I'm a quiet single working man; I've lived in LA for 14 years.
Walter Barnett purchased this studio in 1999
We arrived from Atlanta on Thursday for a Saturday wedding in the Silver Lake area. This studio was perfect for our needs. It was absolutely spic and span clean. It had everything needed for a short stay. The kitchen was well equipped with fridge, stove and micro oven, coffee pot, toaster, etc. I did see a variety of spices in the cabinet if one was up to a bit of fancy cooking but we ate dinners out at the several excellent and reasonable places nearby, especially the Vietnamese place. Walter left a few pages of recommended restaurants nearby which we found helpful. . Parking out front was an added convenience. My husband was in love with the modern rocking chair for reading in the room and also the privacy and comfort of the patio in the rear. The neighborhood seems totally safe and attractive and there was a new Whole Foods conveniently located one mile from the apt. We enjoyed walking the 'hood and seeing all the various residences and gardens nearby even though the streets were either uphill or down. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting LA as an alternative to a hotel with all of the privacy that came with it. We were there from Thursday until Tuesday and were well pleased with our accommodations.
(We did hear the footsteps above as others had alluded to but it was not all day or all night and we took it as part of apt. living.)
I stayed at Walter's place the entire winter of 2016 and could not have been happier. The unit is adorable, a little studio under Walter's home with windows that swing out onto a view of the Silverlake hills--palm trees, little houses, etc. The kitchen is tucked into a corner but fully able to make a meal--gas stove, full fridge, etc. The space is just right, very minimal, modern and clean. Best of all there is a little terrace outside with a lemon tree where I happily worked all winter long, surrounded by hummingbirds. (The Wifi reaches outside). Walter was a wonderful, warm host, always reachable via text. He set up a mailbox for me to put my mail in. There is a washer/dryer right off the studio unit. The neighborhood is amazing...you are a 5 minute walk from a park surrounding the reservoir where everyone runs, walks, suns, takes their dog, and you are about a 15 minute walk from the Sunset Strip with its array of bars, cafes, restaurants, hipsters, etc. Just around the corner from the house is a 7/11, a high-end coffee place, a great ice cream place, sushi, Thai, and more if you just want to pop out fast. I think this is the prettiest and coolest neighborhood in L.A, and many agree! Can't say enough about Walter's studio or about Walter!
We enjoy stay. It was comfortable, VERY clean and having a full kitchen and laundry room was great! We enjoyed taking a walk around the reservoir each day which is at the end of the street. The only reason we gave a 4 on experience was that we could hear footsteps upstairs pretty loudly. But, we also realize that is to be expected in older homes. We would definitely love to come back and stay here in the future!
We have stayed four nights in this well decorated studio with bamboo wooden floor in a quiet neighbourhood 15 minutes by car from downtown. It is well equipped with cooking material and some spices and has a fast internet. The owner was very helpful and printed the invitation letter for the visit of the Getty villa. The washing machine and the laundry are in an attached room and can be used free of charge. The studio is part of a small wooden house and is lying on a small hill looking to some nice bushes, trees and to the other hillside. For people who are very sensitive in regard to noise please notice that you hear the refrigerator cooling and you hear every step of people staying upstairs which was no problem because Walter was a quiet guy. If you plan your visit to LA please plan what to do and select an accomodation close to the area you want to visit because traffic is terribly slow.
This is an excellent apartment right in the heart of Silverlake. Clean, comfortable with outside patio, own bathroom and access to washing facilities, it is also in an ideal location to explore the area and LA.
