About Kathleen Farah

This has been a family home for 42 years. It has been lived in year round for the past 20 years until last year. We have relocated to Salem, New Hampshire for my younger children to complete their high school education. It is my hopes that if renting successfully is feasible, that I will return when I am able to retire.

Kathleen Farah purchased this house in 1972

Why Kathleen Farah chose Southern Coast of Maine

This is a beautiful home in a perfect location for a quiet family vacation. The home is clean and comfortable, fishing is fabulous, relaxation and swimming are a couple steps out the door. Myself, my brothers, and all of our children have learned to swim, tube, water ski and wake board on this lake.

Although you do not need to travel anywhere for fun; if it is your wish, you can be anywhere in 30-45 minutes for perfect day trips.

What makes this house unique

Our home is a place for our entire family to get together. Large, plentiful rooms and living space allows us to reunite for reunions, graduation parties, anniversary and birthday parties, showers, etc. When we are there, we never want to leave.

gorgeous lake and home

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was amazing. We are a family of 9, plus 3 dogs and we had more than enough room. The house has a perfect layout, plus everything we needed and more!

Very clean and spacious. My kids were never bored, gorgeous lake, swimming, games, paddle boat, row boat, numerous floats and much more. We will absolutely be coming back.

Love it here!!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented this house three years straight and have said "it's the best vacation we've ever had!!" It fits everyone we've invited the last few years and they've all enjoyed it, as well. It's always been clean, organized and tasteful, just as a lake house is accustomed to be. Yes, the house has years on it-BUT the character is what we enjoy the most!! The bedrooms are perfectly arranged and the owner has always returned emails/texts/calls if anything was needed. The lake is gorgeous, neighbors are quiet and property was clean every time we arrived. Perfect rental for large groups or even use as a simple get-away for couples. I highly recommend this house and will be back again next summer.

Owner's Response: Thank you anonymous! It has been my intent to maintain and improve the house. Updates were put on hold this year due to the new 100 foot lakefront stone shoreline that needed to replace the forty year old Gabian wall that fell last year. I will always strive to make improvements each year!

Great place to stay with your family

  • 5 of 5

I usually don't write reviews, but I can't say enough great things about the place! It was immaculate and the property was very well maintained. The property is extremely spacious and was the perfect fit for my family. The owner contacted me during our stay to check in and make sure everything was up to our expectations. She had great customer service and always returned my calls immediately. The lake is absolutely beautiful. It is an ideal place to a family of any size to stay at, even for extended family to come together and make memories to have for a lifetime. We are already looking forward to our time there next year!

A great vacation destination for our 3-generation family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this Square Pond house for the first time this year. There were 11 of us, from toddlers to grandparents. We were a bit apprehensive as first-time renters of this property after reading some negative reviews, which appear to be written by 2 people in the same party. We spoke to the owner and she did a very good job of putting the negative comments into the proper context, which set our minds at ease. My wife's initial words to me when we walked into the house for the first time were "this place is immaculate".

When you only have 4 hours on a Saturday to turn a house over to the next week's renters, there isn't much time to address unexpected repairs caused by the previous week's renters. This is especially true when it requires a one-hour round trip to the nearest store to purchase needed parts or materials. In our case, last week's party broke a sliding screen door. We would have been content to let this minor repair wait until the following Saturday, but the owner returned on Monday after work to make the repair.

It is a shame that negative reviews are posted here as they are trivial, exaggerated, or factually incorrect. Our entire family was fascinated by the photo album on the library shelves depicting all of the repairs and renovations that were made to this house a few decades ago. We all had a wonderful time, enjoyed the house, yard, and beach immensely, and look forward to another vacation here again next year.

Maintenance Needed

  • 1 of 5

Very tired property in need of a lot of maintenance: doors broken, windows cracked, many burned out light bulbs. Furnace could not provide even a warm shower; carbon monoxide alarm went off(power vent needs inspection/repair). Dock pipes had no covers; pipes had been pounded unprotected with a sledge hammer and had sharp metal shards on ends right where you would put your hands. It took three requests to have two ceiling tiles that were missing replaced. The property smelt of mold and mildew in the cellar. The area rugs there were very smelly, damp and dirty. Our bedroom's picture window had been cracked and was broken(Landlady pointed this out) but no one showed up to replace the broken glass. The lake and the location is terrific; it is a pity the property has been so poorly maintained.

Very disappointed

  • 1 of 5

We've rented vacation homes all over the country and never experienced this. The house was not ready at 3pm check in. Owner's kids were cleaning up after their week. We had to wait outside with coolers of perishables. Dirty kitchen. Delayed maintenance evident w. Broken windows, broken doors duck taped shut so you won't use, sporadic hot water, carbon monoxide alarm going off, cigarette butts and beer cans left in yard, dehumidifier (we were told to use it) leaked and flooded carpets that we had to drag outside to dry. Owner NOT responsive to our concerns. No effort to make good on this.

Lake is gorgeous. We will be back, but NOT here! We have already rented another house.

Pet fee $50 each/max$100 $50
Pet Fee $50
Cleaning Fee/trash Fee $200

The $200 security/cleaning/trash fee can be refundable; I leave it up to each renter to decide. I ask that the house be left as clean as it was found, that anything broken or damaged be replaced, and that the trash is disposed of according to our town’s law. No worries, though, I will be providing a checklist of how things should be left. Examples of what will be Included on the list will be things such as: 1. Furniture must be put back if moved – 2. Air conditioner must be removed and put away if used. – 3. Refrigerator/microwave must be emptied and wiped clean, etc. If you allowed your pet on the furniture, pet hairs removed. (Of course I ask that pets not be allowed on the furniture.)
However, given that you are on vacation, I certainly understand not wanting to deal with "a list." If that is the case, the $200 will be used as a cleaning fee and not be refunded.
