time of year.
We had a great time.
Great house and location.
Owners were very nice and helpful. The location is great for a variety of activities around the Yellowstone Park area!!
Enjoyed the views and little details throughout. Owners are very friendly.
Just finished a 6 night stay. This is a well appointed home with exceptional views of the river and mountain range. Plenty of gathering areas for larger groups. The owners were responsive and helpful. Would stay again when in the area.
Spectacular views in a perfect location
This property in Paradise Valley, Pine Creek, lives up to “Paradise” name. The house is very well stocked, lovely caring owners, with views and wild life to excite anyone. My brother in law came with my sister and niece and declared it was his best trip ever at 68 and a world traveler. I concur. You will not want to leave but when you do great memories abound!
