Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleep 2-4

Settled on a small hill, just off the old town Basseterre with fabulous views on the harbor and the caribbean sea, just a 3 min. walk away from the town beach and vegetable and fish market, lies the privately owned property Palms Court Gardens, surrounded by one acre lush, tropical gardens and a luxury infinity pool.

The property consists of the main house, housing the rooms of the owners, the kitchen for the restaurant (Open Mo - Sun: 9am - 5pm) and the Shell Works gift boutique, and an all wood cottage. The rental apartment is on the second floor of the cottage, offering the best view on the island of the historic town Basseterre, the harbour and the ocean with the neighbouring island Nevis in the background.

Being on the top floor of the wooden cottage, the apartment's ambiance profits from the open vaulted Caribbean style wood ceilings with its visible beams. The decor is held in a luxurious, mediterranean 'shabby chic' style. A fully equipped kitchen with enclosed dining/living space, a spacious bathroom with walk in shower and separate toilet, a library, free Wi-Fi, a large air conditioned bedroom with one queen size and one single bed (enough space to put another bed for a family with 2 children) and a large flat screen TV, Bose radio/CD player, offers everything you look for in your home away from home.

Palms Court Gardens is privately owned. Until 2003 it belonged to the Royal Bank of Canada who for many years had their managers staying at this property. In 2003 it was sold to a local business man and his wife - an arts and crafts teacher from Switzerland. The property and gardens then were completely transformed into a mediterranean/ Caribbean dream and opened to the public the first time in 2010. Although on a day with cruise ships in port, an average of 10 - 30 visitors are touring the garden and 10 - 15 day visitors are spending some time at the pool (9am - 5pm), the guests at the cottage still enjoy their full privacy, as the apartment is located on the second floor and out of the eye of the garden visitor.

The cottage was initially built for the family's own purposes; a design studio on the ground level and a one bedroom apartment on the second floor for their private guests. It is now offered for the first time for rent.

After the family purchased the property in 2003, a 7 year period followed of extensive restorations, re-landscaping, and adding a luxury infinity pool and the guest cottage. The family finally decided to share the beauty of the gardens and the stunning ocean, town and mountain views with the public. Carrying idea was to support the Children Educational Fund St.Kitts with the generated income. A special attraction at Palms Court Gardens is Shell Works

St.Kitts, with its production site and gift shop located between the guest cottage and main house. Jewellery, gift items and home accessories, all made from natural and local materials, are produced right on location and invite the visitor to watch and talk to the artisans.

Designed and restored for the private use, each inch throughout the garden, main house, patio and guest cottage is done with extraordinary style and class, and offering all the amenities your looking for your private home away from home.

Palms Court Garden is like a hidden gem. It is really a beautiful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

I fully enjoyed my stay and have decided this is where I’ll stay whenever I visit St. Kitts. The staff was amazing. They go above and beyond to accommodate you and assist you in anyway they can to make your experience a great one. The food was really good. Ms. Claudia the owner was off island when I was there but the way she stayed in touch with me it’s like she was there on the island. I really appreciated that. Ticoya ,Joy and Danielle were great. You can easily walk to downtown to the shops and restaurants. You will not be sorry you decided to stay at Palms Court Garden. Beautiful place and beautiful people.

Beautiful and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Palms Court Gardens for three nights. While busy sightseeing every day, I took time in the morning and in the evening to sit out on the wonderfully large balcony and just enjoy the view. It was spectacular! The cottage was very nice and the kitchen had every thing I needed. I moved to the Marriott for my last two nights and there is just no comparison. I missed the Palms Court Gardens. It gives you a true island feel and the location is very convenient. The staff were all super nice too. There is only the one guest cottage.... so good luck obtaining a reservation. But if you are lucky, you will enjoy your visit there.

Beautiful, comfortable - our absolute favorite place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We've visited St. Kitts several times, have always enjoyed a day at the pool at Palms Court, and always wanted to stay in its single guest house. This time, we did it! The house is lovely - beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The porch overlooking the pool and bay is simply stunning. The restaurant will bring your breakfast (or lunch, or early dinner) right up to "your" porch, which we did frequently. It was the perfect way to start the day. If you're looking for complete privacy, however, Palms Court will not be your cup of tea.. As noted by other reviewers, it is frequented by cruise ship employees and cruisers alike during the day. Apparently, this can sometimes get very crowded. We had no problems, however, as we spent our days doing other things on the island, and everyone is gone by late afternoon. Even the restaurant closes. (Order dinner early, and reheat in your kitchen later, if you'd like.) There are plenty of things to do and see on St Kitts. Enjoy breakfast with the best view in town, go out and explore, return for an afternoon swim, then cocktails at sunset, and you'll never know the crowd came and went! Occasionally, the restaurant opens in the evening for a private function. The owners will let you know if this will be occurring during your stay. As we were there during the holiday season, there were 3 evening events during our 10 day stay. Two were small affairs in the restaurant that we didn't even notice.Only one involved a larger crowd, and again, the owner let us know in advance and assured us we could request the party be toned down at any time. Honestly, it was a fairly loud affair, but it was the Christmas season, and we felt the company throwing the party was giving a gift to their employees. We just sat back and enjoyed the music. (We also hosted an evening event for friends on the island, and it was just wonderful.) The bottom line: the guest house is not the main business of Palms Court Gardens. It could not possibly support the maintenance of this gorgeous property. The owners are allowing you to stay in a spectacular cottage at a very reasonable price and are upfront about what that entails. The beauty, comfort, accommodating staff, and superb location of Palms Court more than make up for any issues created by the nature of the Palms Court Gardens' main business. Book this property with realistic expectations, and you will not be disappointed. We've stayed all over the island, and this is it. Relax and enjoy!

Truly Caribbean!

  • 4 of 5

Exactly as described! Clean, well stocked with essentials, relaxing environment. Had breakfast from the restaurant on site each morning, delivered up to the porch overlooking the ocean and the pool. We arrived for a late check-in, and the owner, Ernest Amory, gave us a complete tour of the grounds and cottage, shared a much needed and refreshing beverage, and made us feel like his home was ours for our time there. He checked on us each morning, even bringing coffee and rolls from the bakery he owns in town. Because he is from St Kitts, he can answer any question you have. You can see the cruise ships dock from the property and easily walk to that area. We did have daypass visitors at the pool each day, but it wasn't an issue for us. The shop on grounds has the cutest stuff. Adding the shell ornaments to my Christmas tree this year, but wish I could have purchased some bigger items. Just didn't want to deal with shipping or customs. Overall, I feel like we made a good friend in Ernest, and wife Claudia, although she wasn't there for our visit this time, but always quickly responded to questions while booking. Have worried about how the property faired with hurricane Irma and just hope all is well. Thanks for an awesome visit, Dana and Keith Seifert

Owner's Response: Hi Dana and Keith Many thanks for the time and effort you took to write such a detailed, informative and positive review, about which Ernest and I and our staff are very happy of course, as all of us try our very best to make the stay of our guests unforgettable. In this regard, I would be very appreciative as well, if you can let me know, why the star rating didn't make it up to 5 stars, so we can improve, what is not perfect as yet. Many thanks, and we will be very happy to welcome you any time again when you will be on St.Kitts. Claudia

Beautiful setting, lovely cottage, breathtaking views but hot and noisy.

  • 2 of 5

Palms Court is a beautiful place. The gardens are lovely, the cottage porch is fantastic, the views are amazing, the pool is refreshing, and the cottage amenities are good. However, there are two major issues with the cottage, in our opinion; first being the heat! Although there is air conditioning in the bedroom, which would have worked out for us, except, you cannot close the windows. So not only did it remain hot in the room it is a horrible waste of a resourse. The room never cooled off and the humidity was so high it was miserable. Even after a cool shower it was still way too hot. The open bedroom windows leads us

to our second complaint- to noise from the street. We felt like the loud and rowdy people on the street may as well join us in the bedroom. It was horrible; yelling, screaming, horns blowing, etc. And this was past 11:30pm. We excepted some noises- frogs chirping, leaves blowing- not something out of the jungles of Nicaragua. Sadly, we moved over to the Marriott.

We are not saying people should not go to Palms Court! What we are saying is that if you can adapt to the heat and noise you will love it. It is a pretty place and the food and pool are great!

Owner's Response: Hello Lynn I'm very sorry to hear that you had issues with heat and noise. What I can say is, that 80-90% out of the year always a nice breeze is blowing from the ocean. That's why we have burglar proof mosquito screens all around, so the windows and doors can stay open to let the breeze in. This is also the reason we have plantation shutters in the master bed room (without glass), so the cooling ocean breeze can go straight through the whole apartment from front to back, while providing shade and the authentic Caribbean look at the same time. For those days without much breeze, there are additional ceiling fans in the bed-, living- and bathroom. Regarding the noise in the street behind the bedroom, I must say, that I'm very surprised, as you make it sound like it was noisy during your whole stay. The road behind the bedroom though, is only a side street with resident traffic only, and not a main street at all. The barking dogs in the neighbourhood and the chirping tree frogs could rather be a problem for some than yelling or screaming people or blowing horns. This is the first time I hear of anything like this from our guests, and also have not experienced it myself either, when staying at the cottage. It seems to me, that you have been extremely unlucky staying during a time with first only little breeze, and second some of the neighbours having had a cheerful Caribbean gathering in the road right outside the cottage, of which I cannot imagine that they were repeating this every evening. Anyhow, I'm really sorry to hear that your stay has not been as you have expected, and we decided therefore to pick up your idea for glass windows, and will replace the plantation shutters with wooden French windows to still keep the Caribbean charm, and to avoid any noise/heat problems in the future.
