Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much for sharing this peaceful and sophisticated retreat with others. We were thrilled that being off-season we were able to rent for just a long weekend. But now as we leave, we wish we could stay another week. Maybe next year! I feel so comfortable here I almost forgot having to return to my home! Walking along the Douglas lake front road each morning is better than a meditation session on a hot stone massage!

Reviewer Comments:

From first sight, we were pretty sure this would be a nice place to spend the next 5 days because there was a beautiful front yard patio with bbq, table and gorgeous red bud in bloom. We pulled our car up to the storage shed and saw the backyard fire pit and lovely landscaping. The covered front porch was the alternative if there was rain! Inside we found a large dining table for 8 with plenty of out-of-the-way floor space for our coolers and shoes. And a well stocked kitchen (several sets of beautiful serviceware and dinnerware) and a coffee station with a cupboard dedicated to coffee mugs. The great room was well designed to comfortably accommodate our group and the two small children. The weather turned chilly so we enjoyed the extra warmth of the fireplace. The bedrooms and bathrooms are as beautiful as they were comfortable, with plenty of towels and outlets for recharging phones and computers or hairdryers.

Owner's Response: Sounds like a great time from an experienced vacation renter. This home checks off all the boxes for a "home away from home" experience.

Peaceful and so relaxing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We truly loved our time at this beautiful and well-maintained house. The open floor-plan in the kitchen/living room/dining room is so nice for spending time with family and the bedrooms are spacious with comfy beds and beautiful finishes! The walk to the beach takes less than 10 minutes and the natural surroundings are so lovely. We felt so relaxed and comfortable the minute we walked in the front door and were so happy that the weather allowed for a night out by the fire. We will definitely be back!!!

Cozy and relaxing

Great place with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The walk to the beach is breathtaking as well as the beach itself. The cottage is cozy, spacious and tastefully decorated. Great Stay!! I would recommend this hands down to anyone wanting to visit this part of Michigan.

Disappointed to say the least

  • 3 of 5

My family chose this property to have one last get together for the end of summer, and to celebrate birthdays, recent moves, etc. We loved the house itself, but we were disappointed by the overgrown lot right next to it, full of weeds, bugs and allergens. Also, the foliage around the front of the house and around the patio hadn't been trimmed all summer and it was completely overgrown and unkempt, harboring more mosquitoes. We did enjoy the backyard very much and had campfires every night. Our main disappointment was the weedy lot next to the house and the unkempt foliage - especially compared to every other house in the area, which was clean looking and manicured. We felt that the price was way too high for this house - we could have stayed in a much higher quality location for less. We will never stay at this house again at this price and we hope you do something about the weedy, overgrown lot and bushes for future guests. We would not recommend the house at this price or with the front yard that faces the overgrown lot.

Owner's Response: We named this home Meadow’s Edge because it actually sits on the edge of a meadow. Tall ornamental grasses are planted around the front of the house and patio to provide natural elements of privacy, as opposed to an imposing fence. The grasses do become large toward the end of the summer. The empty lot as described by this guest is actually the meadow that surrounds the edge of the property, and is owned by the Town of Douglas as it is an uninstalled street. Much of this setting can be seen in the exterior photos. Mosquitoes and bugs can be part of this setting and we could never guarantee zero bugs outside, but we would be happy to add some plants as natural deterrents for next summer. Our natural setting also provides many opportunities to see wildlife such as deer and wild turkey as they meander through the meadows. We have added some new pictures to show our front patio setting.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful property! Close to Lake Michigan, and Douglas Beach.

Very well maintained, and they had everything that we needed. We were up during the Fall, and the colors were breathtaking, we even had some warmer days and were able to walk along the beach. We would definitely rent again. :) Wonderful fire pit in the backyard too. :) Thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs, we had a wonderful time. :)

Great stay!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at the property. We were in the area for a wedding, so we didn't spend much time at the house but it was a perfect amount of space and all of the accommodations were great. I just wish we could have spent more time there!
