About Mary Godddard
I've always been a small town girl. My hometown is Grand Island, Nebr. and that's the largest city I've ever lived in. For many years Ilived in Wahoo, Nebr. and that's where my children were raised and where I owned and operated a very successful beauty salon. In 1993 I had the good fortune to meet Laurel Goddard, I sold my salon to on one of my stylists and in 1994 married Laurel and moved to northwest Kansas where his cattle ranch was located. From Wahoo, Neb. 36 miles west of Omaha, to a ranch 4 1/2 hours from any major city was quite an adjustment, but I had found my paradise. I found out the business of ranching and farming is not only a job, but a way of life. The people who live here take care of their land and are fiercely protective of it. I learned to ride a horse, move cattle, bottle feed a calf, and fix fence. I went from one house cat to 15 farm cats, give or take a few, and our dog Nacho. We raise a garden, can fruits and vegetables, and make homemade jams from wild sand plums and grapes. I love the small town of Morland, 7 miles from the ranch where you can really get a homemade meal at the Prairie Junction Cafe. I work in the beauty salon, Charlene's Cut and Curl, a couple of days a week. That salon has customers from every town in a 30 mile radius. Morland refuses to die and the people of the town work together to keep it alive. We are just a few months from re-opening our country grocery store which will have a taste of the past and convinces of the modern day. We know our neighbors up and down the country road and are happy to see them pull into the driveway. Some people would find it difficult to live 4 1/2 hours form any major airport, but not me. I go to Italy almost every year to see my cousins, or San Francisco to see my daughter. We can get anywhere from here and here is where life is good.. We are free here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Come and see what I'm talking about. We're waiting for you. Mary

Great trip to NW Kansas
We had a great time. The three grandchildren loved the whole experience of the ranch and the Jayhawker Roundup and Rodeo. We will definitely do this again. Thanks Mary!
Cliff and his family were wonderful guests! I'm so happy they had a great time and I look forward to their return.
Thank you Cliff, for leaving the West Cabin in great condition and for observing all the house rules. I really appreciate it.
Five of us female cousins wanted a get away weekend at a location centrally located for all of us. I found the Goddard cabin on VRBO, and it was amazing. Just outside of Penokee and Hill City, it was secluded and quiet. The cabin was clean, comfortable, inviting, stocked with everything you need, just bring your food. Owners Mary and Laural are wonderful, friendly people. We had a great time and we be going back again.
Peaceful Country Retreat
This well-appointed cabin has everything you need to enjoy a blissful weekend - or more - in the rolling hills of Western Kansas. Sit on the porch and listen to all kinds of song birds, watch dear, rabbits, and other wild life, hear the beautiful rustle of cottonwoods trees. Inside, you'll find all the amenities of a fully equipped kitchen (including fresh cinnamon rolls and a dozen farm eggs the day we arrived - not guaranteed of course, but I'll bet Mary will have something special for you). Twin beds are comfy, bathrooms have several nice extras, and the cabin comes complete with it's own yellow lab should you feel inclined to sit a spell on the porch with him.
Home Away from Home
We stayed at Goddard Ranch during Spring turkey season in late April/early May 2015. I had TONS of questions for Mary before we booked the reservation and leading up to our arrival because we were bringing our wives and kids this year. Mary was awesome to work with and promptly answered all my questions which made me feel really good about the property we chose.
As we got close to town Mary gave some additional detailed directions that led us right to her front door. She was just as kind and accommodating in person as she was over email. She gave us a tour of the cabin, told us everything we needed to know about staying there and then let us get settled in. She returned later with fresh farm eggs, bacon, milk and orange juice. We were all set for breakfast the next morning!
After our good friends arrived and got settled Mary took us out to show us SEVERAL different areas where we were allowed to hunt (public WIHA is about a 30 second drive from the cabin). She had also received permission ahead of time for us to hunt on nearby private land and introduced us to some land owners. She knows the area VERY well and told us everything we needed to know, including where NOT to hunt.
The cabin was great for us. There were 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 3.5 and 1.5) and we had PLENTY of room. There are two bedrooms with multiple twin beds in each. Were had enough room in our bedroom to set up a pack & play for our 1.5 yr old to sleep in. Our friends were able to set up a small cot in their bedroom for their 3.5 year old. One of the bedrooms has its own bathroom and is connected to the laundry room. It was GREAT having a washer/dryer in the cabin. There is a nice big front porch on the cabin with a picnic table and plenty of other seating - great place to sit and relax at any time of day. The family room is HUGE with 2 couches (that could be folded out into beds if needed) and a large chair with ottoman. The cabin does come equipped with cable TV and wi-fi which was a nice feature. Mary also made arrangements for us to purchase a PPV boxing event that we were excited to see. The fridge was stocked with just about any condiments you could need and then some. The full kitchen had all the pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc that you could possibly need. Mary even tracked down a wagon for us to tote the kids around the property in. By the way, the cabin is on a BEAUTIFUL piece of land and there are horses grazing just steps from the front door. We will be back!!
Great Vacation/Hunting Lodge
We were very happy to stay at the Goddard Ranch in early May of 2015. We brought our entire families with us – 4 adults and 2 young children. The purpose was to hunt, but we found ourselves entertained in the beautiful West Cabin. Whether it was reading, playing board games, hiking, hunting or visiting on the front porch – we found plenty to do to enjoy a relaxing long weekend.
The owner drove a couple of us around the area pointing out the public land that we could hunt. It was great to get some “inside information” about the area. Thank you! We found the entire family to be quite friendly and would recommend the Goddard Ranch to others.
The property description was accurate and the cabin was very clean. We had clean linens and towels and a washer and dryer. The cabin also had some basic food available - pasta, coffee, sugar, flour...
