About Charlie and Kathy Zigler

Our family of three live in Illinois where we have resided in our same home for 28 years. Charlie is a retired carpenter where he worked for the same company for 33 years. Kathy is a Medical Lab Technician, at one of the areas largest hospitals, and Mara is a college student, studying to be a strength and conditioning coach. Time spent together and with other family and friends is the most important thing to us. Happily ever After provides us the privacy and fun we need to do this.

Charlie and Kathy Zigler purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Charlie and Kathy Zigler chose Gatlinburg

When we visited the Smoky Mountains for the first time a few years ago, we decided then that we wanted to be able to spend more time and possibly retire to this Beautiful, Magnificent, area. After searching during many trips back to the area, we knew immediately when we found our cabin that it was the perfect cabin for us. Happily ever After is not perched directly on the edge of a mountain, it has a yard with a park-like setting complete with patio and picnic table. We feel close to our values here and have the privacy we desire. We are able to spend time together without any outside pressures, or if we want, we can join the many area activities, just minutes away, where we have met people from all around the world.

What makes this cabin unique

We knew after purchasing our cabin that it needed a little tender loving care to make it that special place in other peoples hearts, as it was in ours. We knew immediately that we wanted to enlist the help of a wood-carver friend we had met on one of our trips. Working with him, we created that fairy-tale cabin that had developed in our hearts. Happily ever After is trimmed out in hand carved trim, featuring many of the animals and birds that you will see in the Smoky Mountains. Only Good-Memories can be made at Our 'Happily ever After'!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Kathy and Zig,

We want to thank you for an absolutely wonderful week. Quaint, comfortable, homey, adorable cabin. Beautiful scenery, fabulous fall colors! Saw Mama bear and her 2 cubs! Lots of turkeys. Nature at its finest! A vacation we will always remember. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. It was truly a great smoky mountain retreat!

Perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

This cabin completely blew me away. The pictures do not do it justice. Once I saw it in person I was just amazed. From the downstairs game room to the three decks with the view! It was perfect. Can't beat the location either. Just five minutes from Gatlinburg and all the attractions. I'm definitely visiting the Smoky Mountains again and I would love to stay in this cabin for another vacation.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend Happily Ever After if you are wanting that " real" cabin feel. The cabin is decorated beautifully, and the layout gives you great mountain views. We were also fortunate to have bears visit us on two different nights while staying at the cabin. Everything you need is provided with this cabin which enabled us to travel light. Great stay, great cabin and great visit to the Smokies.

Awesome Time

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time in the Smokies and enjoyed our stay here at Heavenly Ever After. The decor is very true to the mountains, and the layout of the cabin captures the best views of the mountains...especially from the top deck. We were also fortunate to see bears visit the cabin on two different nights during our stay. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting reasonably priced accommodations in the mountains. If given the opportunity, we would definitely stay again.

Loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Happily Ever After. We have a family of 5 and were all very comfortable. My husband and I loved waking up to the mountain views every morning. The children enjoyed the game room and swing outside. The cabin was clean and the owners were great to work with. I had a question about the alarm and it was answered very quickly and happily. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your cabin.

Gorgeous, Perfect Location, Excellent Service

  • 5 of 5

The interior of this cabin is a work of art throughout! Beautiful woodwork craftsmanship make even the "little things" (windows, bedframes, chairs, etc.) all artistic wonders. Well stocked kitchen and many amenities. Helpful well-placed instructions from the owners. This interior beauty made for a magical escape since it rained most days of our stay.

Outstanding customer service! I was weary about online scams for vacation property rental, but Kathy answered all my pre-arrival questions promptly, and the resulting confidence I gained in the legitimacy of the property was a decisive factor in my decision to choose Happily Ever After. During our stay, TLC was evident in the clean, well cared for interior and attention to decor details.

Perfect location. The only way to reside closer to the National Park entrance is a motel in town. Much better to be a couple miles away from town's tourism on higher, wooded ground that affords distant mountain views deckside amidst nature's serenity.

Advice follows. To drivers: As someone else conveyed, the driveway is a pickle, but as long as you take it slow over the hump and your ride isn't low like a Corvette, you'll manage; it helps to have a spotter to watch for traffic. To hikers: ignore the weather forecasts, and start early; rain seemed to happen daily in the park most afternoons especially later; 1 day an am forecast of 0 percent rain chance turned into 4-6 hours of afternoon rain; I lucked out for the awesome Alum Cave hike. To photographers: aside from hikes, we found our best views at Newfound Gap plus or minus 2-3 miles on each side.

Very well maintained, very nice place, has it all

  • 5 of 5

It was a very nice place, the owners were very nice and cleared up all of the questions that we had before renting the property. We had no issues when we got there, the place was tidy and very well maintained. Also its near the top so there is a really nice view from the decks of the house. Great scenery to look at when sitting in the hot tub.
