Custom built in 2010, the Bowen Island Boutique Beach House is a luxurious 3 bedroom, contemporary designer house set on 1.5 acres of waterfront property with panoramic views of the Salish Sea and Vancouver Island's snow-capped mountains.
The Bowen Island Boutique Beach House is modernism at its best. Designed by renowned Canadian architecture firm, superkül inc, and internationally recognized landscape architect, Janet Rosenberg, it is contemporary and minimalist, a house of glass where outdoor splendor and indoor simplicity combine. It is ideal for those looking to connect with nature without forfeiting everyday comforts. In winter, while overlooking the blue waters, snuggle up in the bedroom or relax in the living room by an ultra-modern, two-sided wood burning fireplace. In summer, soak up the rays at our private beach, secluded from neighboring views. The house has heated stone floors, 14-foot ceilings, and is fully equipped with surround sound audio, 3D television, cable, DVD, Internet and Wi-Fi as well as top of the line appliances. The home sleeps six people comfortably in three queen-size beds. European rain shower heads in the 2 bathrooms and an outdoor hot tub complete the experience.
Nine-foot high lift-and-slide wood doors open the interior to a deck perched high in the Douglas Fir canopy. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to engage with the magnificent physical setting. You'll love falling asleep to the sound of ocean waves. A star-filled horizon is revealed through spectacular glass walls in every room.

The realization of Bowen Island Boutique Beach House has been a labour of love. Its owners, internationally renowned landscape architect Janet Rosenberg and her partner Dr. Abe Chaiton, dedicated themselves to creating one of the most unique homes on the island, with no detail overlooked and every stunning view captured.
Living on Bowen Island was Abe’s and Janet’s long time aspiration. In 1992, Abe fell in love with British Columbia having spent extended time in the province serving as a locum for resident doctors. Together, sailing up and down the coast to Desolation Sound, Abe and Janet were mesmerized by the west coast landscape and enlightened by the people they met on their adventures. Yet Bowen Island stood apart in their fond memories as an unspoiled Canadian gem where they could appreciate life’s simple treasures. And so, each year for ten years, they moored their sailboat, Luba, in Snug Cove, claiming temporary residence on the island, but constantly scouting for just the right spot where they could one day build their dream home.
In 2009, they finally found such a place, a rare property on the waterfront with its own private beach and secluded setting, perfectly embodying the spirit of Bowen Island that they fell in love with. Drawing on Janet’s expertise, they embarked on a two-year design-and-build project, putting together a team of designers who would help them create a home like no other. This home, now completed and sitting proudly perched above the Salish Sea, is a simple architectural glass box that celebrates Janet’s and Abe’s eclectic taste, modern sensibility, and respect for art. From local furniture manufacturers, east coast folk artists, and Inuit print makers to contemporary sculptors and photographers, there’s a touch of Canadian diversity in every room.

We fell in love with the west coast, the people, and their quality of life. The constant change of sound, scenery, and light on this property are captivating.
You can do so much and so little and be completely satisfied. The Island offers many activities but it's the still moments that are most memorable, when we are just looking out at the water and the green around us. We enjoy going to visit the quaint restaurants, craft shops, and markets in the town where everything tastes and smells better. We also enjoy kayaking and sailing, while having easy access to go to the city for the day.

Our stay at the Bowen Island boutique beach house was nothing short of spectacular. The views from every single room are breathtaking. The massive floor to ceiling windows and sliding glass doors erased all boundaries between the house and nature. The hot tub is in the perfect spot giving you a full 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean below and beautiful scenery. Bowen Island has a natural beauty that kept us entertained through hiking and nature trails. We will definitely be back.
Thank you Janet and Abe for sharing your exquisite sanctuary with us! The setting and the design of this beautiful home is absolutely breathtaking! We arrived just in time to unfold into the comfy lounge chairs on the deck and watch the setting sun. It was to be the beginning of one of the most relaxing and restorative weeks we have enjoyed in a long while. Coffee on the deck at sunrise, reading, soaking in the hot tub with the gorgeous view...it just kept getting better. We took great delight in preparing meals in the fully equipped and thoughtfully organized kitchen. The linens, towels and duvets were thick and cozy and the extensive collection of carefully selected amenities made our stay so completely enjoyable. We spent many hours gazing at the abundant wildlife, the changing winds, the setting sun and the stars. We are grateful for having enjoyed this amazing time together with family in this little piece of paradise and look very much forward to our return!
We had a wonderful 4 nights at this beautiful, peaceful, comfortable and quiet home on Bowen Island. Chanelle met us when we got there and showed us the house. We'd stopped at a grocery store on the mainland, but the Ruddy Potatoe had a great selection of fresh foods. We thought we'd go back and forth to Vancouver but once we arrived we never felt the need to leave the island. Hiking, eating at the local restaurants, and relaxing at home was the vacation we were looking for. We lucked out and had great weather. We spent a lot of time sitting on the deck, keeping an eye on the family of river otters and seals in the cove. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the bed was very comfortable. The hot tub at night was beyond perfect. No, we didn't want to leave!
Thank you Janet, Mary and Chanelle for all your help arranging our stay at this beautiful home. We had the privilege to stay for 8 nights and what an experience. janet you have a lovely home and you should be so proud.
We will miss our seal friends, our sea otter, our frequent visits from black tail deer and their offspring. We will also miss the Canadian Geese and the Egret but most of all we will miss Steve the bald headed eagle (as we christened him) and his troops. All this wildlife seen from the deck of the house.
So much beauty and wildlife. We visited most if not all of Bowen Island and we loved it all.
We made full use of the outdoor areas designed so beautifully, and the house was equipped with everything we needed. The binoculars came in very handy. All the beds were so comfortable and the glass walls of the master suite made us feel like we were at one with the outside.
We will never forget this place or the amazing sun sets.
However there is one major downside to staying in this house and that is.....leaving !!
Everything about this home exceeds expectations. It's easy to feel right at home and to relax immediately. Easily accessible; every detail has been considered. The deck has a breathtaking view of Georgia Straight and it's easy to idle the afternoon away watching fishing boats and cruise ships in the distance. Artisan Eats is highly recommended for catered dinners, with Chef Christof who will hand pick your ingredients same day on the island. We cannot wait to return!
I'm coming back! It was exquisite :)
Thank you for sharing your home Janet!
What a wonderful week we had on Bowen Island. The house itself, the owners, the area...everything was magnificent! We rented a sailboat and docked it out front which was a great way to get around and see the surrounding areas. We would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks again Janet, Abe and Chanelle for all your help, reccomendations and most of all, sharing your beautiful home with us!!
