'Blue Shutters' is a light, charming and airy cottage on the eastern shore of Green Lake which was completely renovated in the Fall of 2010. The cottage sleeps six: 1 Queen bed in one bedroom, 2 twin bunk beds in a 2nd bedroom, and two more guests can sleep on the new sofa bed in the living room that features an easy, auto-fill deluxe air mattress. All beds, mattresses and furniture are new in 2011. Bedding and bath towels are included.
Blue Shutters features a new kitchen with an electric stove, microwave oven, refrigerator and granite countertops and an open granite island, where guests can help the chef from two stools. Kitchen is fully stocked with appliances and equipment.
There are several places to enjoy your meals, besides inside Blue Shutters. The breezy, screened in sunroom features a bench and a dining table with seating for 6 that can be easily arranged to suit your needs for dining or a fun game of cards.
If you prefer to dine outside, just through the sliding glass door from the living room is a large bluestone patio with dining for 6. This patio provides a lovely shady place to enjoy the breeze and the views of the water.
For waterfront fun, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake from a second large bluestone patio on top of the boathouse. This is a great place to enjoy the sun and watch the kids play in the clear water. There is a gradual slope to the lake bottom in this section of Green Lake making it well suited for parents with small children. Kids love the sandy bottom and the waves!
In addition to the fully equipped kitchen, the cottage includes an outdoor gas grill.
There are several fans, an air conditioning unit and portable heating units for your comfort. The completely renovated bathroom features a new tiled shower, open shelves for towels and a small window.
Both bedrooms have closets with hanging storage, open shelving, night stands, ceiling fans and two windows.
The recent renovation has transformed this cottage into a quaint beauty. However Blue Shutters is a seasonal cottage and in the tradition of true lake cottages, the living space is a cozy 750 square feet.

Some of the best and strongest memories from my childhood revolve around the time I spent at Green Lake every summer. I am fortunate to now share summer fun with my own children on Green Lake.
Lynna Ritch purchased this cottage in 2009
Green Lake offers a peaceful environment on a beautiful lake with very little boat traffic. The water is pristine, and I understand there are plenty of fish. It is the perfect place to relax and create wonderful memories with family and friends.
This is a place to truly unplug and get away from things for a while. Blue Shutters does have a flatscreen TV, cable and wireless access if you can't cut the cord entirely.
Lovely cottage; three outdoor dining and lounging perches with just enough yard for playing bean bags. Watch kids splash off the pristine pier that extends over clean, clear shallow water of Green Lake with sandy bottom from lovely boat house roof, and comfy Adirondacks. Gourmet Kitchen has everything one could need to grill out or cook inside; bonus: tons of storage and perfectly organized items at an arms reach. Original jalousie windows are amazing for natural ventilation throughout cottage and living room is comfortable place to lounge inside and look at lake. Perfect post for two adults and two kids to relax between biking and kayaking excursions in the local area.
My wife and I stayed at Blue Shutters this year after we dropped off our two boys at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. While they had their two week camp, we were just a couple of miles away at our own private lake house on Green Lake!
Even though we had read the reviews beforehand, the cabin was still better equipped than we had anticipated, stocked with extra linens, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, kleenex, bath and beach towels, pots, pans, silverware, paper towels, dishes, laundry detergent, etc. We essentially just had to bring in whatever food we wanted to prepare in the well stocked kitchen and we were set to go! Having a newer washer and dryer in the house was great, because we didn't have to pack very many clothes for a two weeks stay. One bedroom has a queen size bed, and the other has two bunk beds which were good for the kids when they stayed a couple nights with us. Having a TV with cable / DVR / DVD player was very handy when we just wanted to relax in the house after dark.
The view from the boathouse was amazing, and we spent many nights just sitting on the boathouse drinking wine and watching the sunset over Green Lake. Lots of cute critters were spotted during our stay (chipmunks, squirrels, turtles, ducks - even some deer on a couple of occasions that live in the woods near the house!). Having air conditioning in the house was critical on a few warmer nights that we had, but in general we would open the windows and enjoy the breeze coming in off the lake. The lake is generally pretty quiet, with some activity from water skiers and knee boarders occasionally -- really just a relaxing place to be at all times. We had even done some some house hunting of our own on Green Lake while we were there, as we were so impressed with the area.
Neighbors are very friendly also, and it was handy having the owner's parents nearby in case we had any questions or issues with the house. They were genuinely concerned that we were having a good time at the house and that our needs were being met -- really a pleasant benefit that we appreciated. If we're back in Interlochen again next year, we will definitely look into renting Blue Shutters again if it's available!
Wonderful cottage to enjoy the Green Lake community. The deck above the boathouse is a great place on a summer's day. Just enough shade to reduce the heat of the sun, if needed. We ate outside most every meal, and the kitchen is complete with the items you'll want. Very nice washer and dryer. Bedrooms are smallish - but that didn't bother us as we only saw those at night ! Very comfortable bed for the parents and the younger children would enjoy the bunk beds. Can sleep 6 by using the sofa bed (has air mattress inside).
Would absolutely rent again !!
My wife and I stayed here last year. I had submitted a review at that time but that got lost during my submission. We were happy with the accommodations. The deck over the boathouse was our favorite place to spend time on the property. We ate some meals there, enjoyed a few happy hours" after active days. The lake is mostly quiet and is a lovely spot to just relax. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. I would love to stay here again and would recommend this cottage and the surrounding area. There is plenty to do in this beautiful area of Michigan. We had kayaks and bicycles and had plenty of opportunities to use them often. The owner was helpful and easy to deal with. Her Father amicably stopped by briefly once and was very helpful with information. This is a comfortable place to be and stay in all respects.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Blue Shutters! The moment we walked in we felt so comfortable. The interior is tastefully decorated in an inviting manner. Everything was clean. The kitchen had all we needed. The beds were comfortable. We loved being in the woods and overlooking Green Lake. We had an extremely relaxing time and would love to return!
Our family of 4 had a wonderful time at Blue Shutters. We love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped and recently renovated. Our kids (5 and 8 yrs old) loved fishing off the dock and swimming in the lake. We had a 4th of July BBQ with some family and friends and had plenty of seating for everyone. Great space on the boat house roof for relaxing, watching the kids swim and enjoying sunsets. Super clean and nicely decorated. Excellent pull out sofa with air mattress for when Grandpa spent the night! Owners went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. We will absolutely visit Blue Shutters again when we travel to Michigan!
